Do these results indicate a problem with my seo?
-
I've entered my the following search query into Google.co.uk
related:mywebsite.co.uk
However the resulting website that are brought back are on the whole nothing like our website, nor do they offer similar services to us.
If I run this same query on my competitors websites they all bring back similar websites to each other.
I read somewhere that gaining links from the websites that Google believes are similar/related to our own website is beneficial. But looking at our results it would seem that Google can't place what our site is about and which sites are similar.
So I'm guessing this is a more pressing matter than link building right now!?
Other info about our website:
We rank fairly well for a lot of our target keywords.
Domain age = 11 years
PA =38
mR= 4.77
mT= 5.74
DA:= 31
DmR= 3.78
DmT= 3.84
PageRank = 3Example of how random the results are the 1st website that comes back in our related websites search is for Doctors GP Practice. Our website sells GPS Telematics Solutions.
Can anyone shed any light on this or just to confirm how much of a problem this is?

Hi Andy,
Thanks for your speedy response.
In answer to your 1st question, our website sits on Hubspot's CMS which allows us to track the rankings for our main keywords in Google.co.uk
This tells us that we currently have 239 Keywords ranking in the Top 10 and 138 Ranked in Top 3. (Many of these are for our long tail keywords that are less competitive)
Driving close to 4,000 visitors per month to the site via Organic search.
I see the reasoning behind the GPS but our competitors also have these terms on their sites but don't have similar results?
It doesn't bother me necessarily but thought it may have indicated that Google couldn't really place what our website is about. Which does bother me.

My first question would be how are you finding your position in the SERPs? Are you not even on the radar or are you 1st page?
I would guess the doctors are coming up because of the "GPS" and "GP's".
My honest view is that isn't only really a problem if it is causing problems for you. If you appear 1st place for your key phrases, then I wouldn't worry - but need a little feedback on this first.
Edit- I should also add that I have seen high competition phrases return a site that has absolutely no related sites, yet the 2nd place had about 200 hundred.
Andy

Is there any harm to SEO having a homepage url that is not clean like www.domain.com. For example citi uses https://online.citi.com/US/login.do Does that matter in any way? Would a company like citi benefit from changing to www.citi.com as their homepage?

SEO page descriptions on mobile - how to hide while preserving the juice for SEO?
Hi everybody, On our pages we have crafted good text paragraphs for SEO purposes. On desktop everything is fine but on mobile the paragraph of text pushes the main content really low on the page. Is there a way of hiding the text while preserving the SEO juices and not getting penalised by Google for spamming techniques? I'd appreciate any recommendations on how to deal with this. Thanks very much!

SEO Strategy help
Hi, I run a B2B 3rd party retail ecommerce site and I am kind of stuck on how to implement my SEO strategy.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | steve45058
So I learned from AdWords data that the best converting words to my site is the (Brand name, Model Number). Many of my B2B customers already know what they want/are looking for. Now this is all fine and dandy for adwords, but I don't really know how to implement this strategy on the SEO side. I do rank decent for some of these product keywords, but 99% of them I do not (which confuses me because some of the brands I rank high for are the more popular brands eg. more competition.) When I do keyword research on SEMRush or another site, it tells me that the competition for this type of keyword strategy is extremely high. Any Help, Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!1 -
Pixel tags impact on SEO?
I was asked by our IT if switching to a tag management company that removes the pixels from our site and is replaced by a javascript would have a negative impact on SEO. I have not been able to find anything that discusses this: Does anyone have experience with this? Has it caused any issues? Has it caused any issues? How do crawlers see pixel data, and what do they do with it?

I know it's a reasonably competitive area but I've not seen such a stubborn domain and it seems that no matter what we do there's nothing listed. i'm thinking that there may be a problem with the domain name. My question is; how can I find out if this is a problem domain. Thanks in advance Steve

Here's a bit of background information: I've achieved the targets and is now being offered what is essentially an unlimited budget. I have a nice list of ideas but thought I would the brilliant people here at the SEOMOZ community what they would do. So as to promote as much response as possible, I'm going to keep my list to myself for now. And by "SEO", I mean I can do things like content strategy, blogging, infographics, etc. Shoot away!
