Htaccess mod rewrite from server address
-
Hi there,
I'm not massively experienced with creating mod rewrite rules and I'm worried I've got this wrong as its slightly different to what I'm used to.
The web dev and content creators were working on http://5.10.105.45/~isea/ to create content.
I want to redirect all URL's to www.iseasurfwear.co.uk. This is what I've written
//Rewrite to www
Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/[nc]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.iseasurfwear.co.uk/$1 [r=301,nc]Can anyone tell me if this is correct?
-
Try
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]Or
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} /~isea/$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.NewDomain.com/$1 [R=301,L]** (edit) Make sure your sever has Mod Rewrite Enabled*

Agreed, but for now I just want to cover the issue so we can move forward. Slight update to my code. This rewrites the homepage, but doesn't seem to be rewriting anything else. Any tips?
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteEngine on
rewritecond %{http_host} ^5.10.105.45/~isea/ [nc]
rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [r=301,nc] -
If you're moving from a dev environment to live, it's not redirects that you need. You need to update the references in the code of the template and in the content areas that your developers didn't clean up when moving the site to live. Doing rewrites will only cover the issue, but the incorrect links will still be there.

Just tested. It doesn't work. Any help?

301 redirects without .htaccess
I have a client that recently moved from an old ZenCart e-commerce site to Volusion. The domain name did not change. We need to redirect a bunch of the old URLs; however, Volusion's redirect tool does not work for URLS with "?" . The old ZenCart structure is: http://www.mydomain.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=563 Volusion is a hosted platform and we do not have access to the .htaccess file. Any suggestions on a workaround? Thanks!Nancy <colgroup><col width="960"></colgroup>

HTTP Vary:User-Agent Server or Page Level?
Looking for any insights regarding the usage of the Vary HTTP Header. Mainly around the idea that search engines will not like having a Vary HTTP Header on pages that don't have a mobile version, which means the header will be to be implemented on a page-by-page basis. Additionally, does anyone has experience with the usage of the Vary HTTP Header and CDNs like Akamai?Google still recommends using the header, even though it can present some challenges with CDNs. Thanks!

Htaccess code to 301 redirect a folder change
Hi, I need some help to redirect all my site as there was a folder change. eg, the old structure was www.mysite.com/stuff-1/bags.html and I need it to go to the same structure without the "-1" eg: /stuff/bags.html

The "bags.html" will be lots of different products, so this would be a wildcard? What would the htaccess code need to be? Thanks0 -
Why are my URL's with a trailing slash still getting indexed even though they are redirected in the .htaccess file?
My .htaccess file is set up to redirect a URL with a trailing / to the URL without the /. However, my SEOmoz crawl diagnostics report is showing both URL's. I took a look at my Google Webmaster account and saw some duplicate META title issues. Same thing, Google Webmaster is showing the URL with the trailing /. My website was live for about 3 days before I added the code to the .htaccess file to remove the trailing /. Is it possible that in those 3 days that both versions were indexed and haven't been removed even though the .htaccess file has been updated?

How to skip all rewrite rules
My web host account allows me to have multiple domain names. Internally, the first domain is the main domain, and the additional domains are virtual domains, but externally, the intent is for each domain to appear as a unique domain. When accessing a virtual domain, the server first processes the main .htaccess file, and then processes the .htaccess file for that virtual domain. I'm sure this is a common setup, and this is not unique to my web host. Due the main .htaccess file, references to virtual.com are rewritten as main.com/virtual. The web pages are displayed correctly, but of course, this rewrite is not what is desired. What is the common solution? For example, is there a conditional rewrite rule that says ignore the rest of the rewrite rules in this .htacces file? Best,

IP addresses indexed?
I've met with a potential client who has a site with 1,000's of very specific part #'s which don't show in the SERP's on Google. They definitely have the issue of dynamic URL's - but the URL for the part # searches is an IP address rather than their domain name - example: 188.888.888.888/partssearch.php?pnum='1233445' I've not seen the IP address used like this for an external website - is this acceptable for SEO purposes? Thanks, Mark

Frequent server changes
Hey guys. I have a server related question. One of our websites is hosted with a nasty slow company, and we want to make a change. The problem we have is that the site is 6 months old so it started on one server, the client then moved it to this slow host about 2 months ago, we now want to move it again. Will this negatively affect search engine rankings? As ever, thanks in advance 🙂
