Ranking and Indexing Issue
-
We have an established site www.getinspired365.com that previously wasn't SEO optimised. We are currently in the process of testing out some new pages to see if we can get them to rank in Google, however we are seeing huge fluctuations in where they rank. Within the first few days we saw our page rank on the first or second page, however it has now dropped out of the top 250 search results. We are wondering if we have made any mistakes with our optimisation ?
Example Page :
Keyword to target - "If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special."
We can see it has been indexed by Google but is now not ranking in the top 250 search engine results. We have run the On Page Grader from SEOMoz and it ranks the page as an "A" so we suspect that we are doing the SEO ok on the page, but can't work out why it isn't ranking, despite ranking on the first or second page after a few days ?
We have other pages that aren't SEO optimised that rank better than our newly SEO optimised pages e.g.
Keyword - "THE BEST LOVE IS THE KIND THAT AWAKENS THE SOUL AND MAKES US REACH FOR MORE, THAT PLANTS A FIRE IN OUR HEARTS AND BRINGS PEACE TO OUR MINDS. AND THAT'S WHAT YOU'VE GIVEN ME. THAT'S WHAT I'D HOPED TO GIVE YOU FOREVER"
URL: http://www.getinspired365.com/20130528
Any advice you could offer would be great.
Thanks !

Hi Mike,
I would suggest you add both versions of your website to the search console (i.e. www and non-www) and then set your preference to whichever you like, so that Google knows which one your prefer to be the main domain.
I would also suggest shortening the URL, because it does look too long. Maybe you'd want to put the author of the quote instead of the actual quote or shorten the quote somehow. I'm pretty sure that you guys may publish some quotes with even more characters in the future which is going to be even longer than the existing one. Hence, I would rethink the URL structure.
In regards to the rankings, don't worry just now as it really takes several weeks to get updated.
Many Thanks,
Dima

Hi Dima,
Thanks for the comments - we're in the process of optimising the whole site from an SEO perspective and the only pages we have optimised at present are these type. We plan in the coming days and weeks on optimising the rest of the site to make sure it is correctly setup for SEO.
We'll look at introducing a sitemap, so that all our pages are included there. We've got a search console account however presently only have the www.getinspired365.com and NOT getinspired365.com - do you think we need both ?
If you look at http://www.getinspired365.com/if-you-laugh-you-think-and-you-cry-thats-a-full-day-thats-a-heck-of-a-day-you-do-that-seven-days-a-week-youre-going-to-have-something-special this is one of our optimised SEO pages. We've done some reading that we might need shorter URL's ?
Thanks again for the feedback.

Hi,
That a is pretty long-tail keywords there.
How long ago did you guys optimise your pages/website? If it is just few day, don't panic. Google may take several weeks to identify the change on your website and rank it appropriately. Do you guys have a search console account set up? If not, set one up and submit your sitemap with all the new pages (it may help Google to identify those pages quicker).
Also, I can see that your home page title is: "A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life." Are you trying to rank for this specific quote or for keywords like "inspirational quotes" etc.? Page title is one of the important factors for Google to identify the relevance of the website.
I think your Meta Description is too short, you might want to extend it a little bit. Also, I couldn't see any H1 and your image aren't optimised (Google doesn't read images so it is important that your alt text to describe the image). Maybe add some more content to our website as well.
I would suggest going through your pages again, and then submit a sitemap to search console.
Hope that helps.
Dima

Index problems
“The website http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/nl/ does not show in the index of Google (site:vaneyckshutters.com/nl/). This must be the homepage in the Netherlands. Previously, the page www.vaneyckshutters.com was redirected to /nl/. This page is accessible now with a canonical tag to http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/nl/ in the hope to let /nl/ be indexed. When we look at the SERPS for keyword ‘shutters’, the page http://www.vaneyckshutters.com/ is shown in Google.nl on #32 and in Belgium #3. Problem & question: Why is it that /nl/ has not been indexed properly and why is it that we rank with http://www.vaneyckshutters.com on ‘shutters’ instead the/nl/ page?”

Mobile site not ranking
Hello, I have a m.site.com version of my original site. It is about 1/10 the size, and no matter what I do-I can't get the site to rank. I've added more pages and specified canonical etc etc. Should I add as many pages as my larger site has? Are there specific places I should be submitting this version beyond the typical? I am at a loss, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! L

Drastic increase of indexed pages correlated to rankings loss?
Our ecommerce website has had a drastic increase in indexed pages, and equal loss of Google organic traffic. After 10/1 the number of indexed pages jumped from 240k to 5.7 million by the end of the year, according to GWT. Coincidentally, the sitemap tops at 14,192 pages, with 13,324 indexed. Organic traffic on some top keyphrases began declining by half after 10/26 and ranking (previously placing in the top 5 spots) has dropped to the fifth page of results. This website does produce session id's (/c=) so we been blocking /c=/ in the robots.txt file. We also have a rel=canonical on all pages pointing at the correct url. With all of this in place, traffic hasn't recovered. Is there a correlation between this spike of indexed pages and the lost keyword ranking? Any advice to investigate and correct this further would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Duplicate content issue index.html vs non index.html
Hi I have an issue. In my client's profile, I found that the "index.html" are mostly authoritative than non "index.html", and I found that www. version is more authoritative than non www. The problem is that I find the opposite situation where non "index.html" are more authoritative than "index.html" or non www more authoritative than www. My logic would tell me to still redirect the non"index.html" to "index.html". Am I right? and in the case I find the opposite happening, does it matter if I still redirect the non"index.html" to "index.html"? The same question for www vs non www versions? Thank you
