Google won't index my site?
-
Hi, I've just signed up and am new to SEO. I placed my site live around mid December 2013. Initially I got 2 pages indexed but now not even they show up for site:www.traditional-cleaning.co.uk. According the Moz analytics I have 3 pages with duplicate content which are:
http://traditional-cleaning.co.uk/http://traditional-cleaning.co.uk/index.htmhttp://traditional-cleaning.co.ukProblem is I have no idea how to fix this, don't know whether Google isn't indexing my site because of this and generally am a bit stuck! Can anyone have a quick look at my site and give me a push in the right direction?
-
Hi thanks for getting back. Yes got it sorted though you're right about even the smallest error causing major issues - left a [ character in the file which brought everything to its knees...one other small issue is that the Moz analytics tool is saying that I have duplicate content on 3 pages, but they're all the same page? See attached. any ideas how to solver this?

Are you still having issues with this? The .htaccess file is quite powerful and can easily bring down a site with even the smallest mistake. Let me know if you are still having problems and I will try my best to help you out today.

Err, right this is turning into a bit of a disaster. I told Google that non-www was preferred since that was what seemed to be indexed. I then went to the htaccess file and copied in the code exactly as specified, but now it won't load? I went back and deleted it but there's still a problem, made worse by the fact I've told google to specifically look for a page that doesn;t work. Any help much appreciated!

Hi, would simply attaching this to my htaccess file inside Godaddydo sort things out (I have specified non-www in webmaster tools also):
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^traditional-cleaning.co.uk$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://traditional-cleaning.co.uk/$1 [R=301,L]Thanks

Hi Nick, yes its Godaddy

You can definitely youtube some advice. Is your hosting provided by a big name provider or do you manage your own server?

Hi thanks, that's really helpful. I'll give those suggestions a bash and let you know if I run into any issues. due to the fact that I only submitted this about a month ago and have zero links, I guess it's optimistic to assume I'll get any traction any time soon?
-
Thanks Nick, yes I have submitted an XML map through webmaster tools. I assume I'll be able to youtube some examples on how you do the htaccess thing?

Hi Edward,
The first thing I would do is sign up for google webmaster tools if you haven't already. The next step is to submit a site-map to google tools to help get your content indexed.
Also it appears that your content is indexed, try searching for "www.traditional-cleaning.co.uk" or "traditional-cleaning.co.uk", you'll see your content is being displayed by google. The site looks fantastic by the way!
The next step on your SEO adventure is going to be picking www.traditional-cleaning.co.uk OR traditional-cleaning.co.uk. Depending on your hosting setup you can have www redirected via .htaccess or change www to a cname record in your dns to point to the non-www version. The opposite is also an option if you'd like to keep the www but you don't want to use both interchangeably because it will created duplicate content.
That should give you some good things to get started on. Let me know if you have any trouble.
Thanks,
-Nick

Hi there!
I just searched Google for site:http://traditional-cleaning.co.uk and I see 26 pages indexed, so it is good news that your site is being indexed! Google considers the www version and the non-www version of the URLs to be different sites, so it's best to pick one and stick with it. You can do this by 301 redirecting all of your URLs that start with "www" to the root. I usually recommend using an .htaccess file for this as long as your server is compatible. Here is some more information - http://301redirects.net/non-www-to-www-301-redirect-urls.php
You will also want to redirect the index.htm file to the root URL. Here is how you can do this (with .htaccess) -
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /redirect html pages to the root domain
RewriteRule ^index.html$ / [NC,R,L]
These two steps should resolve your issues with both Google and Moz. I also highly recommend using Google Webmaster Tools and designating your preferred URL just to be safe. Let me know if you need any other help!

