Should my Google rank be different to actual SERP results?
-
In my reports this week I was delighted to see "emergency power" at #8 for http://apexgenerators.co.uk/emergency-power/ but then today seems to have jumped to page 4 in SERPS?
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks,
Laura

Thanks for that ... the site was redone about 5 months ago so maybe that is the reason for low page rank.
Great - like the sound of the SERP dance
Will keep up back linking and hopefully stablises at 8! Laura

Thanks for your help, it may be that ... although thinking just taking a couple of weeks to stablise?
Thanks.

The SERPs change all the time these days. It could be due to a change in the search algorithm, changes to your site or competitors sites, new links to your site, personalisation, a change in geographical location - it could even be that the sites around you haven't had an up-to-date crawl, or vice-versa. Sometimes ranks take a while to stabalise if they're new pages or keywords.
And other factors. Even just within personalisation, if you clicked a result at position 8 and didn't press 'back', Google could favour that result next time you return and so rank it higher...or personalisation could be down to people in your circles if you use Google+.
Apologies if you knew all that already and I haven't got the gist of your question.

Currently your site has a pagerank of 0, although it is over 2 years old. However, if this is a new keyword that you just started ranking for then sometimes you do what I refer to as the "Serp dance" where it will take about 2 to 3 weeks to stabilize. The only recommendation is keep doing your back linking for that keyword until the rankings stabilize. However, it might be slow because of your page rank, unless there is little competition for the keyword.
Also, be aware that because "emergency power" is a broad keyword there could be a tremendous amount of competition that have that keyword and variations of it of which you are competing with. I hope this helps.

Keyword Ranking
I would like to understand how to search for all instances where Johansens is on the 1st page of Google (US/UK) for any keywords that have Portugal, Lisbon or Algarve in them i.e. "luxury hotels portugal". Is there an easy/automated way to do such a search? Many thanks for your support, Doug

Google and connector words
Hello and straight to the point, How does google treat connector words (the, in, on etc) in relation to keywords ? For example if people are searching for "hardware sydney" but the content on the page uses the phrase "hardware in sydney" does this make a difference to the way Google views the page content? Cheers David.

Ranking a homepage for keywords
We recently found a handful of keywords we would like our homepage to rank for (for example - customer experience). On our homepage we have articles (4-5 posted daily) that feature the keywords we are targeting (one being customer experience). How do the keywords we are using in our daily articles that are posted to the homepage affect the overall keyword ranking for the homepage? In other words do the keywords used in the articles (title, first 2-3 paragraphs, meta description, etc.) all roll up/build up to the homepage's keywords or how does that work?

Google Keyword Estimator
Hello Does the Google traffic estimator include the impact of instant? For example, if I type the phrase "London restaurant", instant may provide a list of search results for the phrase "London restaurant guide" prior to me confirming whether or not I just want to search using the phrase "London restaurant". Is this registered in any way as a search for the phrase "London restaurant guide" (i.e. does Instant impact upon the search volumes presented in the Google traffic estimator)? In addition, is there any up to date assessment on how reliable the revised traffic estimator is? The tool currently suggests that for a well known brand we are working for does not have any search volume (over a whole year) for the brand keyphrase when used in isolation (there is traffic for various combinations of the brand and a generic term). However, as one would expect, our analytics data is showing that there are in excess of 1 million annual visitors that use the brand keyphrase in isolation to access the website via natural search and nearly 1.5 million via PPC. Is anyone else getting these problems? Thanks in advance for any assistance. Rgds Neil
