How can I tell Google not to index a portion of a webpage?
-
I'm working with an ecommerce site that has many product descriptions for various brands that are important to have but are all straight duplicates. I'm looking for some type of tag tht can be implemented to prevent Google from seeing these as duplicates while still allowing the page to rank in the index. I thought I had found it with Googleoff, googleon tag but it appears that this is only used with the google appliance hardware.
-
Correct you should make sure is not used elsewhere.
But I can't refrain from stressing again to hide the content is unlikely the best strategy.
-
So what should it look like in the code?
If my area to block was a product description it might say
"Product Description
bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla"
Secondly, in the robots.txt if I disallow /iframes/ then I would need to make sure we are not using iframes anywhere else?
-
Just as Chris Painter pointed out, you shouldn't worry too much about duplicate content if your site is legit (not an autoblog for example) and if you really want hide it from google, iframes are the way to go.

Matt Cutts has said (source:http://youtu.be/Vi-wkEeOKxM ) not to worry too much about duplicate content especially with the sheer volume of it there is on the internet. You may find you're looking more like you are trying to cheat Google or similar which could cause you a bigger head ache not to mention you may slow your webapge down, duplicate content isn't the worse enemy for seo. If you are worried put all the effort of trying to hide stuff from Google into making the product description unique.

Hello Brad,
Just to get your question clear.
I'm I correct that you want a method that does let Google (and other search engines) know a portion of your pages are duplicates while you want both duplicated pages and original pages to rank in the SERP's?
If you could provide us with an example (link) that would help a great deal as well.

Hi Brad,
You can prevent Google from seeing portions of the page by putting those portions in iframes that are blocked by
robots.txt.
Disallow: /iframes/
Thanks

You can iframe those chunks of content and block with robots.txt or just meta tagging noindex in the iframe source.
But I would not, if you can't build a plan to make the content unique just canonicalize, or let google choose which page to pick among the duplicate bunch.

They are all search results present in google but for how long. it is so annoying, you put so many work but in result get high spam score. It is obvious that new pages can not get good links in one month https://meko.lv/ google webmasters google page speed score: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmeko.lv%2F&tab=mobile q1LDHTn

Can someone evaluate this page so I can continue adding others?
Hi, I am adding a bunch of similar category stickers and I am not looking into that good SEO for these since there will be hundreds of them coming but I just want to include the relevant keywords that people perhaps use in the Google image search to take them to our site. They are all related to JDM (Japanese Domestic Motors) so I decided to include JDM at the end of all the SEO titles. I am writing totally different short descriptions for all of these stickers and the Related Products are changing as well. I just want to achieve something like Amazon or eBay listings do - not the perfect SEO since I cannot spend too much time with each sticker optimizing it but I don't want to NOINDEX, FOLLOW them either - hence the different related products for all items and also unique short descriptions. If you check one of the pages: http://www.redrockdecals.com/rising-sun-wakaba-leaf-sticker-red-black-jdm Do you think I should be in the safe side so I don't hurt my overall SEO? Thanks!!

Blocked URL parameters can still be crawled and indexed by google?
Hy guys, I have two questions and one might be a dumb question but there it goes. I just want to be sure that I understand: IF I tell webmaster tools to ignore an URL Parameter, will google still index and rank my url? IS it ok if I don't append in the url structure the brand filter?, will I still rank for that brand? Thanks, PS: ok 3 questions :)...

Website is not indexed in Google
Hi Guys, I have a problem with a website from a customer. His website is not indexed in Google (except for the homepage). I could not find anything that can possibly be the cause. I already checked the robots.txt, sitemap, and plugins on the website. In the HTML code i also couldn't find anything which makes indexing harder than usual. This is the website i am talking about: http://www.xxxx.nl/ (Dutch) The only thing that i am guessing now is the Google sandbox, but even that is quite unlikely. I hope you guys discover something i could not find! Thanks in advance 🙂

Does Google index has expiration?
Hi, I have this in mind and I think you can help me. Suppose that I have a pagin something like this: www.mysite.com/politics where I have a list of the current month news. Great, everytime the bot check this url, index the links that are there. What happens next month, all that link are not visible anymore by the user unless he search in a search box or google. Does google keep those links? The current month google check that those links are there, but next month are not, but they are alive. So, my question is, Does google keep this links for ever if they are alive but nowhere in the site (the bot not find them anymore but they work)? Thanks

Google previews meanings
I have noticed that when I do a site:mysite.com search and all my indexed pages come up, that when I hover over the arrows and bring up the previews some of the pages have things in a red rectangle and some of the pages even have zig zag-like tears/perforations running through them. What do these signify?

Speed up the process of removing URLs from Google Index
Hi guys, We have done some work to try to remove pages from Google index. We have done the following: 1. Noindex tag 2. Make pages returning a 404 response. Is there anyway to notify Google about these changes so we can speed up the process of removing these pages from Google index? Also regarding the URL removal tool, Google says that it's used to remove URLs from search results, does it mean the URLs are removed from their index too? Many thanks guys David
