It depends on whether you use Apache or IIS to manage your website.
Here is an example of what you'd use if you have IIS 7:
<code><system.webserver><rewrite><rules><rule name="Force www" stopprocessing="true"><match url="(.*)"><conditions><add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^site\.com$"></add></conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="<a" href="http://www.site.com/{R:1}">http://www.site.com/{R:1} redirectType="Permanent" /></action></match></rule></rules></rewrite></system.webserver></code>
This shows what you'd use for Apache (at least I think... I use personally use IIS):
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4907348/force-www-via-htaccess
And once you have one of these in place, you will also want to configure your Google Webmaster Tools to specify your preferred domain (Configuration > Settings > Preferred domain > Display URLs as www.YOURSITE.com).
This is technically a 301 permanent redirect, so if you have any other links on the web that point to the non-www version, they will be redirected to the correct www version - since there is a redirect at play here, it would not pass the full amount of link juice. But like I said in my previous post, it appears that you only have 1 link pointing to the incorrect version. So, you will actually be fixing a broken link by doing this. In theory, your www version will be gaining some of the link juice that the non-www version was previously receiving.
This is also going to provide your users with a better experience as well... which is nice
Make sense?

Hi Mike,
How can i set up a rewrite option? does it hurt my rankings ?
Thanks for help!
-
Hi Tony,
You could setup a rewrite to always force the use of WWW when a user or crawler accesses your site without the use of WWW.
Depending on whether you use IIS or Apache, it will be different.
I did a quick look at your site and it looks like all of your absolute paths are correct with using WWW; however, if you use OPENSITEEXPLORER.org for http://asggutter.com/sitemap.xml you will notice that it has one linking domain: http://iwebchk.com/reports/view/asggutter.com#.UTDhWzA4tqk
I am guessing that Google is crawling iwebchk.com and is getting the non-WWW version of your sitemap from this website. If you Google the iwebchk.com URL above, you will notice that it has a date of Jan 16, 2013, so it must of cataloged this incorrectly somewhat recently.
You could also maybe try contacting iwebchk.com and asking if they would correct the sitemap URL on their website - but the rewrite to force WWW would probably be easier.
Good luck,
Mike

Get rid of a large amount of 404 errors
Hi all, The problem:Google pointed out to me that I have a large increase of 404 errors. In short I had software before that created pages (automated) for long tale search terms and feeded them to google. Recently I quit this service and all those pages (about 500000) were deleted. Now google GWM points out about 800000 404 errors. What I noticed: I had a large amount of 404's before when I changed my website. I fixed it (proper 302) and as soon as all the 404's in GWM were gone I had around 200 visitors a day more. It seems that a clean site is better positioned. Anybody any suggestion on how to tell google that all urls starting with www.domain/webdir/ should be deleted from cache?

Duplicate page content errors in SEOmoz
Hi everyone, we just launched this new site and I just ran it through SEOmoz and I got a bunch of duplicate page content errors. Here's one example -- it says these 3 are duplicate content: http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-black-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-camel-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-gray-3inch You'll see from the pages that the titles, images and small pieces of the copy are all unique -- but there is some copy that is the same (after all, these are pretty much the same shoe, just a different color). So, why am I getting this error and is there any best way to address? Thanks so much!

Why are my pages getting duplicate content errors?
Studying the Duplicate Page Content report reveals that all (or many) of my pages are getting flagged as having duplicate content because the crawler thinks there are two versions of the same page: http://www.mapsalive.com/Features/audio.aspx http://www.mapsalive.com/Features/Audio.aspx The only difference is the capitalization. We don't have two versions of the page so I don't understand what I'm missing or how to correct this. Anyone have any thoughts for what to look for?

Is having a sitemap.xml file still beneficial?
Hi, I'm pretty new to SEO and something I've noticed is that a lot of things become relevant and irrelevant like the weather. I was just wondering if having a sitemap.xml file for Google's use is still a good idea and beneficial? Logically thinking, my websites would get crawled faster by having one. Cheers.

Adjust the priority field under the XML sitemap option
For those familiar with this in Drupal - is this worth doing? It seems to be a setting that affects the priority of a URL compared to others on the site. It's set to a default of 0.5 but you can increase up to 1.0 I think. Anyone know about this? thanks
