301 redirects for 3 top level domains using WP SEO Yoast
-
Hey Guys
I have a custom built website - and a wp blog attached to this - problem is there are 3 top level domains:
zenory.co.nz, zenory.com and zenory.com.au
**The issue is when I enter the domain to 301 redirect I only have to enter one domain usually i enter redirect from zenory.com/blog/oldpage to zenory.com.newpage **
For eg: I have just move Phone Psychic Readings from the blog - over to the main site. However there seems to be an issue that I'm still having and trying to clean up. I'm finding backlinks there are linking to each other of my 3 domains that end up backlinking across domains, which I was told this can look as spammy to google. For eg: co.nz links many pages to com.au. I'm currently trying to clean this up at the moment - however while im in the process of this - I find myself question when I'm creating the 301 redirects from the blog - but lets say I'm on the blog for zenoy.co.nz/blog/oldblogpost and when I click on a blog post - it redirects me to zenory.com/newarticlepost - because I have redirected it to .com - how can I redirect and make sure is going back to the right domain name to save myself from having to show this cross backlinks?
Would gratefully appreciate any assistance on this tricky situation.
Cheers

Hi Dirk,
Sorry i only just picked up your message! Thanks again for your response!
I will try adding what you have suggested, when you /folder_to_be_removed/ - can you explain what that means?
-
Hi Justin,
If you want to redirect to home I guess you should just put / as the destination url (as told - not really an expert in Yoast)
I think the rule should look like
Redirect 301 /folder_to_be_removed/ /
Could you give it a try?

Hi Dirk,
I'm trying to create a redirect to the home page of com, com.au and co.nz but what do i put as the relative? /zenory.com /zenory.co.nz /zenory.com.au to make sure it goes to that site and doesn't cross over? i found linking to category was fine but home page im stuck here.
I hope I have explained it clearly
Cheers

Great to see you found an answer Justin!

Great! (you can ignore my last answer below - I wrote it before I noticed that you solved it already)

Hi Justin,
The redirect should not be:
zenory.co.nz/blog/phone-psychic-reading 301/ to zenory.com/phone-psychic-readings
but
/blog/phone-psychic-reading 301/ to /phone-psychic-readings
If you add the domains it will only be correct for 1 domain & wrong for the 2 others.
Not sure if the plugin can handle this - but it's worth trying.

Dirk

Dirk, Brilliant - that worked Omg your a life saver! Thanks so much for fixing this for me! I had no idea what relative was until you mentioned it! Learning everyday from you ! Thanks so much I'm really grateful!

Hi Dirk
I must of just missed your post -
I updated it now as per what you were saying
The post is now zenory.co.nz/blog/phone-psychic-reading 301/ to zenory.com/phone-psychic-readings. The problem I'm facing as you can see from this scenario - if you went to https://www.zenory.com.au/blog/page/4/ which is the com.au your still on the blog - if you click on the old Phone Psyhic Readings listing - it will take you to zenory.co.nz/phone-psychic-readings (because that is the domain name i have se the 301 redirect too) but for the purpose of stopping the banks links that are crossing each domain - perhaps I'm doing this incorrectly?
Hope I'm making sense here!

Hi Justin,
Correct me if I am wrong - but I guess you use the same backoffice for the three sites. So if you redirect the page to an absolute url on the .com domain all these pages will be redirected to the .com domain.
I am not really familiar with the Yoast plugin - but could you try to put the redirect url in relative - replace https://www.zenory.com/pet-psychic-readings by /pet-psychic-readings & check if this works?
rgds,
Dirk

Hi Dirk
Thanks for coming to the rescue again
Here is a screenshot I took of the admin side in WP - I created a new page on the main site for Pet Psychic Readings https://www.zenory.com/pet-psychic-readings - I moved this post from the blog (zenory.com/blog/pet-psychic-readings) and entered a 301 redirect to https://www.zenory.com/pet-psychic-readings - however when I go back to the blog post https://www.zenory.co.nz/blog/category/pets-animals/ (as you can see im on the co.nz - when I click on the article it redirects to the com - and this is because I have set it to go to the .com - but should this not go to the co.nz? Im not too sure where I need to enter a 301 zenory.co.nz/pet-psychic-readings?
Here is the screen shot -
I hope I have answered your question? Let me know if I have the wrong end of the stick
Cheers again Dirk

Hi Justin,
Think I found the page you mentioned:
If you want to redirect zenory.co.nz/blog/phone-psychic-readings/ to zenory.co.nz/phone-psychic-readings-at-zenory
your redirect rule should look something like this (both old & new page should be relative or absolute, I guess in your case the old is put as relative while the new is an absolute url on the .com domain)
Redirect 301 /blog/phone-psychic-readings/ /phone-psychic-readings-at-zenory
rgds,
Dirk

Hi Justin,
Could you post an example of the redirect rule you use
Regarding your internal links pointing to the other sites - a possible solution could be to use relative rather than absolute links. This way you will always stay on the same domain. The disadvantage with relative links is that it's quite easy to create eternal loops if you make a mistake in the code somewhere. If you crawl your site regularly with Screaming Frog however you should be able to detect these errors quite fast.

Top authors for ecommerce content
Hello, What are some tips that you recommend for someone looking to hire an expert to write or consult in a piece of content. It's as general a keyword as our niche has and it's the only keyword that's actually inside the niche that has any decent level of backlinks. We're considering searching out an expert in our field that knows more about the subject than our people do even though our people are knowledgable. Trying to come from authority. Your recommendations in the process of coming up with a great piece of content from a good authority?

Contacted by an SEO company..
We have been contacted by a free SEO company, who seem to use your domain and create articles for you on your site, linking to other relevant sites, while other relevant sites link to yours. All they ask is a small link on your homepage. An excerpt of the instructions are: Download the attached files in a folder to be uploaded to your server (public_html) folder Set 777 permission to the folder. This allows our script to work on your site Add the "site wide" link on your homepage, as well as on the inner pages, the same way we do in the article section. Implement the "site wide" link following the instructions on the README.txt file Copy the script on the file or you can provide us with a temporary FTP access to your server and we will do it for you. Please note that if you can upload our folder to your site within 48 hours, you will be eligible to receive 20 bonus links for your SEO campaign. Should we tread carefully?

Purchasing an EXPIRING domain with quality related links
I'm about to purchase a domain that has highly trusted links pointed to it. I would like to 301 redirect that domain to point to a brand new domain in the same niche. Some of the links that the expiring domain would take me a long time to obtain so I am thinking to use this method to my advantage. I know that this is not really a legitimate way to go to build backlinks, but surely this is going to give me good serp improvement which is my main concern at the moment. I am going to test this method to see if it benefits me in anyway but I would like some opinions to this please.
