OSE - How to determine good links to build on...?
-
Hey Guys,
Weather it be OSE, ahrefs, etc. How do you determine if the link is worth using to build a backlink on?
I know to look for a higher DA/PA and overall established links. I want very quality sites for external links (as we all do) but I also want to know what to look for and what to bypass when determining if I should build a backlink on the domain.
These are a Few examples / questions i have sorry if they are basic: (the below are all specific examples)
1. If a site has an article and that article page is a DA 65 / PA 1 with Zero (0) established links to that article my backlink is on; would it be link building worthy? Should I leave a backlink, why? ex. lots of different blogspot.com blogs pointing back at my site..^^ Same domian, different blog any benefit?
2. If a site is a PR2 DA 30/ PA 32 with 14 root domains, 250 total links.... Would a link like this give me any benefit or should I skip links like this? Why?
3. What main factors do you focus on/look for and know when & when not leave a backlink to your site when using a tool like OSE, Ahrefs?
4. Should I even worry about a sites PR when linkbuilding since PR doesnt play that big of a role anymore opposed to high quality backlinks? Ive seen PR 7 sites outranked by PR1 site with 200 high quality backlinks to it
Thanks for any help and any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Hi there,
While looking at metrics like this is important, you're approaching modern link development in a slightly misguided, old-fashioned way. This is the way we used to link about link dev three or four years ago.
For one, there is little use finding an older article (anything published more than a few days or weeks ago) and trying to get a link on it. This was a very popular, effective tactic up until about 2010. However, figuring out if a link was included as an original citation or added after the fact is incredibly easy. Thus, it's easy to discount links-added-later, and you can be fairly sure that Google is suspicious of these links given how popular this link development tactic was pre-2010.
If a site has good Moz metics (DA, etc.) and no or very low toolbar PR, this can be an indication that Google finds something wrong with the site... but toolbar PR is a relatively outdated metric now, so take its figures fairly lightly. If you can potentially get a link from a site, look at all of these metrics and then look at both the backlink profile of the potential linking site and which other sites it links out to. Does it look like it sells links to unrelated, spammy websites / industries? Don't go for a link with them. Do they advertise a text-link service where anyone can buy a link on their site? Definitely stay away.
If you come across a less-popular site in your niche with original, quality content, don't turn a link down on that site because it has low metrics.
"2. If a site is a PR2 DA 30/ PA 32 with 14 root domains, 250 total links.... Would a link like this give me any benefit or should I skip links like this? Why?"
To answer this, you're going to need to look further than these metrics. Those numbers are good enough that if the site is otherwise a good match for yours, the link could be worthwhile.

Should we optimise our internal links?
Hi again, We recently had a technical search audit done by a specialist agency and they discovered a number of internal links that caused redirects to happen. The agency has recommended we update all of these links to link directly to the destination so we don't lose out on link equity. We'd just like to know if you think this would be a worthwhile use of our time. Our web team seem to think that returning a 301 to a crawler means that the crawler will stop indexing the original URL and instead index the redirected destination? Thanks all. Clair

Too Many External Links A Problem
Client is thinking of adding a directory to an eCommerce site which users would find useful. It would help users find other services and vendors that are specific to the niche of products this site is selling. My only concern is it would create a number of external links to other sites. Even though they're related, would this diminish our standing with Google search?

Link Building: Want to discuss interlinking content
Hi, On the 'Viper chill' blog (some may of heard of this blog) he talks about interlinking content in an attempt to build up link juice to get more from the content and pass more PR to the target website. Here is the link to the post, a few scrolls down and your see a diagram. http://www.viperchill.com/link-trio/ I have also attached the image to this post, so we can discuss in more detail by referencing to it. Now this guy knows what his talking about, lots of big players back him up, but does this method actually work better then having one link from each article pointing to the target website? If an article links to another article surely the PR flows into other links on the page as well as your own down grading the power of it? If the answer is yes, would this work for guest blogging? link-triage.png

My site links have gone from a mega site links to several small links under my SERP results in Google. Any ideas why?
A site I have currently had the mega site links on the SERP results. Recently they have updated the mega links to the smaller 4 inline links under my SERP result. Any idea what happened or how do I correct this?

Are URL shorteners building domain authority everytime someone uses a link from their service?
My understanding of domain authority is that the more links pointing to any page / resource on a domain, the greater the overall domain authority (and weight passed from outbound links on the domain) is. Because URL shorteners create links on their own domain that redirect to an off-domain page but link "to" an on-domain URL, are they gaining domain authority each time someone publishes a shortened link from their service? Or does Google penalize these sites specifically, or links that redirect in general? Or am I missing something else?
