Is it possible that Google is pulling description from third party websites and displaying in the description section in organic result?
-
Hi all,
I have come across the most weird situation ever in my SEO career.
Google is displaying description in organic results for brand term under the website URL that doesnt exist on the website ANYWHERE but this description does appear on some directory sites created back in 2002 or so.
Is there a possibility that Google is pulling info from directory sites and displaying as a description in the organic results?
I am super confused!
Help needed!
Thanks

Thanks. I think the content on page is pretty good and strong as we have just done an upgrade of the website. Just recently Google decided to show this description from DMOZ.

awesome thanks!

Here is a thread about the DMOZ/Open Directory project that ViviCa1 mentioned. [A lot of people are trying to get into DMOZ but can't, you should be happy you have the link.
]
One thing you could look at though is why does Google think that the directory description is the best one to return?
Check and see whether you can improve the descriptive content on the actual site. [At one point I got two new sites to work on, both in DMOZ, the rich, active one returned site-appropriate information, the long-neglected one returned the directory description.]

Yes, this can happen but you can ask Google not to use the description from a directory such as DMOZ by using the "noodp" meta robot tag:

Google overriding meta description - retrospective?
Hi all, we run a furniture store and our results in Google.co.uk almost always use the page's content as the description in the search results, even though we have a correctly implemented meta description tag. The rival's pages that rank above and below us almost always show the ranking page's meta description in Google's results page. Our developer seems to think it's because we added the meta description tags long after the pages were first indexed by Google and he seems to think Google has "fixed" on the page content and is happy with that over our meta description ...but I've never heard of that before. Thank you.

Has anyone ever seen Google truncating the beginning of a meta description on a mobile device?
I could not find any articles or mentions of this online, and I am wondering if it has to do with the website being an "m-dot" website and not responsive. Any thoughts would be appreciated! IaZJWB2

Google don't index .ee version of a website
Hello, We have a problem with our clients website .ee. This website was developed by another company and now we don't know what is wrong with it. If i do a Google search "site:.ee" it only finds konelux.ee homepage and nothing else. Also homepage title tag and meta dec is in Finnish language not in Estonian language. If i look at .ee/robots.txt it looks like robots.txt don't block Google access. Any ideas what can be wrong here? BR, T

Something I noticed in the Google news section, what is it?
I've noticed something like a quote whilst I was doing a search in News section. Does anyone know what is it called? Is it some sort of microdata or something you can manipulate or is it up to Google's algorithm to determine whether or not to display the section and the content of it. The section in question is highlighted in the attached image. Thanks in advance! MqdoW MqdoW.png

How to remove "Results 1 - 20 of 47" from Google SERP Snippet
We are trying to optimise our SERP snippet in Google to increase CTR, but we have this horrid "Results 1 - 20 of 47" in the description. We feel this gets in the way of the message and so wish to remove it, but how?? Any ideas apart from removing the paging from the page?
