URL Re-Mapping Question ?. Do I need to the theme of my business in my url struture even though GWT knows what my site is about
-
Hi All,
I have currently planning to do some url remapping on my Hire Website as alot of most important pages
are far to many levels deep from the root domain. This is also making my sitemap not tidy etc.
In GWT, Google knows that the theme is my website is Hire as it's the top word. Therefore do I still need to use the word hire in all my new url categories / structures or not ?
Examples
http://goo.gl/BFmvk2 I was thinking of remapping to www.xxxxxxx.xco.uk/tool-hire-birmingham
http://goo.gl/pC9Bdp I was thinking of remapping to www.xxxxxx.co.uk/cleaning-equipment
Notice in the later example , I do not have the word rent in the url.
Any advice is much appreciated
thanks

Hi Peter,
I do not think you need to include the word 'hire' in every URL. As you mentioned, Google likely has a good understanding of what your page/site is about based on the content.
From a site architecture perspective, I'd recommend focusing less on the keyword and more on the folders necessary to organize your site content in a logical way for both users and search engines. For example, you might have a URL sub-folder for certain geographic locations, e.g. www.example.co.uk/birmingham/example-job-listing
This structure will also help for future analysis if you want to compare performance across key categories of pages on your site.

Do we need both an .XML Sitemap and a .aspx sitemap?
Hi Mozers, We recently switched servers and it came to my attention that we have two sitemaps a XML version of the sitemap and a .aspx version of the sitemap. This came to light as the .aspx version of the sitemap is causing the site to come to a screeching halt as it has some complex code and lists over 80,000 products. My question is do we need both versions of the sitemap? My understanding is that the XML version is for Search Engine bots and the .aspx version is for customers. I can't imagine that anyone is using our .aspx version as it is basically a page with 80,000 links and it's buried away on the site, so we were hoping to kill off the .aspx version of the sitemap and keep the .xml version for Search Engine Bots. I wanted to check here first to make sure we did not any negative search engine implications. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks so much! Patrick

Shortened URL is breaking when URL is in Upper Case
Hi there, Currently I'm having some troubling mitigating an odd occurrence with some redirected shortened URLs being in upper case. Here is how they should be behaving - www.rhinosec.com/webapp -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/sample-report-webapp-pentest/
Web Design | | BCaudill
www.rhinosec.com/network -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/sample-report-network-pentest/
www.rhinosec.com/se -> https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/landing/social-engineering-example-report/ but when the /______ is capitalized - for example - WEBAPP, NETWORK, SE; WordPress either gives me a 404 or guesses the pages and lands on: NETWORK = https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/assessment-services/network-penetration-testing/
SE = https://rhinosecuritylabs.com/assessment-services/secure-code-review/
WEBAPP = 404 I was wondering if this discrepancy should be taken care of in the Htaccess file, Cloudflare, or WordPress redirect plug-in?0 -
What should I know about redirecting users based on cookies?
Hi Moz! My client wants to redirect users to a basic or professional version of their site based on cookies. What do we need to do/know to make sure implementation is SEO-friendly? What if a user has cookies turned off? Are there any other obstacles? Thanks for reading!

Without Keyword Info From Google - How do we re-do a site not knowing what to keep?
Bit of a riddle I am trying to figure out here... I have a client that receives some visits via organic searches (around 700). Most of which are to the homepage. The client isn't actively targeting any keywords yet (on purpose) and the homepage doesn't have much on it. I've been hired to do keyword research and re-develop the site but this is the first site I've done since google really put the hurt on keyword information. My worry is that without knowing what keywords people are using currently to search and find the site, I will be potentially deleting information that is bringing in traffic. Looking at the traffic and other keywords I can view I think the keywords are branded which makes it a bit easier but again, it is a bit worrisome, not so much for this client but for future work. Anyone have any ideas other than looking at webmaster tools and landing pages?

Google result showing old Meta Title / Description even though page view source shows new info.
Hey guys! I'm struggling with why Google is ignoring my Meta Title / Description. I made a pretty drastic change to both about a week ago and on the results it hasn't changed. I'm on first page with several keywords and I think this weird caching is hurting me on where I'm at on the page. Thoughts / Ideas?

What is wrong with our site?
Hello Seomoz friends. I've about to pull all my hair out and need to turn somewhere. Our site, www.sightmax.com has been around since 2004. We used to be ranked at the top of page two on google under the keyword "live chat". We are no on page 4, heading to page 5. Can anyone take a look at the site and see if anything jumps out at you? The only way we have been able to get on the first page, is the pay for google adwords (which we've been doing every month for 7 years). Again, the site www.sightmax.com and the keyword is "live chat". Any help or feedback would be appreciated SO MUCH! Thanks! Eric

Recommendation for a company to make a site more mobile friendly?
Hiya, We have a client who uses us for SEO, and a separate company for web development. They have a fairly large site on a bespoke CMS. They're happy with the site, but the user experience on mobile devices is not right. Can anybody recommend a company specializing in that area? Preferably a UK company but not essential. Thanks 🙂

Custom URL's with Bigcommerce Issue (Is it worth it?)
We're building out a store in Bigcommerce, who for all intensive purposes is perfect for SEO besides the fact that you can not change the URL's to be custom. My question is, does this kill the SEO value of bigcommerce, despite everything else being great? So for example the URL's for a category page would be something like this www.mysite.com/categories/keyword and the product URL's are pulled in by product name, so product URL's could be something like www.mysite.com/products/Product-Description-Long-223.html (notice the words will be capitalized and their is no way to remove the trailing .html) I could go with Interspire (the liscenced version of Bigcommerce) or Magento so I can custom edit this stuff. But then its a lot more work for my employee's on the buildout.
