Https Loss of Search traffic
-
Hey guys,
We moved our site to from http to https. We subsequently lost 25% in our search traffic in 1 Month. We changed a few other pieces such as images, added new content etc.
Has anyone got any suggestions on how we start to understand what happened?
Thanks in advance.

I would also set up your HTTPS site as a new one in Google Webmaster Tools and Bing Webmaster Tools (Bing automatically does it), but set it up in GWT. Once you have done that, make sure your sitemap is added and crawled again.
Get GWT to crawl the sitemap again from your non HTTPS account too, so redirects are recorded.

Hi
I can see that Tom and Ryan have done a great job of handling the most obvious issue that may have caused your site to drop in terms of changing to HTTPS. You have also mentioned the fact that you have changed some significant on-page factors which could definitely be the culprit.
However I thought I would just add this - I saw someone move to HTTPS and they did implement the correct redirects and then register both versions of the site in webmaster tools and so on. However they still saw a noticeable drop in their organic traffic which turned out to be caused by a significant drop in site speed after moving to HTTPS.
You may have already checked and your site may seem fast but I would double check the speed of your site with Google Page Speed Insights and GTMetrix (another speed tool I like). If your site seems slow look at what you can do to improve it with the recommendations on these tools (as this will help your site whatever) - also speak to your host and explain you are seeing a decrease in speed can they help.
This tactic worked in this case and I just thought I would mention it as another angle to approach this.
Hope this helps!

Great! It sounds like you're on the right track John, especially considering that there are some title and H1 changes took place. Cheers!

Hey Ryan,
Thanks for the answer and the link, We will add it to that pingfarm. Thanks guys but we need to make sure this is in order.

Hi Tom,
Thanks a million for the great answer. I missed that in my description, we have added in 301 redirects for all links but still saw a drop. My apologies, I left that out initially.
We have also identified that we are missing a number of H1's and have changed our title tags.

To follow up on Tom's great response, even with the 301 redirect in place, you could still be experiencing the delay typical to redirection. Pinging the new domain may help you speed up that process. To do so create a list of the site pages and submit them to PingFarm and 247pinger. Those will help to verify the new site and de-index the old URLs.
Also, as a reference, here's Google's over view of transitioning to HTTPS: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6073543. Cheers!

Hi John
The first thing I would ask in this situation is - did you 301 redirect the non SSL (http) versions of your pages to the SSL (https)?
If you didn't - that could be a big problem. First of all, that could run into a couple of duplicate content issues and canonical issues, as you would have two versions of each page battling each other for prominence. However, what I think would be more of an issue is the fact that if you didn't redirect the pages and if you didn't change any of your inbound links - the links that you had pointing to the website might now be pointing to inactive pages, and the link 'equity' your site had may now be lost.
This might be a redundant point as you may have implemented the redirects - but it's always the first thing that I look out for.
If you're looking to redirect all of the http pages, this bit of code is something you can add to your htaccess file to redirect all URLs on your site:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}Again, apologies if you have already done this but if not, I hope it helps.

301 Redirect and Loss of PA and DA
Mozzers, http:itsgr82bme.com Old domain homepage had a DA of 24 and a PA of 36 Currently redirected to http://thekidstime.com Homepage shows a DA of 6 and a PA of 1. That is a significant loss of authority. I thought a 301 is supposed to be better than that. What gives? What are the next steps, asking the old backlinks to update their links? Thanks for your help, Matt

Searching for SEO/SEM with eCommerce Experience
I've debated on whether I should ask this on the Q&A forum. Many times I have started to write it, then changed my mind. So today, after sending another round of emails out to potential SEM and SEO consultants and getting zero response, I said what the heck and decided to post it. I will point the finger at myself and say I must be doing something wrong in my approach and the way I am seeking out consultants or maybe what I am not saying. However, I cannot seem to get SEO companies to return my phone calls or emails. Is my company too small? Are most of the companies recommended here too busy with other work to worry about following up? Is my company and brand not sexy enough to deal with? Am I coming across wrong in my emails and phone calls? With that being said, I decided to write a post here and clearly state some basic and general requirements in hope someone interested will respond. I would be more than happy to answer and specific questions about my company, budget, etc. in a PM. I am looking for an SEO firm or consultants who: Will deal with small businesses with revenue under $2M. I have budgeted for this and am ready to start a project immediately. Have experience and a successful track record working with eCommerce sites who sell a large number of products. Interested in a long term relationship that will produce long lasting, durable results. Try to understand my business and what it will take to make grow my ONLINE profitability. I look forward to speaking to anyone interested. Jake

Empty search results labeled as Soft 404s?
I have a site with faceted search but sometimes when someone drills down too far it ends up with no results. The page and outlined and faceted navigation are still there. The site uses dynamic URLs for the faceted navigation but Google is reporting these no results pages as Soft 404s. How should we handle these? Should we redirect these? Can we return 404 in the status code but still show the no results page they are looking for? Thanks for your responses

How to get traffic from a particular Geographical region?
Our company is based out of India and has a web site with .in domain ; however our target customers are from North America and Australia.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | TPS2013
The problem is we get as high as 70% of organic traffic from India.
This 70% traffic from India has little use to us. Possibly because we have ”.in “ domain the Google local search is active.
How to reverse this situation; I mean we are looking for more traffic from across the globe except India.
Any suggestions ? P.S. Changing domain from .in to .com is not an option as its the part of our brand advertised for last 7 years1 -
Local Search Results Tanked My 1st Page Ranking
My site was routinely ranking in the top 2-3 in Google for my relevant search terms. Then I started working on my local SEO. Now I'm in the map list at 1-2, but my site no longer shows up with the rest of the search results. I've heard that this has been happening to other local businesses with a big Google presence. I'm thinking that I should create some micro sites for each location listing that gives a location specific intro and then links to my main site. Then I can sever my main site from Google places. Here are my two questions: 1) Is this going to kill my placement in the map results; and, How long will it take for my main site to get back to its 2-3 spot rankings in Google's regular results?
