Duplicate Content
-
HI There,
Hoping someone can help me - before i damage my desk banging my head.
Getting notifications from ahrefs and Moz for duplicate content. I have no idea where these weird urls have came from , but they do take us to the correct page (but it seems a duplicate of this page).
correct url http://www.acsilver.co.uk/shop/pc/Antique-Vintage-Rings-c152.htm
Incorrect url http://www.acsilver.co.uk/shop/pc/vintage-Vintage-Rings- c152.htm
This is showing for most of our store categories
Desperate for help as to what could be causing these issues. I have a technical member of the ecommerce software go through the large sitemap files and they assured me it wasn't linked to the sitemap files.

Hi Gemma,
Strange! Typically, %20 is the symbol that content management systems use to convert spaces into allowable characters in URLs. Have you found any URLs that were written in the HTML with an accidental space?
That said, I know I'm a Moz associate and all, but Moz and Ahrefs are not nearly as good at understanding the web as Google; it's completely possible that these are errors that their crawlers are picking up, but Google isn't having a problem. Try searching for "site:[duplicate URL]" to see if Google is indexing this "duplicate content." I just checked with the example you provided, and it's not in Google's index.
If some other duplicate content URLs are in Google's index, then I'd use Google Analytics to determine where the traffic is coming from to these pages, in order to find where the URLs are written incorrectly.
Hope this helps!
Kristina

It seems strange that the weird url i get takes me to the right page but it shows the sites homepage meta information !! I have no clue why this would occur

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try and get to the cause of these urls and then if i cant get to the bottom of it i will look at adding 301's however it will mean adding a lot of them

Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to assist.
I have checked the internal and external links to the url and there aren't any, also checked sitemap and these links aren't present there.
Regarding https, it was switched on at one point for a matter of minutes as it was done in error.
Regarding the link you state we had issues with these in the past which were generated from an external site which we had no control over.
Im hitting blanks as to locating how these are being generated.
Can you tell me what screaming frog can show me that Moz and ahrefs software doesn't? I haven't used it before.

In addition to what Bryan suggested, have you crawled your site using screaming frog or some other service.
Did you try going https: at some point??
Or... http://www.acsilver.co.uk/www.acsilver.co.uk/shop/pc/vintage-Vintage-Rings- c152.htm

It seems like something about either your search functions, or the e-commerce functionality, is causing these duplicate pages. Without having access to that information, I can tell you that the best option from my point of view would be to redirect all of the "incorrect" urls to the "correct" ones using 301s. I suggest taking a look at this page on Google Search Console (formerly known as Webmaster Tools) if you're unfamiliar with how that works. No matter what platform your website uses, this should do you good.

How does Google view duplicate photo content?
Now that we can search by image on Google and see every site that is using the same photo, I assume that Google is going to use this as a signal for ranking as well. Is that already happening? I ask because I have sold many photos over the years with first-use only rights, where I retain the copyright. So I have photos on my site that I own the copyright for that are on other sites (and were there first). I am not sure if I should make an effort to remove these photos from my site or if I can wait another couple years.

Duplicate Content: Canonicalization vs. Redirects
Hi all, I have a client that I recently started working with whose site was built with the following structure: domain.com
Technical SEO | | marisolmarketing
domain.com/default.asp Essentially, there is a /default.asp version of every single page on the site. That said, I'm trying to figure out the easiest/most efficient way to fix all the /default.asp pages...whether that be 301 redirecting them to the .com version, adding a canonical tag to every .asp page, or simply NOINDEXing the .asp pages. I've seen a few other questions on here that are similar, but none that really say which would be the easiest way to accomplish this without going through every single page... Thanks in advance!0 -
How do I deal with Duplicate content?
Hi, I'm trying SEOMOZ and its saying that i've got loads of duplicate content. We provide phone numbers for cities all over the world, so have pages like this... https://www.keshercommunications.com/Romaniavoipnumbers.html https://www.keshercommunications.com/Icelandvoipnumbers.html etc etc. One for every country. The question is, how do I create pages for each one without it showing up as duplicate content? Each page is generated by the server, but Its impossible to write unique text for each one. Also, the competition seem to have done the same but google is listing all their pages when you search for 'DID Numbers. Look for DIDWW or MyDivert.

Determining where duplicate content comes from...
I am getting duplicate content warnings on the SEOMOZ crawl. I don't know where the content is duplicated. Is there a site that will find duplicate content?

Is Noindex Enough To Solve My Duplicate Content Issue?
Hello SEO Gurus! I have a client who runs 7 web properties. 6 of them are satellite websites, and 7th is his company's main website. For a long while, my company has, among other things, blogged on a hosted blog at www.hismainwebsite.com/blog, and when we were optimizing for one of the other satellite websites, we would simply link to it in the article. Now, however, the client has gone ahead and set up separate blogs on every one of the satellite websites as well, and he has a nifty plug-in set up on the main website's blog that pipes in articles that we write to their corresponding satellite blog as well. My concern is duplicate content. In a sense, this is like autoblogging -- the only thing that doesn't make it heinous is that the client is autoblogging himself. He thinks that it will be a great feature for giving users to his satellite websites some great fresh content to read -- which I agree, as I think the combination of publishing and e-commerce is a thing of the future -- but I really want to avoid the duplicate content issue and a possible SEO/SERP hit. I am thinking that a noindexing of each of the satellite websites' blog pages might suffice. But I'd like to hear from all of you if you think that even this may not be a foolproof solution. Thanks in advance! Kind Regards, Mike

Duplicate content
I am getting flagged for duplicate content, SEOmoz is flagging the following as duplicate: www.adgenerator.co.uk/ www.adgenerator.co.uk/index.asp These are obviously meant to be the same path so what measures do I take to let the SE's know that these are to be considered the same page. I have used the canonical meta tag on the Index.asp page.
