Inner pages of a directory site wont index
-
I have a business directory site thats been around a long time but has always been split into two parts, a subdomain and the main domain. The subdomain has been used for listings for years but just recently Ive opened up the main domain and started adding listings there.
The problem is that none of the listing pages seem to be betting indexed in Google. The main domain is indexed as is the category page and all its pages below that eg /category/travel but the actual business listing pages below that will not index. I can however get them to index if I request Google to crawl them in search console.
A few other things:
I have nothing blocked in the robots.txt file
The site has a DA over 50 and a decent amount of backlinks
There is a sitemap setup also
any ideas?

Great! I'll mark this as resolved then.

Hi Craig,
All the old content is still on the sub-domain, none of this content is on the new domain though so there shouldnt be duplicate content issues.
Im not sure tbh, probably leaving the old sub domain as is, already I redirect the sign-up/submisisons page to the new domain so new content will go there.
I should add that the sub-domain is hosted on a different server.
I had forgotten about this thread actually and just done a quick check and it seems that all but 1-2 recent postings are indexed now so Im guessing it was just taking some time for Google to crawl the site properly?

Hi Mark,
What have you done with all the old content on the sub-domain? Is the plan to move everything to a sub-folder or are you going to have some in both places? Also, is the content on the sub-folder different to the sub-domain or are you just moving content?

..and actually just done another check and it seems that 5/6 of the most recent listings are all indexed fine and this is without me doing anything, I have no idea why one of them isnt though, nothing is different on that page plus its the oldest out of the 6 and all of them are featured and linked to from the homepage so page rank should be flowing directly to them...

Hi Michael,
Sorry for the delayed response, no the inner pages arent setup to be nofollowed or no indexed, they all have canonicals pointing back to themself which I think is correct right?
-
Do you have the links set to your listings set to nofollow or the actual listing pages set to noindex? Are their canonicals set on them pointing back to a main page? There are a number of technical reasons that could cause this problem, but it is hard to say without seeing the site or code.

How to setup an iFrame to be indexed as the parent site
Hi, we are trying to move all of our website content from www.mysite.com to a subdomain (i.e. content.mysite.com), and make "www.mysite.com" nothing more than an iFrame displaying the content from content.mysite.com. We have about 10 pages linking from the home page, all indexed separately, so I understand we'll have to do this for every one of them. (www.mysite.com/contact will be an iframe containing the content from content.mysite.com/contact, and we'll need to do this for every page) How do we do this so Google continues to index the content hosted at content.mysite.com with the parent page in organic results (www.mysite.com). We want all users to enter the site through www.mysite.com or www.mysite.com/xxxxxx, which will contain no content except for iFrames pulling in content from content.mysite.com. Our fear is that google will start directing users directly to content.mysite.com, rather than continue feeding to www.mysite.com. If we use www1.mysite.com or www2.mysite.com as the location of the content, instead of say content.mysite.com, would these subdomain names work better for passing credit for the iFramed content to the parent page (www.mysite.com)? Thanks! SIDE NOTE: Before someone asks why we need to do this, the content on mysite.com ranks very well, but site has a huge bounce rate due to a poorly designed CMS serving the content. The CMS does not load the page in pieces (like most pages load), but instead presents the visitor with a 100% blank page while the page loads in the background for about 5-10 seconds, and then boom 100% of the page shows up. We've been back and forth with our CMS provider about doing something about this for 5 years now, and we have given up. We tested moving our adwords links to xyz.mysite.com, where users are immediately shown a loading indicator, with our site (www.mysite.com) behind it in an iFrame. The immediate result was resounding success... our bounce rate PLUMMETED, and the root domain www.mysite.com saw a huge boost in search results. Problem with this is our site still comes up in organic results as www.mysite.com, which does not have any kind of spinning disk loading indicator, and still has a very high bounce rate.

Why google removed my landing pages from index?
I made new website meko.lv. I put many work to it, to make page SEO friendly, sprites, reduced requests added SSL, got google page speed insights score 100/100, but in 2. october all pages in google webmasters disappeared from index. Could you please look at website and say whats wrong with it? They are all search results present in google but for how long. it is so annoying, you put so many work but in result get high spam score. It is obvious that new pages can not get good links in one month https://meko.lv/ google webmasters google page speed score: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmeko.lv%2F&tab=mobile q1LDHTn

Google Indexing Development Site Despite Robots.txt Block
Hi, A development site that has been set-up has the following Robots.txt file: User-agent: * Disallow: / In an attempt to block Google indexing the site, however this isn't the case and the development site has since been indexed. Any clues why this is or what I could do to resolve it? Thanks!

Is a canonical tag the best solution for multiple search listing pages in a site?
I have a site where dozens of page listings are showing in my report with a parameter showing the page number for the listings. Is the best solution to canonical these page listings back a core page (all-products)? Or, do I change my site configuration in Webmasters to ignore "page" parameters? What's the solution? Example URL 1- http://mydomain.com/products/all-products?page=84 Example URL 2- http://mydomain.com/products/all-products?page=85 Example URL 3- http://mydomain.com/products/all-products?page=86 Thanks in advance for your direction.

New Title and Desciptions on page is visible does that mean index postion is also
Hi, I have a question, Suppose I change some content on my web page, i.e. Title, Description, some body text. And then several days later I see this changes have been reflected within the contents displayed to me when I do a google search. I also notice that at the same time that these contents have been displayed to me that the position of my site has either dropped or increased by several positions. Is it a reasonable assumption to attribute the position change to the changes I made on the webpage or is there usually a delay in position movement upon changes visibly being displayed? Thanks,

Are lots of links from an external site to non-existant pages on my site harmful?
Google Webmaster Tools is reporting a heck of a lot of 404s which are due to an external site linking incorrectly to my site. The site itself has scraped content from elsewhere and has created 100's of malformed URLs. Since it unlikely I will have any joy having these linked removed by the creator of the site, I'd like to know how much damage this could be doing, and if so, is there is anything I can do to minimise the impact? Thanks!

Removing a site from Google's index
We have a site we'd like to have pulled from Google's index. Back in late June, we disallowed robot access to the site through the robots.txt file and added a robots meta tag with "no index,no follow" commands. The expectation was that Google would eventually crawl the site and remove it from the index in response to those tags. The problem is that Google hasn't come back to crawl the site since late May. Is there a way to speed up this process and communicate to Google that we want the entire site out of the index, or do we just have to wait until it's eventually crawled again?
