Adult dating site. How can I get people to share content on facebook or google plus..
-
I am working on http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com an adult dating review website. I want to build a presence on social networks so have set up twitter, google plus, and a facebook page. As I understand it retweets, like, shares etc... Play a significant part in seo. Therefore I want to get as many shares etc as possible. My initial idea was to create a fan page on facebook and pay to promote it on facebook gaining likes on the fan page. Will likes on the fan page impact the main site? I would imagine not? However I can see how someone visiting the main site and liking a post would have a positive effect on rankings. The problem I've come into is facebook won't run the ads as the page is adult so they won't accept paid ads. If I add a post to the facebook page how can I get it in front of people to share or like it? Equally how can I get google plus shares? I'm new to social and am unsure of how I should proceed? Especially as facebook considers the page adult. Finally how important is social. I've read it can get short term wins and optimised posts can appear at the top of search results but don't stay there long. Link building is still the long term strategy?

Greetings Samuel,
Good question I would seek to create content that is not strictly adult related but more about the benefits that are possible such as happier love life, finding new relationships and create content around these ideas. You have to play very carefully within Google+, Pinterest and Facebook as they are more than happy to shut down any accounts that get enough reports for sharing inappropriate or self promotional content.
Also Facebook will likely flag your ads for review and may not even allow you to run them so buying Facebook likes via their Advertising platform may not be an option. Content will be the long term strategy....

I think this is a good article on the benefit of social sharing: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/new-data-the-correlations-between-social-sharing-and-inbound-links at least from an academic POV.
Something I try to keep in mind is that it's kind of all relative. Social matters if it's where your audience is, since even though there is some SEO benefit, it's still about the end user and finding where they are. That's why you'd have a fan page, for them. I wouldn't set up a FB page if your goal is to try to impact your main site - you may not get enough traffic to make it worthwhile and suddenly you have to manage the page, too.
I think a challenge you have is the user being comfortable having an association with adult/dating content visible or tied to their own personal social network connections. This could be a significant barrier (I am speculating; personally, this happens to be an area I wouldn't want my social network to see so I wouldn't like a dating or adult page or share any of its content). G+ isn't too different. So you'd have to look at how to position your site and content in away to overcome that.
My suggestion would be to read up more on social and the benefits to see if it fits with your audience, strategy and long term objectives. Link building is still also a good part of a SEO plan, but like anything how you go about it matters (using best practices, avoiding black hat, etc.).

Google+ Cover Photo Question
I am trying to set up a Google+ profile for a client with multiple locations. My design team came up with nice cover photos for each page, using the dimensions that Google recommends (a 16:9 ratio, max. 2120x1192), but parts of my cover photo keep getting cut off. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and do you know what size we should REALLY be using? Thanks!

Fetch for Google
Hi there! A short question from Holland: My developers made a mistake with a template on a subpage in Wordpress. When Google crawled my site again, Google found an empty page. The same day we loosed our #1 position on the main keyword and now we are on position #6. We restored the page the same day and asked Google to recrawl the page again (fetch for Google). But 48 hours later nothing changed. When I look in the cache date' the page still has the old date, while my competition has a newer cache date. We send some traffic to the page and did some facebook post on this page. Does anybody knows how to kickstart this page again?

Using BUFFER in Social Sharing
Hello everyone, I am inclining to use a platform from which to post my social content. I use mainly facebook, twitter, linked in, google +. I used Hoot, but found it difficult to include Linked In, and several other social media sites. Somebody has experience using BUFFER? Ive read about it, and it seems great! Would you recommend it? Thanks for your comments,

Getting more fans on Facebook
Does anyone have any tips or experience on how they increased their Facebook fan base? I work in the oil/fuel industry and getting people to like your Facebook page is quite difficult because our customers are mostly middle-aged men, who if statistics are to be believed aren't the most active on social media anyway. I've been doing regular posts for the past couple of weeks, liking other pages and joining conversations but don't seem to be getting any increase in followers. Does anyone have any advice, ideas or examples of what you did that worked? Thanks

Does promoting a new page on twitter/facebook help it get indexed faster?
I know this probably won't matter much to people who get crawled on a regular basis, but for those of us who don't, does promoting a new page on social media help it get indexed faster with google? My site rarely gets crawled, but I've recently been adding new content. When I add new content I started to promote it on facebook/twitter and I do get minimal traffic from it. I noticed that a couple of the pages seem to be indexing quicker than pages normally do for me, although I'm not sure if it's because I recently migrated to WP or what..? I know T/FB are no follow sites, but is there a chance that promoting a page may contribute to the pages getting indexed? Thanks for any insight you can shed on the matter. It's more for curiosities sake than anything else. Pete S.

Facebook Like Wall
Here is a Facebook question: I would like to hide some content behind a Facebook wall - i.e. only make it visible to users who press the like button. Something like the New Yorker did with a Jonathan Franzen story. My question is: how do I do that? Thanks! Thomas

Facebook Shares and the rel="canonical" tag
We use canonical tags for multipart videos, using part 1 of the series as their canonical tag. The logic behind this is that if you have eight parts, it's better for part 1 to get all the link juice for the entire series, so that when someone searches for the main keyword, part 1 is the highest ranked part to appear in search results, and the link juice from every part is aggregated into that one page. The problem is the Facebook made changes to their URL sharing practices to reflect the canonical tag. So as long as the tag is used Facebook ignores the image and description from say part 2, and uses the description from part 1. Can this be waived by using Facebook Open Graph Protocol? Thanks!!
