Tips on speeding up disavow process and still doing it right
-
Hello,
I'm doing a 10-step disavow check using this article, this word document, and this corresponding spreadsheet template. Doing a disavow for a non-manual penguin penalty (paid links, doorway sites)
It's taking a long time. Can you give me some pointers of how to speed things up? I want to do it right but I need to know how I can do it faster. Like tricks on domains to automatically disavow, what not to check, whatever tips you have.
I'm using Cognitive SEO and manual checking. I'd like to avoid pricy tools. I'm on a mac.
Thanks!

I'm sorry to say, there really is no way to speed it up without cutting corners!
Link removal is a painfully slow process but one that needs to be done if your link profile is terrible. I don't use exactly the same process as that guide but it's pretty close and it's going to be about the same speed.
There are automation tools out there and maybe a little Excel trick or two that could save you seconds but if you've got a big, low quality profile, there really is no way to save any significant amount of time without risk of missing some.

Purchasing an established domain name - Whats the right move?
Hey Moz community, To fill you in, we have a situation where we are able to purchase a domain name that has some longevity behind it, has some great inbound links coming to it, and until recently was ranking incredibly well for all of the relevant keywords nationwide. The issue is, the seller took their website down about a month ago and now, since the domain has been sitting there going to no mans lands for that period of time, it has fallen off the map for all of those important keyword rankings. I'm looking for guidance on the following: 1. If we still move forward with purchasing the domain name, do you believe we could recover those rankings quickly? Or are we better off building from scratch with a new domain. 2. Because of the back links alone, I still feel there is some value in this domain name. The issue is, if we buy it, what do we do with it when we have it? Make that our primary domain name going forward? direct the domain name to a landing page/site that ultimately leads website visitors down a path to get to our website? Something else? Any insight / thoughts / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. DH.

Why is my comp still beating me??
Hey Friends, I have been doing some analyzing in opensiteexplorer and attached below is an image showing my url (5th position) and my competitors (1st position). Any ideas as to WHY they are still beating me in rankings? I'm sure there could be a number of reasons but the numbers are staggering. I have included the rel="canonical" tag in all my product pages, but still getting canonical error in MOZ reports for more than 6 month ! I would like to know if my code is wrong or the MOZ report system is not working properly. Here is an example of my canonical code in line 84 rel="canonical" href="http://www.doornmore.com/slab-single-door-80-fiberglass-courtlandt-1-panel-arch-lite-glass.html" /> Thanks Shayann

Is it still best practice to optimize your site with geographic long tail keywords?
Since Google is tailoring search results to user IP and location, is it still best practice to optimize your site titles etc. with long-tail geographic keywords? For example, instead of optimizing a page for "dentist in West Palm Beach, Florida", search users who are IN West Palm Beach can just search "dentists" and a list of local dentists will be displayed (both in the local listings AND organic search listings). I'd love to see Rand cover this on a Whiteboard Friday!

Crawl started on the 18th of December and still hasn't completed!
As the title states I started a crawl over 2 weeks ago now and it still hasn't completed. Does anyone know why this could be? Thanks

Adding canonical still returns duplicate pages
According to SEOmoz, several of my campaigns show that I have duplicate pages (SEOmoz Errors). Upon reading more about how to resolve the issue, I followed SEOmoz's suggestion to add rel='canonical' <links>to each page. After the next SEOmoz crawl, the number of SEOmoz Errors related to duplicate pages remained the same and the number of SEOmoz notices shot up indicating that it recognized that I added rel='canonical'.</links> I'm still puzzled as to why the SEOmoz errors did not go down with respect to duplicate page errors after I added rel='canonical', especially since SEOmoz noticed that I added them. Can anyone explain this to me? Thanks,

Title Page Two Long Still shows
This should be an easy one. I signed up for this service in November. The first report showed many title pages too long etc. I fixed all known errors. On December 28 there was another crawl but the errors still show up on the report. Why? Is there anything I can do to update so I can get down to the few I missed
