Major Drop in Traffic Outside AU After Migration
-
We have a major drop in traffic after migration especially in the US and other international countries but we are more worried about the US.
Before Migration:
February 3 - March 18, 2018 (44 days)
vs
After Migration:
March 20 - May 2, 2018 (44 days)See GA traffic comparison (screenshot 1)
Also, based on SEMrush the traffic, the United States is down by 46% (see screenshot 2) while Australia has decreased by 12% (screenshot 3).
What could be the main issue issue of this? Would really love to hear an in-depth explanation about this.
Keen to hear your thoughts about this.
Cheers,

Hi chris
There can be a number of different types of migration. If you are talking about a migration from http to https then it is likely that both versions of the pages will persist for a while until Google reindexes everything. Whatever you can check what is being indexed by performing a site search as follows.
Do a site search in Google - site:yourdomain(no http or https) inurl:http:// and see how many of the old pages are left,
If this is splitting out content to other country base subfolders then teh same thing can apply.
It is quite common to see a temporary drop and it can take a while for all pages to be indexed properly. You can try fetching Google (in search console) but in my experience, it is just a matter of time before things start to bounce back upwards.
Just check that you have the appropriate 301 redirects set up in your htaccess file, that you have set up the preferred domain in search console and that the appropriate hreflang tags are set up on the site to point to the different country and language combinations, to avoid any duplication issues.

I hope this helps

Hi. Has anyone seen a drop in their PA recently? We have over 40 clients and 80% dropped and it has been like this for the past 2 months. I wanted to check if other websites are also experiencing this drop or is it just us?
I'm specifically asking for drops happened in the last 2 months, because before that we had a normal trend. Some websites would go up in their PA rankings and some would drop. But seeing 80% of our clients drop like this is just weird. Just wanted to see if other market leaders are also having the same issue so I can stop attributing it something X-Filish! Our clients are all .EDUs if anyone was wondering. Also the maximum drop has been 4 points in a month.

Decreased organic traffic but increased Webmaster Tool Queries
We have a client who has had a significant decrease in organic traffic this last month (about 20%) but in Webmaster tools it tells me there was an increase in impressions and clicks. How can these both be accurate?

Migration Strategy
Hi guys, Just want to check on this site migration strategy. Basically we have an Australian based ecommerce site which is going to launch globally. The company has two site. One is (http://www.domainUS.com – for US market) and one is Australian based (http://www.domain.com.au). Basically the plan is to have one single global .com site (like ASOS.com) on a new domain which would be domain.com and put both the current http://www.domainUS.com (US VERSION) and http://www.domain.com.au (AUSTRALIAN VERSION) on the new domain: domain.com (global) To make it even more complicated the new global domain (domain.com) is in the process of being purchased (someone else has the domain) and won’t be available till January 2016. But the company wants to execute the new global setup in November 2015 temporary on the .com.au version The current migration plan is to create two different sub-folders one for US e.g. http:www.domain.com.au/us and one for AUD http://www.domain.com/au on the current domain Australian domain.com.au for the global launch in November 2015. Then once domain.com is ready in January 2016, then migrate to domain.com with the countries as sub-folder (as shown below in stage 3). I was wondering if you guys think this would be an ideal migration strategy given the circumstances. Hello there, Based on Moz's rank tracker our keywords ranking have been dropping in ranking. Does anyone know what might be the cause? We have been building quality "white hat" links which are very relevant to our niche Thanks, Robert

Two Week eCommerce Site Migration - how to handle visibility
Good day All, We have a eComm site with over 100K pages and migrating to a new site design, new CMS and with a new URL structure for top level URLs only. Product URLs not changing (thank goodness!). We have outlined our strategy for redirects, indexation, 404s, etc. The missing piece of the puzzle is that we're only allowing 10% visitors to see new site at launch and increase visibility over two week; therefore, my question is do we not allow indexing of new site until 100% visibility to all users? How do we manage the redirects for limited visibility? My gut says don't bother for such a short period of time and block new site from SEs until 100% visibility. Since the site would be blocked how are redirects managed? Should we be using a 302 initially then switch to 301 or use a 503 code to indicate "hey, maintenance happening - come back later" with a time frame? Hope that's clear and any tips greatly appreciated. Cheers, WMCA

Why does Google Claimed Local Listing Ranking Drop?
I have two local google places listinggs unlaimed. Both listings were ranking in the blended search in 7 pack. Once I claimed the local listings for the business both listings rankings have dropped. And one has totally vanished from the search rankings. Is this normal as it appears local places that are not claimed are ranking higher than local places claimed?

Should we always avoid drop-down menus?
In Google's SEO Guide, they say avoid the use of drop-down menus, page 12: http://static.googleusercontent.com/external_content/untrusted_dlcp/www.google.com/en/us/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf But, is this always true? What if you create the drop down purely using HTML & CSS? Is it fine to use a bit of javascript to create the drop-down menu, or should it only be HTML & CSS?
