Keyword research and bullet style format
-
Hi,
-
If my keyword is SEO consultant when I write a paragraphs with with my secondary related keywords do I always need to have my primary keyword used in the secondary keywords. "SEO consultant prices", "SEO consultant training" etc.. or can I just surround my primary keyword with the words with the words "prices" and "training" in a sentence ?
-
In a bullet style format if my title is SEO consultant, do the bullet need to include the secondary keyword with the primary keyword in it or not like that
SEO consultant
- SEO consultant training* SEO consultant prices
or can it be like that
SEO consultant
- Training* Prices
Thank you,
-
-
Thank you for clarifying about the over optimisation.
-
Based upon your initial question which mentioned the following format:
SEO consultant
-
SEO consultant Training
-
SEO consultant Prices
I would agree with RedSweater that your example is over-optimized. You'll be fine with a list of text like this in a page that contains other content on it.
SEO consultant
-
Training
-
Prices
Local SEO services
-
Training
-
Prices

Ah, I guess I'd visualized those bubbles more as percentages. I suppose you could lean toward diversifying by using "less relevant" scored keywords if you're really struggling with what to write. It's still an art rather than a science. You should weigh monthly volume as well as keyword relevancy, since super-relevant keywords may still get little to no searches in your area. You also should consider searcher intent - a super-relevant keyword may get someone to your page but if the search intent was say research a product rather than buy a product, that relevant keyword is actually not that relevant to your content.
-
It is based on moz keyword tool. 5 most relevant related keyword, 1 least relevant.
-
I'm not sure what you mean by relevancy of 5 vs. 3, but it sounds like you're trying to measure too quantitatively.
-
I know it needs to stay as natural as possible but sometimes it is hard if you stick with the original keyword as a secondary keyword and one that a relevancy of 5. Not to sounds spammy is it better to use a keyword that might have relevancy of 3 instead of 5 but that doesn't have the original keyword in it ?
Thank you also for the clarification about the bullet points.
-
I don't think there is a hard and fast rule here yet, but there are some red flags that pop up in my mind with both of your questions. Both have to do with over-optimizing, or keyword stuffing, which Google warns people about.
In both cases, you need to do whatever sounds most natural to your visitors. If you keep repeating a core keyword throughout your other keywords, you will begin to sound spammy and repetitive to humans. That also appears unnatural to spiders and they may flag your page or even your site for being too stuffed. On the other hand, it's not a problem to repeat a keyword in another keyword occasionally, when it sounds natural. Sprinkle it in. It's more of an art than a science.
In your lists, also do whatever is best for the human users of the website. If you have a long page with a ton of services and you are risking repeating yourself - such as,
SEO consultant
-
Training
-
Prices
Local SEO services
-
Training
-
Prices
then I would say it is useful to the user to have your keyword included, like "Local SEO training" and "Local SEO prices", for a couple of reasons. One, as an average visitor skims down the page, he can very easily see what these prices and training apply to. Two, if you have any visitors who may be using assistive technology, like a screen reader, they often bring up menus of say all the headings or all the lists on your site. If you have repeated content then they have no context - but including the context in the document itself makes it easy for them to skim through and not have to listen to every word of your document, but just pull out the headings or list items and understand quickly.
So again there is no hard and fast rule in either case. Always think about all your potential website visitors - with a hug emphasis on people and a much smaller emphasis on spiders - and by improving the user experience you will also be helping improve accessibility and SEO.

How does Yoast SEO premium determine prominent keywords?
We are perplexed how Yoast determines which keywords to select on the page when ranking the top 5 prominent words in Insights. For example, we have a page where birthday parties is clearly the primary keyword. It is used an an H2, in body copy and tagged on images. Yet it does not show up at all. The term 20 Fiesta game points ranks #1. It is mentioned one time on the page in a bullet within one of 5-6 blocks. 40 Fiesta game points ranks 3rd and same situation. Waterpark ranks 4th and is mentioned twice on the page as a bullet of featured activities. But there ar 4-5 other attractions listed in the bullets higher? We have looked as tutorial videos and no one mentions how Yoast determines prominent keywords. Thanks in advance for steering us in the right direction.

