Social profile links - markup not working
-
Hi all,
Weeks ago, I implemented the advised social profile markup (below, but with my own details, of course) but I continue to have no success with getting my social profiles onto my knowledge panel. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Rhys

SwanseaMedicine,
That looks fine to me. The syntax used on our site puts a space between the colon ":" and the bracket "[" as in:
"sameAs": ["https://www.facebook.com/SwanseaMedicine/",
But I don't think it matters, especially if the markup checker said everything was fine. More than likely it's just going to take some time and persistence on your part. Here are some things you can work toward in the meantime:
If you don't have a WIkipedia page begin researching what it takes to get one, and hire a professional Wiki editor to help. You can find them on may freelancer websites by doing a search for Wiki or Wikipedia.
Build as many high quality citations as you can for the Swansea University Medical School from data hubs that may be used by Google to create Knowledge Graph boxes and other rich info in the SERPs. Here's a partial list in the attached image at:

Hi both,
This is the markup I've used -
I've put it into a markup checker, and it seems to be fine. Could it be a case that I simply need to highlight it to Google as kindly suggested by Everett?

If you're not logged into the account associated with that entity they probably won't be very responsive. If you were logged into the right account it shouldn't take more than a few days. I did this twice myself for another entity.
Either way, I hope you get it sorted out. The way Google handles this stuff is extremely frustrating.

Thank you all; very helpful. Not sure whether it is what Dr Meyers said, and we merely lack authority etc (this has mostly been done in the past 3 months), because I've also implemented a markup for our courses.
In answer to Gianluca, yes that is the correct business. Have I implemented the wrong markup? Have I used person not organisation? Thank you for the links, very thoughtful!
Thanks Everett, I have tried the feedback but I find they don't pay much attention to it - similarly, I've tried emailing google a number of times and don't get a response. Less than helpful!
thank you all for your kind response!

Just adding to the great answer above, if you are logged into the Google account associated with that Knowledge Graph (such as the one used for Google Local listings / Google+) and click on the "Feedback" link in grey at the bottom of the KG box it will allow you to suggest edits for various fields, including social profiles.
You can also provide feedback in the same exact way without being logged into the account, but I don't think it would have nearly as much success at getting added for all to see.

Apart what Dr Pete already said in his answer - I suspect that you are talking about the Knowledge Graph box of the Swansea University Medical School (https://www.google.es/search?num=100&q=Swansea+Medicine&spell=1&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwibqcuu7vjPAhWRSxoKHfScCOkQBQgbKAA&biw=1397&bih=911).
If this is the case, then the correct schema.org type should be "Organization" and not "Person".
A good guide can be found here: https://builtvisible.com/micro-data-schema-org-guide-generating-rich-snippets/#organization.
On the other hand, if you are talking of a personal knowledge graph box, it would be useful for us to know your name and have a snapshot of the KGraph Box, so to investigate better your case

I'm trying to get a second opinion (since I'm not an expert on this markup), but the tough part on these is that the markup is only half the battle. Google's decision to display the social profiles is a bit more complex and may depend on authority, query intent, and other "brand"-like factors. It's possible to be doing nothing wrong, technically, and still not get those options in you Knowledge Panel.

Places.SinglePlatform.com "Menu" links on your GMB listing?
I just experienced this and after lots of frustration was able to figure out how it happened and how to fix it (keep reading). **HOW: **So apparently Google did a deal with Constant Contact which owns Singleplatform.com that allows them to publish edits to ANY local business and they have used this to SPAM entire categories of local businesses by adding in a "Appointments" and/or "Menu" link to the Google My Business listing for search/maps and they have done it in such a way that it is extremely difficult to remove/fix. (NOTE: they are not listed in Google's list of 3rd parties which automatically add info to your listing....https://www.google.com/maps/reserve/partners) **THE PROBLEM: You have a link to a menu or appointment page that you did not add and can not edit. **The options for setting a URL for "Menu" and/or "Appointment" (and a few others https://support.google.com/business/answer/6218037) are tied to the Primary Category set on your GMB listing and are only available to certain categories. FIXING: You would think if you are a verified owner of your GMB listing, it would be simple - but Google/SInglePlatform.com have gone to great lengths to make it more difficult.... Step 1 - Make sure you are a verified owner of GMB listing Step 2 - Change your Primary category on the business to one of the categories which supports the link in question (no definitive list, but I know setting Primary to "Restaurant" will get you Menu and "Interior Designer" will get you an Appointment link) Step 3 - Save the new category Step 4 - Now you will have the option under your "URLs" section of GMB listing. Step 5 - Change the URL from the SPAMMY link to a relevant page you control and Save Step 6 - Change Primary Category back to what you want.

Why would a website link disappear from a Google Place listing?
Hi, a local non-profit recently re-branded their name from MacDonald Center to Maybelle Center. When they updated their business information their website link disappeared. They've updated from within and dashboard to no avail. We've requested edits/updates via Google Map maker but it says Denied. Here's a URL for the SERP result. Note the button for "website" would normally appear by the button for "directions" https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome-psyapi2&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8&q=maybelle center portland&oq=maybelle center portland&aqs=chrome..69i57j69i59j69i61.4316j0j7 Can someone please explain why this is happening and how we can fix it? They are a great community organization who's about to receive some media coverage and we'd really appreciate it if users hearing about the group be able to easily access their new website. They are aware of their duplicate listings but, typical of non-profits, have limited time and funds so are prioritizing to address more urgent issues first. However, I don't believe duplicate listings would cause such an issue but please let me know if I'm wrong here

Do Citations help will all local rankings/Pages on my website or just the page it's linked to
Hi All, My ecommerce site has different category/landing pages for each of my branches . I'm currently getting some more citations done as wondered the following Is it a general rule to say, that the more citations you have the better as long as they are consistent and free? Given that I have different categories /landing pages showing the NAP of my individual branches along with unique content, should all these extra citations help with local rankings across my whole site or is it usually just helping the specific localized webpage it's pointing to ? I can get a company to help me do my citations but to do all the branches, it is going to be quite expensive. Is citations quite a big individual SEO factor in local search as opposed to on page seo factors etc etc. Any advice greatly appreciated. thanks Peter

What is the optimum number of links on a page?
I have a local content based website which gives information of services under different categories and subcategories in a segment across multiple localities. Our menu is found across all pages and the menu has about 150 different links to sub-categories and categories. On any listings page that comes up, when you choose a particular category or sub-category, we have another 100 links relating to the individual listings in addition to the menu which is consistent across all pages. Is this a problem?

Is my Structured Data working?
Hello Everyone, I had previously added Structured Data for reviews for my product pages, which worked, and has slightly bumped up CTRs. Now, I am trying to get dates and locations to show up in the SERPs (Products are classes). Google's Structured Data Testing Tool shows that the data is being read without any errors, but I cannot seem to get them to show up in the preview (or actual SERPs). https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cleanedison.com%2Fcourses%2Fentry-level-solar-energy-training%2F If anyone could take a look and let me know if there is anything obvious I missed, it would be much appreciated. Thanks
