Why MoZ Bar gives different PA and DA to my homepage? Surly they should have the same metrics?
-
Hi guys, is it normal that when looking at my homepage with the mozbar i get the same DA and PA? It seems that it should provide the same results.
Thankss
-
Yes, that is exactly it. And yes, your curiosity should never be completely satisfied...
-
Hi Linda,
Now this starts to make sense. Based on your assumption that the DA is calculated based on the entire site (i.e. all pages) and the PA is based on a single page it will make sense. i guess it is the difference of evaluating your "House" as a whole or just the "Front Door" when you stand in-front of it.
I think that has satisfy (for now...) my curiosity.

The root domain does not have the same data as the homepage.
The domain authority takes the entire website into account and the homepage page authority takes only one single page, the homepage, into account.
Look at Moz again as an example. The homepage has 342,922 links from 11,650 root domains. The root domain has 15,899,372 links from 46,201 root domains. So they are not the same.
I do not know the mysterious details of how the authorities are calculated, but they are taking different data into account and one is looking at a single page while the other an entire site so it is not at all surprising that they can be different.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the reply. What you are mentioning above is correct. i mean, this is what we are experiencing but feel it is not right, therefore wanted to understand why is that happening? and why the two metrics do not match? How can it be that the same page (i.e. homepage and root domain) give different metrics they have the exact same data.
and assuming there will be an argument that explain that strange behaviour, which of the two metrics should we take in consideration?
YG.

All pages on your domain have the same domain authority. Each page has its own page authority.
The page authority of the home page can be the same as the domain authority, but it does not have to be.
For example, the page authority of moz.com (homepage) is 92 (looking at the moz bar) and the domain authority is 93. For www.macys.com (homepage) the page authority is 90 and the domain authority is 87.

As I shall be as well mate. Thanks for the chat, if you can hit this with an update when you get an answer be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

i will be waiting in anticipation for one of the MoZ's to share some light on this.
Cheers.

You got me I have no idea why you would be getting different metric's I agree they should pull from the same scrape ? Although now you have me on a mission to find out why

Hi Ryan,
Yes, im talking about the MoZ Pro bar (PA, mR, DA). "Page authority" and "Domain Authority" are both MoZ metrics, and whilst on the root of my site (i.e. my homepage) they should both provide the same metric.
Thanks,
YG -

You may have already read this but this is a great article about the DA and PA may throw some light for you Sir. http://moz.com/blog/whiteboard-friday-domain-authority-page-authority-metrics

So I think I get it now your saying that the Moz Bar is giving different data from Moz pro? I think I am getting what your saying, (just as note I have also noticed that there are times with SEM Rush for example that the data is "screwy" to say the least. ) I remember just before the christmas break SEM was reporting every keyword we track as down -99 positions, HEART ATTACK time !! So has this been going on for a while or just an isolated thing? I have always followed the approach that a single source of data or information is just that a single source, I would try cross referencing the metric with other tools and compare.
"One thing is for sure as SEO's we need many baskets and many eggs, to have one of each would be foolish." I wait to hear from you.
Best
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the reply. Let me try and be more specific. When i visit my homepage (root domain) the PA and DA are exactly the same. So my www.rootdomain.com (which is also the homepage) should give the exactly same Page authority and Domain authority metrics.
am i missing something?

Hi there so are you saying that you Domain Auth and Page Authority are the same throughout your site or just on one page, can you supply the URL please. It's possible that the 2 metrics are the same currently. have you been tracking the over time so you can do a comparison?? Please post back.

A few questions regarding Moz tools + E-commerce strategy
Hi everyone 🙂 I'm currently in the midst of optimizing a Scandinavian E-commerce site. I have a few questions, that hopefully someone will be able to help me get answered. Firstly, GoogleBots should be able to recognize "ø" as "oe", "æ" as "ae" and "å" as "aa" in the URL title. I've noticed that Moz' On-page grader does not support this unfortunately - has something changed or do Scandinavians just receive a little less love than the English? Secondly, how does one avoid keyword stuffing on E-commerce sites? The products that are displayed in category pages all make use of the same keyword that is targeted for that category. As such, some pages have 40+ mentions of the keyword, although in reality there are less than 15 (the rest being in the product names). Any tips or tricks on how to get this optimized or does Google simply recognize the site as an E-commerce site and somewhat ignores keyword stuffing - as long as the website has sufficient content? Thirdly, has something happened to Moz' Open Site Explorer? It seems like something has changed and when I checked for backlinks for the site today, only 3 was found. I know for a fact that many many more exist (which other tools also confirm when they scrape the site). Looking forward to hearing from all of you! Best, Mark

Compare Metrics in Moz
Wondering if there are any webinars or websites available to help me better understand and break down the different categories and what they specifically mean when you run a website through the Compare Metrics in Moz?

How is Moz Page Authority Calculated?
Can anyone refer me to a document that explains the measures that go into the calculation of Moz Page Authority? I'm chiefly interested in what counts and what doesn't -- follow links, no-follow links, internal and external, what (if any) on-site factors, etc.

Weekly and other data not available in moz tools
Dear All, Since last few days we are not getting updated results in moz tools. We get following warnings in the pages. "Hello! Weekly data for some campaigns is a bit behind schedule. Don't worry; it's processing now and will be available soon. Check out http://health.moz.com for the latest status on all of our tools. And thanks for your patience!" How much time it will take to show us the current results, so that we can properly work on it. Right now we are not able to measure any changes affected our site. Thanks, Om

Can I increase my DA with backlinks pointing to the www version ?
Hello Guys, I hope I am posting this in the right section... I was wondering something... I use the www version for my website, So I set the cannonicalisation and the 301 Redirect of non-www to www version. But I checked my website on MOZ (Open Site Explorer) and when I type in mywebsite.com I get 19 DA and 1 PA. When I typed in www,mywebsite.com I get 19 DA and 32 PA. So i would like to have some clarifications about how their domain authority and page authority system work. My PA of the www version is higher than my DA because almost all my link point to the www version and I do the 301 redirect. ? But how can I increase my DA if I focus on building backlink to the www version of my website ? Should I build link to the non-www version of my website to increase my DA even if I use the www version for my website ? If I build backlink to the non-www version, will it increase the PA of the www version since it's has a 301 redirect ? If I build backlink to the www version of my website will it increase the DA of my website ? Im really confused here so any help and clarification from you guys will be really appreciated. Thank You.

301 Redirects: How long for Google to recognize? How long for Moz/OSE to recognize?
I redirected a few pages that had funky URL issues (capitals and underscores and useless words) to the same page renamed with proper URLs. The sitemaps were changed also, and re-submitted. Like this: mydomain.com/Not_Pertinent_Words.html >>> mydomain.com/good-words.html Google seems to have found them and changed the search engine results listing in about 8 days. But it's been about a month now and Moz and OSE still have not transferred all the strength and link data from the old URLs to the new ones. Question 1: How long does it usually take Google to transfer all the link and strength data for a 301? Question 2: How long does it take Moz and OSE to do the same? Is there something I need to do to tell them about the changes?
