Redirects and site map isn't showing
-
We had a malware hack and spent 3 days trying to get Bluehost to fix things. Since they have made changes 2 things are happening:
1. Our .xml sitemap cannot be created https://www.caffeinemarketing.co.uk/sitmap.xml we have tried external tools
2. We had 301 redirects from the http (www and non www versions) nad the https;// (non www version) throughout the whole website to https://www.caffeinemarketing.co.uk/ and subsequent pages
Whilst the redirects seem to be happening, when you go into the tools such as https://httpstatus.io every version of every page is a 200 code only whereas before ther were showing the 301 redirects
Have Bluehost messed things up? Hope you can help
thanks

I agree with what effectdigital said. It looks like everything is in place and your non-www and you http versions of the website are redirecting to the https-www version of the site.

That attachment shows that non HTTPS and non WWW URLs are being 301 redirected to the HTTPS-WWW version(s). That's what you want right? From your screenshot it seems like it is working how you want
Just so you know, when you put one architecture into Screaming Frog (e.g: you put in HTTP with no WWW), it doesn't limit the crawl to that specific architecture. If the crawler is redirected from non-WWW non HTTPS to HTTPS with WWW, then the crawler will carry on crawling THAT version of the site
If you wanted to crawl all of the old HTTP-non-WWW URLs, you would need to list all of them for SF in list mode and alter the crawlers settings to 'contain' it to just the list of URLs which you entered. I'm pretty sure then, you would see that most of the HTTP-non-WWW URLs are properly redirecting as they should be
As for the XML thing it's very common especially for people using Yoast. I think Yoast is really good by the way, but for some reason, on some hosting environments the XML sitemap starts blank-rendering. Most of the time hosting companies say they can't fix it and it's Yoast's fault but I don't really believe that. If a file (e.g: sitemap.xml) cannot be created, it's more likely they went in via FTP and changed some file read/write permissions and due to it being more locked down, the XML cannot be created anymore. If you were hacked by malware, they were likely over-zealous when locking your site back down and it's causing problems for your XML feed(s)

Hi, are you able to please interpret this for me. It looks like the non www versions are showing as https://www version on 200. the home page looks like the only 301???

Hi Carrie,
For your 301 redirects on the root level, it sounds like the .htaccess file has changed on the server. Can you try validating those other http and non-www versions of the website through other tools like ScreamingFrog? If you're still getting 200 response codes, I would advise raising the issue with Bluehost as this is something they can fix.
As for the XML sitemap, do you mean that you're unable to upload a file to that location? Have you tried sFTP?

Looks like keyword stuffing, but it isn't
(There was a similar older question on the forum, but it wasn't really answered so please forgive me if this looks like a repeated question) Looks like keyword stuffing, but it isn't We have a massive web store with 80k "commodity products" (and this amount will only increase) which aren't sold the same way normal products are sold (i.e. by brand and model). Commodity products are sold by specification, therefore their product names are actually descriptions of the product. In our case, industrial fasteners (nuts, bolts, washers, screws, etc) sold in bulk. If you click on the link below, you will see that our catalog involves a tremendous amount of repetition, where the products all appear the same, but are varying by dimensions and/or package quantities. The solutions the web store software offers to solve this problem cause issues for us (i.e. displaying the dimensions and quantities ONLY under a common header) but more importantly, we are concerned that search engines are seeing this as keyword stuffing and penalizing the pages. http://www.aspenfasteners.com/Step-Bolts-Inch-Standard-s/407.htm If we can't change the presentation of the page, should we be concerned and if so, how do we let a search engine know that the repetition is legitimate?

Redirect 'keyword-url' to improve ranking?
I was wondering if a good url, with a keyword in it, can help you improve the position of that certain keyword by redirecting that url to your website. To make it clear: We run the website www.terello.nl, and have the possibility to let the url www.iphonereparatie.nl (translation: iphonerepair) redirect to our website. Would this help us to rank for the keyword 'iPhone reparatie'? I hope that I made myself clear this way:) Otherwise i'm more than happy to clearify myself!

What should I do with URLs that cause site map errors?
Hi Mozzers, I have a client who uses an important customer database and offers gift cards via https://clients.mindbodyonline.com located within the navigation which causes sitemap errors whenever it is submitted since domain is different. Should I ask to remove those links from navigation? if so where can I relocate those links? If not what should I do to have a site map without any errors? Thanks! 1n16jlL.png

WMT only showing half of a newly submitted XML site map
After upgrading design and theme on a relatively high traffic wordpress site, I created an XML site map through Yoast SEO since WP Engine didn't allow the old XML site map plugin I was using. A site:www.mysite.com search shows Google is indexing about 1,100 pages on my site, yet the XML site map I submitted shows "458 URLs submitted and 467 URLs indexed." These numbers are about 1/2 of what they should be. My old site map had about 1,100 URLs and 965 or so indexed (used noindex on some low value pages.) Any ideas as to what may be wrong?

301 redirects & merging two sites into one
We have a client that has two sites that rank well for different searches in their market. The main pages ranking are things like advice articles and news pieces. For various reasons, they just want one site. I believe they need to duplicate the content from the outgoing site and place it on the main site, with a 301 redirect from each old page to each new one. What happens when they eventually want to redirect the entire domain? Would these smaller, internal redirects become obsolete, therefore removing any link value they once had? I am not sure how this works or if there is a best practice way to do this. Thanks Gareth

My Domain Authority is high but don't rank in serps
So i'm a beginner/intermediate SEO and uptil about 3 weeks ago i enjoyed Top 3 rankings for all my keywords(VIrtual Assistant,Virtual Assistants, Virtual Personal Assistant,Virtual Personal Assistants and so on) for my site www.247VirtualAssistant.com. All of a sudden i dropped in rankings and can't figure out why. I ran a link analysis and nothing looks like it changed, in fact i still command much higher domain authority than my competition, but i'm stuck on the bottom of the 2nd page. I can't tell if i'm being penalized, if the other sites all of sudden just outperformed me or something else is happening here. I've also noticed a lot of "dancing" in my serps, I've been in 2nd last position on the 2nd page, then 1st of the third page, then last on the 2nd page and so on. Can someone please help me make sense of this?? Thanks! Thomas, a very confused an desperate website owner

Pictures 'being stolen'
Helping my wife with ecommerce site. Selling clothes. Some photos are given by producer, but at times they are not too good. Some are therefore taking their own photos and i suspect ppl are copying them and using them on their own site. Is there anyting to do about this - watermarking of course, but can they be 'marked' in anyway linking to your site ?

Google has not indexed my site in over 4 weeks, what's the problem?
We recently put in permanent redirects to our new url, but Google seems to not want to index the new url. There was no problems with the old url and the new url is brand new so should have no 'black marks' against it. We have done everything we can think off in terms of submitting site maps, telling google our url has changed in webmaster tools, mentioning the new url on social sites etc...but still nothing. It has been over 4 weeks now since we set up the redirects to the url, any ideas why Google seems to be choosing not to index it? Thanks