Possible for SERP appearance to change on a keyword?
Hi, We're currently working with a brand name which happens to be the name of a small town in the US (126 population). When Googling the brand / town name, there's a map on the right-hand side of the SERP. (Google Maps, with the town highlighted) We're based in Sweden, and this is even showing up on a search on the Swedish Google. I'm wondering; Is it possible for the map to "be removed" as our brand becomes more known? Does anyone have any similar experiences? Is it a better idea to just switch brand name?

My domain name contains my top two keywords. Am I penalized if I create another page where I add my domain key words a 2nd time after the domain name along with a subcategory and the name of a state. I don't know what white hat and black hat is so I want to make sure I stay white hat. Also I didn't know it but is it true that your title shows up in your domain name?

Should I redirect secondary keyword page
I have a reasonably high authority home page and have decided to optimise the home page to target a competitive keyword that previously had a specific page that was optimised on an internal page of my site that I have spent time building links to. The internal page has over 200 links to it so should I 301 redirect this internal page to the home page. Will that increase the auhority of the home page further? Or should I keep the internal page as a 'secondary' page for that keyword?. If I do have two pages don't I risk confusing google?

Should I build links to the home page or a url containing the keyword?
I run an IT company and the company name does not contain the key word I am trying to rank on. I also have a bunch of pages with page rank that containing the actual keywords, for example: http://www.mycompanyname.com/tech-support/locations/brighton My target keyword is "Tech Support Brighton" My Home page is PR4 and my location based pages are PR3. My plan was to build 3 or 4 location pages for the locations we provide tech support for and target location based keyword Anchor text to these URL's e.g "Tech Support Brighton" and then for the home page build links that have the anchor text "Tech Support". Does this sound sane? Many Thanks, K

Multiple Keyword Research Questions, Help
Hello , I've been trying for several days to understand how keyword research works for a multi purpose website,I've read guides, articles even some chapters from the book" The Art of Seo" by O'Reilly and still no luck. It seems i can't wrap my head around keyword research, lets say I have a social gaming community website and I'm trying to rank it first on some low competition keywords + some long tail keywords. The website has functions like leaderboards, profiles, events, competitions, etc so it's not actually a news related website but it will have a blog. My website being on the games niche It would imply that I should target words that contain the word "Games" but this word generates millions of searches globally so ranking first its nearly impossible if the website is brand new. This made me pursue generic keywords formed with 2 / 3 words like fresh games, new games, mmorpg games, fps games, etc which still generate lets say 30.000 searches globally each. Due to the different areas of the website like latest game events, latest games competitions, etc I'm confused If i should pursue website specific keywords like latest games events, fresh games events, latest games competitions, upcoming games competitions but these too generate 30.000 global searches each,so... 0.should i use generic keywords or keywords that include site features? So let's say I decide to pursue generic "games" keywords, due to a high competition based on the keyword I decide to go a layer deeper and for the keyword "fresh games" I obtain keywords like** "fresh games 2011,top fresh games 2011, upcoming fresh games** " and thus building a list of 30 keywords that contain " fresh games".If i do this for the rest of the keywords: ** new games, mmorpg games, fps games, etc** I end up with a list of 10.000 keywords or more since each keyword generates other keywords. Is this the correct approach ? since generating 10.000 keywords sounds a lot and I'm getting the feeling that It's not how it supposed to be done, like were would I insert 10.000 keywords? So how do I know which keywords to pick and aim in order to try to get no.1 ranking? and why those? How many keywords should I use? and where should i put them? since it's not a news website so writing a lot of articles isn't an option. Should I focus on 2 words keywords with around 10.000-30.000 seaches or 2 words keywords + long tail keywords with less traffic like 100 - 5000? Is there a guide for the Keyword Analysis Tool since if i enter "fresh new games" i get a 39% keyword difficulty,is that hard to rank? and I don't know what all those color mean since some of them have higher numbers then others that are found at the top and how can i get beat a website that has has rank 10. So hopefully with your help & by some miracle I will finally be able to build a keyword list. Thank you !