Disconnect MOZ Local and Google My Business
I've had problems with one of our eight branch locations when I connected GMB to Moz Local about a year ago. The location was suspended for being a duplicate. I would like to sever the connection so I could keep Moz Local live but at least temporarily delete the suspended Google My Business. Also, if you might have any guides or tutorials on performing this task it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Google My Business Issue
I have seen an issue with GMB that Google Support say is not an issue. I work for an agency and we manage about 50-60 GMB accounts for our clients. Most of our clients are flooring retailers and under our MCC account we also have our agencies listing. When I was searching for my client on Google using their brand name for example Walmart, I noticed my agency listing shows even though my client is over 1000 miles away. I have used multiple browsers in incognito and multiple devices and still see this so I know its not a personalized result. We also link to this client from our website which is the only thing connecting the dots between my agency and the client. https://imgur.com/UEqNAyA - screenshot (hiding phone numbers & business names for obvious reasons) showing 2 locations over 1000 miles apart. My first attempt at contacting Google I was informed of ways to get my listing higher which I quickly told them that isn't my issue. I also asked to speak to a SME (subject matter expert) and was told all of them were on lunch, asked for a supervisor and was told they were too on lunch. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea why it would show two different companies over 1000 miles apart when searching for a companies name? Did I stumble a way for SEO's to cheat the local map pack?

What's the best way to identify duplicate listings?
I'm doing manual duplicate research for an account and wanted to know if anyone had a resource to share on how to find duplicate listings for GMB and other citations. https://searchengineland.com/definitive-guide-duplicate-research-local-seo-238719 Ive been working off of this article from Joy Hawkins, but she mentions using Map Maker to search a phone number, but Google has since shut Map Maker down. Maps doesn't seem to work the same way, as I've searched a phone number which I know has duplicate listings and they don't come up. Any tips on a better tool or process?

Duplicate central index listing
Hello Moz community I have a duplicate listing in Central Index (GB) and all communication channels seem unresponsive. I have emailed support and general sales. I even tried contacting them on their facebook account. I am stumped as to how I can get this duplicate listing removed as I have no control over it and the support is non-existent. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

How does Google Local Insights report impressions for multiple mappack listings (same company) showing up for one query?
I had a client ask me a difficult question about impression reporting via Google Local Insights. Lets say a client is a popular ice cream chain and somebody does a local brand search for "San Francisco Exotic Tasty Ice" and three locations for the same company all show up in the Google Local Pack. Does each one of these locations receive their own impression via Google Local Insights? Or does Google just count this as one impression for one location altogether? Logically speaking I would think that each location would get its own impression in the insights report. However I'm wondering if there is anything to negate that. Any feedback is appreciated.

Local Help! Google+ Accounts for New Brand & Service Sites
Hi Mozzers! I have a lot of knowledge in local search, G+ page setup/optimization, etc, etc... However, I'm about to begin a business based around "home services". The brand will be ABC Home Services as the umbrella. Then under it will be the individual services like "ABC Carpet Cleaning" "ABC Roofing", etc... Each service will have it's own website for optimization purposes and local search authority building as well as the services will be developed over the course of a couple years ie: carpet cleaning would go up 1st, then the next service and so on... I have purchased all of the domains I want for the services to focus on. What do you recommend I do in terms of setting up Gmail accounts/G+ accounts? Individual service related Gmail accounts and have a main "ABC Home Services" Google account and then add in the service G+ pages over time? I'm open to any questions, but trying to make this the most efficient for me and my team and also the best if can be for local optimization goals and criteria. Thank you! - Patrick

Structured Data in Google Webmaster Tools
Have noticed a significant drop in structured data items and pages on GWT in the last one week. We have not made any changes and can still see that we have the rich snippet implementation in place across our site. Has anyone else noticed this drop? What could be possible reasons for the same? On 8th July we had 646,801 items showing up on Structured Data, which dropped to 227,529 on 11th July and 66,161 on 14th July 2014!! TIA Asif

Google automatically generating and verifying duplicate business pages?
Was on the phone with Google Support about duplicate, verified pages showing up and they said they're doing a "cleanse" in which an automated system is reviewing existing listings and making decisions as to how those look, which often results in a new page that Google then automatically verifies. Their Support phone system has been bogged down with people calling in, but I'm not seeing anything when I search about this issue. Is anyone else experiencing this?
