Will SEO Moz index our keywords if the site is ALL https?
-
We have a site coming into beta next week. Playing around with SEO Moz, I had trouble getting the keywords to rank at all. Was this because the site is entirely https?
If yes, what else can SEO Moz NOT do if the site is all https?
Thanks!

Is this site live yet? Can SEOMoz access it? That might be a problem. Also, if you want to see the top results for the keyword and the competitive nature of the SERP, I highly recommend the keyword difficulty tool - it rocks! http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/keyword-difficulty

Hi Mark,
I tried using the SeoMoz Rank Tracking tool to see what level we are at naturally for a keyword. I wasn't expecting a good result... Unfortunately there was NO result. The Keyword Tracking tool said it was unable to produce a result.
I'm not at all sure, but maybe this is because the site is https?

I'm a bit confused what you mean here by indexing your keywords- to track rankings for your new site, you configure a campaign and then tell the tool which keywords you want to track. The tool will then track in the search engines you choose your rankings for the keyword. If your site is https, this shouldn't make a difference. It will matter if you're ranking in the search engines for https - but if your site is ranking in the search engines, this shouldn't impact your seomoz rank tracking.
For Open Site Explorer, they will track the links and anchor text pointing to your site. If the target page is https instead of http, this also shouldn't make a difference.
In short, others will correct me if i'm wrong, but seomoz should work if your site is https.

Our clients Magento 2 site has lots of obsolete categories. Advice on SEO best practice for setting server level redirects so I can delete them?
Our client's Magento website has been running for at least a decade, so has a lot of old legacy categories for Brands they no longer carry. We're looking to trim down the amount of unnecessary URL Redirects in Magento, so my question is: Is there a way that is SEO efficient to setup permanent redirects at a server level (nginx) that Google will crawl to allow us at some point to delete the categories and Magento URL Redirects? If this is a good practice can you at some point then delete the server redirects as google has marked them as permanent?

Client wants to repackage in-depth content as PowerPoint files and embed on site. SEO implications?
Hi, I've a client who is planning to build out "courses" for their site. Their ultimate goal is to have videos (which will have transcriptions) but since the videos are not yet ready they want to launch with the content in PowerPoint format instead. Thing is, the pages they have now are really good content/in-depth. In short it seems videos are Phase 2, so their Phase 1 preference is to take all their courses content and put them in PowerPoint slides and add them to their web site. While I understand standalone files like PDFs and PPTs can be indexable, my recollection is that embedded slides are not (like SlideShare). Is that correct? My worry is that by taking this content and reformatting it into PowerPoints will hurt their site instead of helping. Any insight is appreciated!

Regional sites built on different platforms - will this solution for international targeting work?
We are working with our dev team on a few upcoming user stories to improve store.hp.com. We came across a question which isn’t clear in the international targeting documentation. Within http://store.hp.com, we have a number of regional stores, but those are often built on separate platforms. Therefore a story developed on the US infrastructure doesn’t carry over to Canada and so forth. The Canada Store is managed by a different team, so that story needs to get scoped, prioritized, etc. independently. In regards to helping Google understand page equivalence, will Google accept the page relationship if we include hreflang tags exclusively in the sitemap for the US site and exclusively as page-level markup for Canada site? For example: http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore (hreflang notation at page-level): http://store.hp.com/us/en" /> http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore" /> http://store.hp.com/us/en" /> http://store.hp.com/us/en (hreflang notation within sitemap file): <loc>http://store.hp.com/us/en</loc> rel="alternate" hreflang="en-ca" href=" http://store.hp.com/CanadaStore" /> rel="alternate" hreflang="en-us" href="http://store.hp.com/us/en" /> Appreciate the help anyone can give! My Homepage Won't Load if Javascript is Disabled. Is this an SEO/Indexation issue?
Hi everyone, I'm working with a client who recently had their site redesigned. I'm just going through to do an initial audit to make sure everything looks good. Part of my initial indexation audit goes through questions about how the site functions when you disable, javascript, cookies, and/or css. I use the Web Developer extension for Chrome to do this. I know, more recently, people have said that content loaded by Javascript will be indexed. I just want to make sure it's not hurting my clients SEO. http://americasinstantsigns.com/ Is it as simple as looking at Google's Cached URL? The URL is definitely being indexed and when looking at the text-only version everything appears to be in order. This may be an outdated question, but I just want to be sure! Thank you so much!

Keyword targeting & differentiation between similar keywords
I'm having trouble wrapping my head around keyword targeting when two keywords are very similar. Here's my dilemma, lets just I sell ACE brand Widgets I'm doing well with “ACE Widgets” queries but not “ACE” How do I fix this since “ACE” is already all throughout the results page & supposedly anchor text is playing a less and less significant role in link relevancy so just getting links with “ACE” as the anchor text wouldn't really help (I wouldn't think) Just a little confused. Thanks
