Why my site so poorly ranks on Google
-
Hi
I hope you can help me for my site http://www.majordroid.com/
I really do not understand why my site so poorly ranks on Google. What can I do about that? Are there any errors or something? What can be done about that?
Also when I go to the Moz Tools - Open Site Explorer to check how many backlinks I have...
It says: 12 Total Links
but according to the Google Webmaster tools I have in total 334 links and 138 links to the homepage.
see attachment
Why Open Site Explorer does not see all the links to my site, which is a possible reason?
And last question, what I need to do to remove pages from Google search like this: /page/2. /page/3 and so on...
Thank you

Thank you Paddy
It is very hard to get high quality links. For example I am also willing to write for other sites to get source link... but this is also hard to get in.

Hi Ivan,
Thanks for your question. To answer each of your points:
-
Google Webmaster Tools and Open Site Explorer will often report different numbers of links from each other. They both use different crawlers and different methods of sorting the data, so they will never match up 100%. The same is true of other backlink tools such as Ahrefs or Majestic. I wouldn't worry too much about the numbers being different.

It can be hard to say why you're not ranking but it usually comes down to:
- The quality of your content
- The quality of your links
- The technical setup of the website
The quality of content generally seems to be fine and unique. However you don't seem to have many high quality links and as others have pointed out, there aren't that many. You may want to take a look at the following guide:
http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-link-building
You may also want to carry out a technical review of your website to ensure that there are no major problems, here is a very good checklist:
http://moz.com/blog/technical-site-audit-for-2015
It can often take time for traffic and rankings to grow, particularly in the industry you're targeting which looks a little bit competitive. So I'd advise taking a look at your competitors and seeing if you can learn anything from what they do. It does look like you're making progress though, I found this example of where you rank pretty well:

I hope the above helps!

according to ahrefs.com, my site has 73 dofollow links
I know it's not much, but I am trying...
what do you propose ? what can i do to get more dofollow links ?
thank you

Checked with ahrefs.com, ordering by ahrefs url importance (and skipping no-follow).
If you take the few ones coming from websites which are not forums or directories, like http://mobiteli.geek.hr/novosti/neo-mx4-je-prva-kopija-meizu-mx4/ you will see the content/copy is thin and the page authority is extremely low.

Hi,Thank you for the reply.
Yes, I am not targeting terms like android, phone etc....I would love to good rankg for terms like, meizu, thl, elephone p2000 etc...
So, what can you suggest me ? What anchors do I need to use? domain name or ?
Massimiliano Favilli,
talking about backlinks, I have only one backlink to directories....
Other backlinks are from forums and sites. I have many backlinks from very good sites...

In addition to what have already been said, the backlinks you have are of very poor quality, most of them are no-follow and almost all of them seems to come from forum or directories.

It's not uncommon to see differences between the number of links reported on various tools. I've often found WMT is a good guide to the absolute number of backlinks you really have. Having said that WMT seems to keep links forever. Even dropped links from years ago show in my WMT.
BTW ahrefs.com is reporting 177 backlinks for your domain.
As to why your site isn't ranking as well as you'd like (we all have that problem!) What search terms are you targeting? Broad terms like "android" and "phone" are going to be very difficult to rank for. Maybe try ranking some of your review pages for more specific terms like "Meizu mx4 pro review". In this short term this is likely to drive more traffic.

SEO impact of redirecting high ranking mirror site to the main website
During SEO audit for a client I noticed that they had over a dozen duplicate websites that are carbon copies of the main website. This was done via CMS platform and DNS. One of the mirror sites has about 400 indexed pages and has Moz DA of 42 and 137k External Equity-Passing Links. Full metrics comparison is attached. I originally planned on doing rel="canonical" on the mirror site but the CMS vendor never even heard of it and is refusing to implement it in the header. My only other option is doing one to one 301 redirects. Since the mirror site ranks well, even competes with main domain for some positions on the 1st page of SERP, what will be the impact after the redirects? Is doing 301's still the best option? Thanks! Crawl results on keyword rankings differ from actual search rankings
For the second week in a row, the weekly keyword rankings in my MOZ account show "not in top 50" for most keywords. However, when I check some of my rankings I still broadly have the rankings that I used to have. It seems that the MOZ crawl is experiencing some difficulties. Does anyone have suggestions how to find out what's going on? If I can't rely on the crawl outcomes, then the tool is not very useful anymore!

Ranking - UK or Localised?
The MOZ rankings are based on a GOOGLE UK search, when in reality when someone does a search on Google, the results, by default, are localised (based on the City IP). We need to see where we rank for a local search (Leeds) and also for a UK search?

Universal rankings has made my page not show in rankings any more
We've had a page with a video on it for ages; it always ranks well, generally around no. 5. But I've noticed that it's now ignored in SEMOZ as a page, and only shows as a Universal Result - so it looks as though our top page is no. 22, even thought the video shows as an icon still in the same position, no. 5. That's annoying as I now have to explain to my stakeholders how come our rankings appear to have dropped off a cliff - when i fact they haven't. The page appears in google SERPS exactly as it always has. Can anything be done to make it appear back as it did in SEMOZ? Thanks

Does Open Site Explorer purposefully not crawl some sites?
I use both SEOmoz's Open Site Explorer and Web Master Tools to find backlinks when conducting link audits. WMT always finds more links than OSE; I understand Google's database is bigger. But what is interesting to me is that it seems that a large percentage of the links WMT finds that OSE does not are real crappy links that I don't want. That makes me wonder if SEOmoz decides not to crawl certain, low quality, sites? Just curious.

Open Site Explorer Not Working on 99% of Sites
I'm trying to use Open Site Explorer, but whenever I try to I get the error message "Ouch! It Looks Like Something Went South". Interestingly, I don't have this problem when entering a very popular site like google.com, yahoo.com, bbc.co.uk. Is there a problem with the tool at the moment, or something wrong on my end?

Strange Ranking On 1st Page Of Google For Competitive Keyword
Hey all, So, I've noticed a site ranking on the first page in Google for a keyword that I have been targeting for years. The keyword is "mixtapes" and pretty competitive. The site, http://www.newyorkmixtapes.com is ranking around #4 in Google. It seemed odd to me so I looked into the site using some of the tools here. Open Explorer showed that they have minimal links. The actual site is pretty spammy also. Does anyone have any idea how this site ranked so high so fast? Is it ranking because I am located in New York? Does Google still put lots of weight on exact match domains? It's just been bothering me because it's a keyword that I put a lot of work into and then the site rolls around an ranks well for it with barely any backlinks. I just wanted to put it out there and see if I'm missing something obvious. Thanks everyone!
