Title tag and user intent
-
I am just wondering if I create a page that present different e-bike kits and my title tag tag is "the best e-bike kits in 2019", will I rank on "e-bike kits" and "best e-bike kits" or on just "best e-bike kits" ? It seems that user intent can be tricky and sometimes a title tag can make all the difference.
How about if I write "Explore Burgundy on a bike tour "to rank on "Burgundy bike tour", will I rank or is the user intent different when I write explore (meaning I am looking for something self guided instead of guided)
Thank you,
-
On the off chance that you take Burgundy explicitly, the outcomes scene is somewhat extraordinary with a greater number of pages positioning with explicit courses instead of visits accessible from suppliers. For your page title in principle, it would be conceivable anyway I would actually go more down the course of Burgundy Bike Tour - A Cyclists Guide To Burgundy. Again it is difficult to decide without seeing your page and space yet it seems serious, so it's difficult to pass judgment on your odds by page title alone. Education is important so Best IAS Coaching in Kolkata. Anyway as I would like to think it is shrewd to have it spread out more like this with the explicit term at the front and afterward extra related content in the wake of leaving space to catch related longer tail look and empowering commitment.

Thanks have faced the same issue for Portafina but now solved. Great information!

Thank you for the information. So from my understanding I will still appear with the word explore but maybe a little lower than if I had Burgundy bike tour only in the title.

I think the best way to answer this would be go look at the landscape - e.g. I used London Bike Tour and you will see what titles are ranking and then click the links to get an idea of the page contents intent - what I saw was mainly tours you can book listed. Page titles are important but so is the page content - even if you get to page 1 briefly if the searches intent isn’t served by your content you are likely to see poor engagement metrics and you won’t stay there long.
If you take Burgundy specifically the results landscape is slightly different with more pages ranking with specific routes rather than tours available from providers. For your page title in theory it would be possible however I would personally go more down the route of Burgundy Bike Tour - A Cyclists Guide To Burgundy. Again it is hard to judge without seeing your page and domain but it appears competitive, so it’s hard to judge your chances by page title alone. However in my opinion it would be wise to have it laid out more like this with specific term at the front and then additional related text after leaving room to capture related longer tail searches and encouraging engagement. If I were looking for a biking tour of Burgundy with the intent of finding routes I would be encouraged to click on one that says guide...

Hi Matt,
Thank you but I am not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean that it will be difficult to rank for "Burgundy bike tour", with "Explore Burgundy on a bike tour " ?
Should I replace my title by Burgundy bike tour | Explore Burgundy bicycle tour ?
-
Have you explored what the current landscape for both types of term is? I would start there so you get an idea if any with title tags of similar intent rank for the types of terms you are asking paying close attention to keyword order and the page content. For instance, when I looked at page 1 for a "[major city] bike tour" one of the top results had the page title containing "explore" however in terms of keyword order it was later in the page title and the on-page elements such as the URL and H1 were focused on the more specific term [major city] bike tour. I think you also need to take into account what the page content is - for instance, this one with "explore" in the title still had the intent of listing the best bike tours to book rather than route or landmarks again making the intent more relevant. I think you are right to think in this instance you would struggle to outrank pages that are listing specific bike tours you can book when I had a glance at the landscape.

Reviewing Category & Tag policy - Update
I recently (http://moz.com/community/q/less-tags-better-for-seo) started reviewing my category and tag policy, and things have been going very well. I thought I would share what I have done: Removed all tags from site Added unique descriptions for each post for the category excerpt. Only had the category description on the first page and use the description like a post to summarise and interlink to sub-categories or posts. This keeps pages from slipping down the number of clicks until it can be reached, improving link juice distribution. I also reduced the number of posts showing to 5, to allow more focus on the description (main part) of the category post. To add the category description on the first category page only in Wordpress, you need to go to the category.php or archive.php and change: to The overall aim was to have a hierarchal resource contained in the category page description. Whilst this is still a work in progress, you can see an example of what I am trying to achieve here: https://www.besthostnews.com/web-hosting-tutorials/cpanel/ https://www.besthostnews.com/web-hosting-tutorials/cpanel/mail/ If you have any further tips and advice as I continue to implement this (with good results so far), please feel free. Also, you can use the Visual Term Description Editor plugin to allow the wysiwyg editor for the category descriptions.

Appropriate Use of Canonical Tag
Hello, I am creating study guides for books with tabbed elements for each study guide. For example, for Othello, I'd have 3 tabs like so: 1. Overview page = xyz.com/othello 2. Context = xyz.com/othello/context 3. Characters = xyz.com/othello/characters I noticed that YouTube channels have tabbed elements and use the canonical. For example, all of the tabbed sections on https://www.youtube.com/user/Nerdist/channels have this canonical http://www.youtube.com/user/Nerdist"> In my case, would it be a correct use of the canonical tag to include rel="canonical" href = http://xyz.com/othello on each of the tabbed pages? Also, where exactly in the header should the canonical be placed? Before or after open graph / twitter cards?

Canonical Tags?
I read that Google will "honor" these tags if your website has two url's with duplicate content. The duplicate content does not show up in my SEOmoz crawls report but they do in the search engines and many of "non authoritative links" that are generated from my search feature j(ugly url's with % ...not real user friendly) are ranking higher than the "good URL" links. So if I do the canonical tags I guess my higher ranking bad urls will drop. I even read that google might even completely overlook the links. I read somewhere that the best way to do this is with a 301 redirect...is that correct? I m ranking pretty good with my main keyword terms so I am afraid to make changes not knowing the effect. Any suggestions? Thanks, Boo

Duplicate Page Content / Titles Help
Hi guys, My SEOmoz crawl diagnostics throw up thousands of Dup Page Content / Title errors which are mostly from the forum attached to my website. In-particular it's the forum user's profiles that are causing the issue, below is a sample of the URLs that are being penalised: http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/myforum/pop_profile.asp?mode=display&id=1308 I thought that by adding - http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/myforum/pop_profile.asp to my robots.txt file under 'Ignore' would cause the bots to overlook the thousands of profile pages but the latest SEOmoz crawl still picks them up. My question is, how can I get the bots to ignore these profile pages (they don't contain any useful content) and how much will this be affecting my rankings (bearing in mind I have thousands of errors for dup content and dup page titles). Thanks guys Gareth

Hiding tag and category root in wordrpess = plunge rank
I deleted the "tag" portion of my tag urls's that were ranking pretty high....so: www.businessinteriors.co.uk/tag/office-fit-out-bristol became www.businessinteriors.co.uk/office fit-out-bristol The old tag page ranked 7 before the change and even 3rd at one stage. The new name page without the tag has re-appeared at 23.... So quite a plunge in ranking from the change and this is across the board for all my tags (200) that were ranking high and I wanted to improve. Have I made a major error? Or will they naturally start coming back to where they were before? Weirdly some of the changes have had a positive impact - so ranking has gone up slightly in some areas..but completely out done by the plungers :-s

Why Put an H1 Tag On A Product?
Why would you put an H1 tag on a product name? I came across this in another forum and thought I'd float it here.
