How to gain links to this site

How would you suggest I gain backlinks for bobweikel.com in light of all present and future Google updates?

I'd like input from other experienced inbound marketers on Ramonk's suggestion.
Basically, since I have 15 or so backlinks, I could find two quality niche directories and get one dofollow link from both of them. I wouldn't feel comfortable with more than two.
But those aren't editorial at all, so I have a lot of hesitancy about that.
Same with a couple of linking root domains from niche forums.
Suggestions on if these links would be helpful at all?

There is too much emphasis today on dofollow links. Nofollow or dofollow links each carry weight and importance in the long term strength of a website. A site with too many dofollow links and not a healthy balance of both would seem suspicious.
Powerful SEO for long term strategy is not one focused on link building alone, there is a lot more to it. I think there is a really good blog post you should read from Matthew Woodward where he explains it pretty well. Link is below:

Overall long term strategy requires a healthy combination of many practices. Niche relevant directories are still powerful if not abused and the directory you are posting to is credible. Guest posting is definitely not dead if its relevant and provides useful content to users. Hope this help and thanks for the kind response.

I see, the links would have to be nofollow.
So it helps with traffic and branding but wouldn't really strengthen my site.
How do I strengthen my site in a way that will still be credible 10 years from now? (I'm asking everyone, not just you Keri)
The only thing I can think of is stellar targeted content, the content would have to be out of this world in my niche to work, but I'm just getting started - It almost seems like I would have to hire someone to write for me.

Matt updated his post to clarify that Guest Blogging for SEO purposes / links is what he has an issue with, not the concept of guest blogging as a whole.
Trust me, it hasn't slowed down the number of guest post submissions that YouMoz is getting!

Thank you for your response and thoughtful private message offering advice. I like some of your advice a lot, but I honestly have to question if some of your methods are up to date because:
1. I believe niche directories are not good anymore. They sure are not editorial. I'd like advice from others on this.
2. You said in your private message that guest blogging is good. Matt Cutts has announced that guest blogging is dead.
So I'm unsure. I'll still give you a "Good Answer" click when this question is over, but I'd like to hear from others. If I misunderstood you or are misinformed, then I apologize. I'm just trying to do the right thing.

Oh I just saw why you made that comment, I had keywords in my anchor text. I didn't even think about that since it was a nofollow. I changed it just in case.

I figured that Keri, they're also not related content. I hope it didn't look like I was trying to gain links. Sorry if it looked that way.
The reason for this question, just so you know, is that in the past most advice I got is to do guest posting. But guest posting is dead so the only thing I can think of is to write good content and hope for links. But I don't know that I'm good enough to do that since I'm an authority but there are a lot of good people in my field
So I'm looking for advice on white hat link building.

Links from good quality websites that are related to your own website are always the best ones. Try to get more links from within the content of the page and not from the comments section. Comments section is not all bad, but the content part is better and the links will most likely have keywords in the anchor tag.

How do I know for sure if my site has been slapped?
I'm new to this SEO business - and I focus on inbound marketing. My client's site is www.SubconsciousMind.com. Just a few weeks ago it was showing in the top search results for several major keywords. Now, it has disappeared all together and there are competitors showing that have very little SEO (metatarsi not set up properly, etc.). So, I know there has to be an opportunity. Some obvious things:

I asked her if she got anything from Google about "being slapped". She doesn't even receive the emails to her site because she trusted someone else to set it all up. Should I rebuild from scratch? Potential spam issue - back links
Hi - we have a client whom we work with for SEO. During a review we noticed in Webmaster Tools, there was an IP address with over 30,000 links to our clients site. The IP address is 92.60.0.123. From looking up the IP address details, it looks like it is based in Europe - but we are unable to establish what it is, where the links are and who created it. We are concerned it could be a potential spammer trying to cause an issue with the SEO campaign. Is there any way of finding out any more details apart from the basic information about the location of the IP address? Also - if we submit a disavow via webmaster tools, we are unsure what issue it will have on the clients site if we do not know what it is and the type of links it is creating. Any ideas? Hiding content or links in responsive design
Hi, I found a lot of information about responsive design and SEO, mostly theories no real experiment and I'd like to find a clear answer if someone tested that. Google says:

People buying links to their profiles on my site
As we have a major Penguin update looming in the background, I am looking for expert advice on how to deal with professionals buying into link programs whether they are doing it deliberately or not. Our site provides detailed profile information on hundreds of 1000's of professionals and some professionals apparently believed that buying into link program will lift their profile in the SERPS. About 10 professionals have paid shady link building companies to buy links to their profiles on our site. The biggest offender bought over 1,500 links to his profile. Aside from adding the known toxic links to our disavow file, what else can we do to avoid any link penalties? I can think of three distinct options and would love to hear feedback especially based on actual experience. Option 1. 404 the existing profile - "http://www.anysite.com/jones_smith" and create a new URL "http://www.anysite.com/jones_smith_1". Option 2. Keep the existing URL and fully rely on the disavow file. Contact the professionals and kindly ask them to stop buying links and to contact their link building companies to remove the links. Any other ideas?

Closing down site and redirecting its traffic to another
OK - so we currently own two websites that are in the same industry. Site A is our main site which hosts real estate listings and rentals in Canada and the US. Site B hosts rentals in Canada only. We are shutting down site B to concentrate solely on Site A, and will be looking to redirect all traffic from Site B to Site A, ie. user lands on Toronto Rentals page on Site B, we're looking to forward them off to Toronto Rentals page on Site A, and so on. Site A has all the same locations and property types as Site B. On to the question: We are trying to figure out the best method of doing this that will appease both users and the Google machine. Here's what we've come up with (2 options): When user hits Site B via Google/bookmark/whatever, do we: 1. Automatically/instantly (301) redirect them to the applicable page on Site A? 2. Present them with a splash page of sorts ("This page has been moved to Site A. Please click the following link <insert anchor="" text="" rich="" url="" here="">to visit the new page.").</insert> We're worried that option #1 might confuse some users and are not sure how crawlers might react to thousands of instant redirects like that. Option #2 would be most beneficial to the end-user (we're thinking) as they're being notified, on page, of what's going on. Crawlers would still be able to follow the URL that is presented within the splash write-up. Thoughts? We've never done this before. It's basically like one site acquiring another site; however, in this case, we already owned both sites. We just don't have time to take care of Site B any longer due to the massive growth of Site A. Clear out Spammy Links
I was looking at my Open Site Explorer, and I noticed that now we have link anchor text in terrible words (porn videos, free streaming porn movies, big black c*ck) I believe this is an ex employee who we caught doing black hat seo and now they are retaliating. Has anyone had this happen to them? I need to know how to remove these links and make it stop. We have had a slight decline in our ranking as well, and wasn't sure if it could be the result of all this spamming. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Feedback on link building idea
We came up with this idea at work for a client but before I initiate it I was wanting to get feedback on if this would be considered whitehat and alright to use. It is for an ecommerce site. On the order confirmation and thank you page (not email cause they are on some old system that does not send out emails) we are wanting to put a thank you for your order message and continue with a statement about how they can save money on future purchases with a link that takes them to a page with info on how to do so. That new page will have info about linking to the site from a blog or website. And will say if you link back to us and send us an email with that link as proof we will give you a promo code for your next purchase. Is this alright?
