Organic Brand Clicks/Traffic Drop - Why?
-
Hi Moz Community,
I've been reviewing Search Console and have been noticing that there has been a consistent drop in brand clicks. The overall number of keywords (especially for the top 2 pages) have been increasing, according to SEMRUSH, however, traffic and sales are still in decline.
There are no algorithmic and manual penalties, in addition, paid search activity has been increasing in the leadup to Christmas.
Has anyone experienced this and potentially advise how to diagnose and resolve this issue?

Ah, so you mean brand terms as in the brands that you carry, not your own? Those are fairly large brands that sell through a number of sites, so you have a large competitive base.
You are seeing the number of different queries rise, but your traffic to the page in question is falling. I would take that to mean that the brand head terms are where you are losing the traffic. You're pulling in longer tail phrases but not enough to recover from the lose of traffic on head terms.
I doubt display has anything to do with this, it sounds like a pure SEO problem. However, with so many brand focuses at such a high level of competition, it is going to be hard to pinpoint what is wrong without an in depth SEO review. I can't provide that to you, but you might look into engaging with someone to do some in depth reviews of the traffic to your brand pages over time to pinpoint the drop started to happen, what changes might have occurred on page to create a change in relevance of the page, if there are new entrants to the market pushing your results down, or if there are any penalties or algorithmic issues with your site that might be impacting the site overall. Those are good places to start.
Best of luck, I know this industry well. Another Kate Morris runs Adore Beauty, so I've kept an eye on this field for a long time.

Hi Kate,
You've interpreted my question slightly differently, but it still helps. Firstly the site is The site is facialco.com.au
You are correct in that the brand terms are seeing less clicks and that impressions are improving.
Brand category pages have recently seen a slide in rankings from page 1 i.e. dermalogica, alpha- h despite seeing an overall improvement in the number of keywords from SEMRUSH and this is what helped with traffic and sales along with the lions share coming from the homepage.
I have considered about paid search cannibilization, however, accounts are linked correctly and for November we have seen improvement in organic traffic (although down 30% year on year). There is more display search activity taking place - would this be a factor?
-
Let me rephrase to make sure I have this right.
Using Search Console you are seeing clicks to terms with your brand in them dropping. Clicks, but not impressions. When you check SEMRush, there isn't a drop in the term's collective demand. However, your analytics shows the same traffic decline that Search Console shows and you are also seeing a sales decline.
You mention that your paid search for these terms is converting well and you are seeing more traffic there?
Have you considered that your paid search is cannibalizing your organic traffic?
If I am misunderstanding, please let me know. The more you can share about the terms you are seeing declines for, the better the problem can be diagnosed.
Thanks!

Why is Google appending a different website's brand name to the end of SERP title?
I've recently been shown some SERP results where Google is appending a different website's brand name to the end of the SERP title. It's actually rewriting the brand's name to that of the other website. (This is obviously not ideal.) Why would this be? The other website doesn't even stock the same product, so there shouldn't be any confusion there. But even if it did, many websites stock the same products. Just confusing...

Two companies merging into a new website. How to merge two existing websites into a brand new website and preserve search rankings.
Brand A and Brand B are merging to form Brand C. Brand A has a great search presence (prominent rankings, answer boxes, and impressive organic traffic). Brand B has a good reputation in real life but their web presence was extremely weak (we've been helping with that over the past few months and it is improving). What are the steps we need to take? The previous domains from Brand A and Brand B are going away and we need to promote the newly minted Brand C website. This Q/A summarizes what we want to do but with one exception: They only discuss merging Brand A into BRand B and there is no Brand C.

Site Architecture for Sub-Brands
I am working on launching a few industry specific sub-brands for our marketing agency and am trying to figure out the best way to deliver a tailored user experience using subfolders instead of subdomains, if this is indeed the best option... Since I am trying to provide separate experiences, I looking at housing microsites in sub-folders - say /technology or /medical. Each with its own navigation, home page, and industry specific content/blog/portfolio. A couple things I am considering: Will my microsite "home pages" and site pages rank as well in a sub-folder versus if they were actually the primary pages on their own sub-domain? Will separate Wordpress and theme installs and separate primary navigations have any affect on SEO if they are in sub-folders of the same site? Thanks in advance for any input. I really appreciate it!

Spam in search engine results for company brand name
Hi, I'm having a strange problem with a certain comapny. When you Google their brand name the first 8 results or so are related - their site, Google+ page, Twitter etc. The rest of the results are completely unrelated to the site and much of it is in another language and looks really spammy. According to the site owner until recently the first 50-60 results were related - mostly local results, press releases, and franchise companies listing his business. They don't have a great link profile but that shouldn't have them dropping out of the results, especially since they're still ranking in the top 1-8 positions. Here's the strangest part: the company name is Libertana. All the spammy results are not so much spammy, they're related to the syllable "na". Examples: Ivanyukite-Na Mineral Data įt$koka!na's sounds on SoundCloud - Hear the world's sounds Bosiniya na Herizegovina - Wikipedia What on earth is going on? Why would they rank for the last syllable of their name?

Should I remove spaces from my brand name?
I'm looking for some second opinions on this one. In talking with another SEO, he is of the opinion that if my company name is two words like Crazy Man, I should write some news release that have my brand combined as Crazyman because it is a variant of the brand name. He claims that Google does not look at my brand as Crazy Man, but as one word and in Google's mind Crazyman as one word is my brand. What do you all think?

Organic Traffic from irrelevant keywords in GA?
Hi, I am doing SEO for a website that deals in 4-wheeler tyres. While reviewing the organic traffic in Google Analytics, i noticed some keywords that are completely irrelevant to the theme of the website. Some are porn related terms while some are like google, yahoo, laptops, youtube etc. It seems someone is doing negative SEO for my website, as a result of which a decent number of searches are coming from these irrelevant terms. What should i do to block traffic from such terms as this may harm my website's performance in search engines. Please suggest a solution as soon as possible.

Please see exactly what I mean here: http://screencast.com/t/GKjwliZ6GTF7 I'm looking for your experience of CTR of other websites in the same situation. Do you have similar low CTR? Some background info; The website is no1 for the brandname. Sitelinks are shown. Google Maps is shown on right. In the period are no adwords advertisments on my brand name as I know.
