Server down - What will happen to the SERP?
-
Hi everybody, we have a lot of websites (about 100) on one Server in Italy. This Server crashed 5 days ago and now it should go online (I hope!).
What will happen to the SERP? What shall I do to recover the rank of every key? New links, new content, just wait...what?

Sorry to hear that the server was down for five days. That's not a lot of fun to deal with.
Here's a great link to an interview by Matt Cutts about Website downtime and how it affects Google rankings:
Basically, if the server is down for a day, you're fine. More downtime than that, though, and Google sees this as a signal that the user experience might not be amazing.
My recommendations to prevent this from happening again:
1. Back up each site to at least two locations. In the case that a server like this goes down, you can migrate the sites to a different host quickly. Make sure you have the database + the site contents backed up. I recommend backing up locally to a hard drive, as well as another cloud-based site, too. For a critical site, it may be worth having a "hot" backup site that can be pushed live via DNS quickly and easily. For a site with 100+ sites on it, make sure you have a list of all of the sites on the server, and order them in importance of what is most critical to work on first.
2. Make sure that the DNS doesn't route through the server with 100+ sites on it. Use the DNS controls at your domain name registrar, instead. That way you can quickly re-route the DNS to go to a new hosting platform, and not have to wait for the server to come back up.
3. Consider moving to a different hosting platform that has more uptime / reliability. 100+ sites on a server is a lot of eggs in a basket. (Note: I've done something similar in the past, and it's not worth it to have all of those sites sitting together on a shared server. Better to break them up and put them on several different servers if possible.)
Finally, once the site is back up, I'd try to bolster the importance of the site with additional relevant content, inbound links, social media, etc. I might suggest a permission-based email campaign to past customers to bring them back, and let them know about the site outage.
Hope this helps...

Yup, just wait. However, I would consider switching to a better server, a 5 day downtime is a long downtime! Look for more reliable solution.

HELP: What happened to my rankings? No warning from google how to know if i was penalised?
Hi Guys I have just completely a site re-design, I have 3 top level domains. I have no idea whats causing the drop in ranking. I have changed the title tags and meta tags to improve them and make them better, as the last ones weren't really doing us justice. But I see now it has actually dropped our main keyword. I read somewhere that i had to completed **site search **to check and I don't see our home page showing. I was ranking for the keyword: "online psychics" for over 4months at #6 and now is not showing anywhere in the top 50 keywords. I'm also affraid I can not find our other keyword "online psychic readings" which we were ranked #11 seems to have dropped to #44 I have no idea why this would be the case. Our new home page shows a better user experience and also added more content, unqiue content at that - our last design was content thin so I have no idea why we have dropped so much in rankings. The site is also new about 6months new. I have checked WMT and have not received any warnings of any penalties as such, unless it is still coming? Does anyone have any suggestions here? Cheers

Will implementing 301's on an existing domain impact massively on rankings?
Hi Guys,I have a new SEO client who only has the non-www domain setup for GWT and I am wondering if implementing a 301 for www will have a massive negative impact on rankings. I know a percentage of link juice and PageRank will be affected. So my question is: If I implement the 301 should I brace myself for a fall in rankings. Should I use a 301 instead to maintain link juice and PageRank? Is it good practice to forward to www? Or could I leave the non www in place and have the www redirect to it to maintain the data? Dave

Solved PayDay hack - but SERPs show URLs - what should I do?
We had the PayDay hack - and solved it completely. The problem is - the SERPs have over 3,000 URLs pointing to 404 on our website all of which have urls that are like this: <cite>www.onssi.com/2012/2/post1639/payday-loan-companies-us</cite> What should I do? Should I disavow every one of the 3,000? No Follow?

Sudden Large Traffic and SERP Drop
Hi This site www.militaryplaques.com We have had steady traffic over a number of years with the site both on terms of impressions, click through rates, bounce rates, time on site and most importantly sales. The site has remained fairly static over the last 6 months with no significant changes to content or structuire. However, on July 11 our traffic and impressions crashed by over 90% and remain at this low level. We have never been hit by Panda but this looks like such a case?! Any insight or suggestions as to why the sudden "de-listing" may have happened? R/ John J Morgan

Whatever Happened to Text Link Ads?
I've searched the web for any objective articles, good or bad, written about Text Link Ads or Text Link Brokers written in the past two years. Other than the occasional discussion board question, SEOs are silent about these services. I know back in 2006, Rand looked upon them almost favorably. But what has happened since then? Is there any legitimate use for these services anymore (as a link builder)?

Will the links coming from an article in certain BLOG / NEWS SITE become a GOOD BackLink?
Such as, if i wrote a ymoz, and suddenly the articles is accepted, will the link to our site coming out of that Article Post increased our SEO Standing? Another example would be http://active.tutsplus.com , yesterday i have successfully pitched a tutorial idea, and they told me to write it so that they can published it , and they also promised that i will be able to put my site link (dofollow) ... But will these link be a Good BackLink that will increase our site's SEO Standing? The last one is exactly the same link , but this time coming from a News Site , such as http://teknologi.kompasiana.com/internet/2011/06/09/website-full-flash-dengan-inovasi-hebat-karya-indonesia/ , in this article (kompasiana is a very wellknown site news in Indonesia, in fact KOMPAS is the biggest newspaper firm in Indonesia) , our site is being featured , there is a link coming out of that article (DOFOLLOW), but will that link make our site much more SEO Friendly? Again please enlighten me 🙂

What happened with Hayneedle's rankings?
Hayneedle is an e-commerce company that operates 200 niche sites selling indoor and outdoor home products. They were ranking at the top of the first page for most terms related to their sites (fire pits, fountains, benches, etc.), but all of a sudden at the end of April they lost their rankings, getting dropped to page 4 or lower for tons of their sites (barstools.com, patiofurnitureusa.com, adirondackchairs.com, benches.com, etc.). Does anybody know what caused this? Other than one thread on an SEO forum, we haven't been able to find any discussion about it online. It seems like cross-linking between the sites could have been a problem here, but we'd love to hear thoughts from the experts here on this. Our company is using the same business model of one brand with niche sites and we want to avoid anything like this happening to us.
