What is the correlation between the SEOMOZ PR number and where my site is showing up in an organic search?
-
For years, our company placed 3 or 4 in an organic search on Google for the keyword I am inquiring about. A couple of months ago, we went down to number 15.
I then subscribed to SEOMOZ and began a concerted effort to improve our ranking for this keyword.
Slowly, our listing came up higher in searches and on our reports- back onto the first page #8. Our weekly SEOMOZ reports reflected this improvement, but then it dropped down again to page 2, #11.
My most recent report, this week, gave us a PR 8 for this keyword, but our listing is showing upon page 2, #11.
I do have my personal search and browser history disabled. I am unclear as to why there is this discrepancy.

Yes. Exactly. Yesterday, my ranking report dated 12/11/12 said PR 8 but I saw myself in position #11.
Today, 12/12/12, the page rank in the report has changed and is matching what I see when I search. It's #11 and my search is #11. The report on 12/11/12 says PR 8, today the report number has gone up to 11. I didn't realized that there could be a lag time or that reports might change during the week. I thought the report was the report for its particular week and that to see updated info, one would have to wait for the next week for a new report. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks, Jamo.
I am not logged into Google when I search.
The key word is "web design Santa Barbara'
Interesting that there is no correlation because prior to this week's report the two were identical: PR # and our placement on Google, so I assumed it was one and the same.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "My most recent report, this week, gave us a PR 8 for this keyword." Are you saying the ranking report put you in position #8, but you see yourself in position #11?
-
Hi there,
are you logged in to google when you search?
What keyword are you looking for? i could check here where you rank and it might give me a better idea (i need to know the website then).
There is no direct correlation between the two to my knowledge.
Hope to hear from you.
kind regards
Jarno

Site Explorer shows links as followable but they have nofollow tags
Hello, I am looking at site explorer and sites linking to my site moneyfact.co.uk. I've got thousands of links showing as 'followable' but when i check them they have rel="nofollow" tags. e.g: http://www.dianomioffers.co.uk/partner/moneyfacts.co.uk/brochures.epl?partner=93&partner_id=93&partner_variant_id=33 Why would they show as followable when the links are nofollowed? Thanks Steve

What SeoMoz tool am I thinking of?
A few months ago I found a tool on Moz that did keyword link research. It is not keyword analysis either. It took a word and turned it into links such as dir:cabinet. I can't find it or remember or it. Does anyone else know? (I know this description sucks, sorry about that)

How to Use Open Site Explorer
I've used Open Site Explorer here at SEOmoz for the first time and I'm confused by the results. I'm wondering how dated the results are? And, what are they based on? For example, I'm certain my facebook shares and like are higher...same with the twitter links. It seems kind of old?! One of my competitors who gets about 2x more traffic than me DOES have great backlinks. I know that. BUT, it's odd that her facebook and twitter results are what they are compared to mine - they're WAY higher in site explorer AND her links seem on par with her facebook page whereas mine don't. Whereas mine seem WAy Way lower than what they are in reality. She barely tweets and facebooks any more. Maybe once per month. She started out gangbusters, but doesn't do it much any more. That's kinda why I'm wondering if it's based on older stuff and not updated often? Anyone know?

Links from External Sites not Showing on OpenSite or Google Webmaster Tools
Hi, I asked this in another post, but didn't get a solid answer. For several websites I manage, I have access to their Google Webmaster Tools. When I put the site through there, or the link:// or SEOMoz's OpenSite link reporter, I get not even a fraction of the links that I know are pointing to the websites in question. Some of these links are from home pages or side columns, and some are from articles keep within a website, like at Inc.com. I wondered if the links in question were not themselves being indexed, but if I do a very specific search, I can pull them up in the search results. Is it just common knowledge that these link tools are not accurate? And to assume that somehow, search engines really do see all of the inbound links, even if our reporting tools don't. Thanks in advance!
