Giving to Charities in exchange for a backlink is a Paid Link. What about links from real charitable donations?
-
What if my client already donates to charities? They've been donating for years before I thought to conduct linking outreach to their charities... can Google distinguish between honest charitable giving and charity link schemes?

We have connections to Barnardo's as a 'Professional Fundraising Group', meaning we support Barnardos monthly by donating/fundraising via just giving or simply sharing the name. We have had a link on their website for quite a while now, but we do ensure we post blogs updating on our achievements with the charity to make it as relevant as possible.

I've never heard of anyone being penalized for sponsorship links. I mean if you think about it everything would be a paid link. If an organization pays an employee to run white hat link building, then are those paid links because the person receives a salary? I think you are fine. Sponsorship links are an excellent way to engage in the local community and receive a link for your efforts.

Hi Christian,
Good advice from EGOL. Your question raises an issue the Local SEO community, in particular, needs to look into further, as we tend to look at sponsorships as good sources of links. That being said, you'll see discussion like this in the general SEO industry:
https://www.seroundtable.com/google-chrome-bought-a-paid-link-for-350-000-21690.html
So, this is an area I believe needs further research to define exactly how Google views links from sponsorships.

I'll take domain mentions any day.
Here's an article on Moz...
https://moz.com/blog/panda-patent-brand-mentions
Lots of people make gifts to get their biz name on a brick, get their biz name on a plaque, get their biz name on a race car, get their biz name on the outfield wall, get their biz name on a huge sports arena - or a building or a law school. So there is nothing wrong with giving a gift to the library and having your domain - the name of your biz - listed on a webpage. If they charge you more to link it then its a paid link, if they don't charge you for the link its not paid. You should make the gift for the purpose of doing good, not for the link.
-
But I wouldn't want to be penalized for getting a "paid link".
Without the link, is there actually value in having them reference your domain in plain text? A domain mention, as you called it.
-
Ask if the gift can be acknowledged on the website as "The staff at YourDomain.com"
Who knows, they might link it for you.
-
I've never heard of that. What would I have to do to make that happen? Thank you.
-
You can give to charities and use your domain name as the donor. That will get you a domain mention, which some people believe to have value, but is safer than a link.

Effective Real Estate SEO Strategies
I am looking to increase organic traffic to our Real Estate website, and am looking for any suggestions and or feedback as to strategies to implement in this area or even the must-have SEO pages every real-estate business should build. Interested in attracting sellers & buyers, but obviously would love more to attract sellers... The issue with that being you have to outrank the massive sites like Zillow and Realtor. Some ideas I have so far. Building out Neighbourhood pages to rank for people searching for 'Neighbourhood name' Any feedback on this one greatly appreciate. What's {city name} like? {Neighbourhood name} houses for sale What are good areas of {city name} Is {city name} a good place to live? What's {city name} like? What __ are in {city name} restaraunts hospitals beaches colleges How is {city names} weather Thanks guys!

Outbound Links for Local SEO
I am working on building an area guide page for a local hotel website. The hotel itself has a lot to offer in forms of on-site entertainment and they are concerned about sending people away from their website (and their business). However, it's also important to write about the area and local attractions in close proximity to their hotel for many reasons, including building local authority. Is there any benefit to adding links to the Google My Business/map listing of the local attractions? Or can we just simply not include external links?

Importance of backlinks from legal indexes such as avvo for lawyers
I have a client who is a general practice Lawyer. This particular client refuses to acquire free profiles from legal sites such as AVVO, Super Lawyers, and Justia. I have been working with this client for a year and have had a tough time getting him to rank in an ultra competitive marketplace. The other law clients I handle have all secured these backlinks and traffic is produced, domain and page authority is much higher. My client say that he has heard from other lawyers that sites like AVVO produce bad or little results, so he wants no part of them. I feel these lawyers are giving him bad advice. They are competitors and each of them have their profiles on these sites. I thought I would get some thoughts from the community to maybe help back my thoughts on these particular back links. Thanks

Find high DA link opportunities in your local area
Hi, part of my link building strategy is ideally going to be from outreach to local businesses. I run a local service business operating in multiple locations (with no physical base). I have created local landing pages on which I'm showcasing local businesses and photographers (relevant not in terms of industry but location). Its my intention to show off their business as best I can, then get in touch to say "hey, we love what you're doing with X product/service, check out our site here [link]. We'd love it if you could link to us etc etc". Assuming that this is a valid strategy, what is the best way to find locally relevant sites with the highest domain authority?

Why does Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) gives different results than a Google search for a very similar or identical query?
My client Dr. Harris ranks #1 in SERPs and Local results for many terms, including "hair transplant surgeon Denver" However, when I did a voice search w Siri ""find me a hair transplant surgeon in Denver" Siri said she could find no results. A similar search for a clinic returned 2 competitors, but not my client. How do I ensure we are served up in voice queries? This surgeon deserves it, he invented most of the technology in use in the world today.

Backlinking for small service oriented websites
I am a newby to the SEO world. We are a graphic/web design/development company that has been pulled into the SEO world. We work for a lot of clients that are sensing the need for websites but they don't have the capital to invest in a large website. So after building simple sites for them they come to us wanting to be ranked better in the SERPS. I can go through and do the basics of meta tag info but with small sites, there isn't a lot you can do. I feel I need to learn to do backlinking but am completely lost. When I read about backlinks a lot of people talk about blogging websites, not service industry websites. Does anyone have tips to learn backlinking for small service companies that want to target their local area? loggers, woodworking shops, landscape companies, cabinet shops, home cleaners, bulk food stores, etc. I'm interested in maybe blogposts, or tutorials to read/watch, or software to help me out, etc. Thanks in advance for your help!

Google+ for Business Links Section - Not Available
I haven't found any documentation on this - curious if anyone's noticed that Google+ Local Listings (i.e. brick-n-mortar shops) don't have access to a Links section like a "brand" page might? Seems strange not to let them link out to their social media assets while Coke and Ford have that privilege. I wonder why? Thanks!

Is my link structure hurting my SEO?
Moz says I have too many links on the homepage - could this be hurting my SEO? I have a lot of links on my homepage - especially from the services menu. I also have a few in the intro paragraph that are unnecessary but are linked to other pages using keywords - such as "veterinarians" which go to Meet our Veterinarians, etc. I'm afraid to make changes as I don't want to go overboard and actually hurt our rankings further. Any thoughts on this? Brant
