Duplicate content on SearchResults.asp
-
hi guys. I'm currently working through the reported crawl errors in Moz Analytics, but an unsure what to do about some of them. for example...
Searchresults.asp?search=frankie+says+relax
is showing as having duplicate page content and page title as
SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=13&search=Frankie+Says+Relax&show=24
There's all sorts of searchresults.asp page being flagged. Is this something i can safely ignore or is it something i should endeavour to rectify?
I'm also getting errors reported on shoppingcart.asp pages as well as pindex.asp (product index).
I'm thinking i should maybe add disallow/ shoppingcart.asp to my robots text file, but am unsure as to whether i should be blocking robots from the search results pages and product index (which is essentially a secondary sitemap).
Any advice would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks, Dave

Thank you both, really helpful

Dave,
Your best bet to keep these pages indexed but not have duplicate content issues is to add code that will place a canonical tag on search pages based on the original search query so that even when additional information was caused to load into the URL, such as your example, it would point back to the base page. If you do not want these pages indexed at all you can do what Keszi said or block all search pages using your robots.txt.
I would not block your product pages or search pages but I agree with blocking your shopping cart funnel.

Hi Dave,
Personally I would put a noindex, follow on all three of these pages.
The question to you would be the following: Do you think, that if someone would land on your website to one of these pages, would it deliver value for them?
The single item, that in my belief should be analyzed is the search pages. I'd check from Google Analytics if there is any organic traffic to these pages, compare it with the current pages that are on my site. And IF I find any new queries which I do not cover with my current pages/categories, I would create one for them.
I hope it helped. Gr., Keszi

Can't figure out why some of my pages are duplicate content
Within the crawl diagnostics area I'm getting duplicate page content issues on several pages. Since July 1, we've had a HUGE jump in errors on our weekly crawl. We don't think anything has changed on our website. Has MOZ changed something that would account for a large leap in duplicate content and duplicate title errors?
Our error report went from 1,900 to 18,000 in one swoop, starting right around the first of July. The errors are duplicate content and duplicate title, as if it does not see our 301 redirects. Any insights?

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

False Pro reporting of duplicate titles
I am testing Pro. About 250 pages of content at my website. Pro says ALL of my pages have duplicate titles., but when I click on details, they display as unique titles. Ie: first page of results of Pro is as follows. While the content of my website is on one major topic the title meta tags are NOT identical. Is this an issue with Pro, or is Pro looking at something other than the title meta tags? Please advise ? Ask a QuestionIs it possible to duplicate a report from one campaign to another one ?
Hi, Maybe it's easy to do and I've not seen it but I wonder wether or not it's possible to duplicate a report I've personnalised from one campaign to another one. I'd don't want to rewrite it and i'd like to have the same structure within all my reports ! Thanks,

Blogger Duplicate Content? and Canonical Tag
Hello: I previously asked this question, but I would love to get more perspectives on this issue. In Blogger, there is an archive page and label(s) page(s) created for each main post. Firstly, does Google, esp. considering Blogger is their product, possibly see the archive and tag pages created in addition to the main post as partial duplicate content? The other dilemma is that each of these instances - main post, archive, label(s) - claim to be the canonical. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this issue and Blogger and how Google is treating the partial duplicates and the canonical claims to the same content (even though the archives and label pages are partial?) I do not see anything in Blogger settings that allows altering these settings - in fact, the only choices in Blogger settings are 'Email Posting' and 'Permissions' (could it be that I cannot see the other setting options because I am a guest and not the blog owner?) Thanks so much everyone! PS - I was not able to add the blog as a campaign in SEOmoz Pro, which in and of itself is odd - and which I've never seen before - could this be part of the issue? Are Blogger free blogs not able to be crawled for some reason via SEOmoz Pro?
