How can you figure out which topics are the more relevant for a specific query ?

Hi there,
There are many options to figure this out:
- You can use MOZ's keyword explorer
- Google Ads' keyword planner
- AnswerThePublic for a list of questions and related topics (answerthepublic.com)
- Websites like Reddit and Quora to see what are the questions being asked about a topic and which are the most popular questions around a topic
- Run a Google search for the topic and check the "People also ask" section and the "Searches related to" section - take the output from this and run them through the above websites for more insights/data
Depending on how much time you to want or can spend, there's a lot of insights that can be gained from the above.

Can you talk about anything (any topics) when you write about something or is google expecting to see certain topics ? Let me clarify, let's say I do "bike tours on the island of Corsica"and bike through villages that none of the companies ranking on the 1 st page ride thru. Can I still rank as long as I write good content or do I need to cover at least some of the topics covered by the companies ranking on the 1 st page ? Thank you,

H tags and Topics
Hello, When google is looking for topics does it combine all the H tags or does it look at H tag after H tag For example let's imagine I have an H2 and under that H2 I have 5 H3. To find the topic(s) of my page does it look at each H3 separtly and says H3 number 1 has this topic, h3 number 2 has this topic and so on or does it take all the content within the 5 H3 to find the topic of the H2 ? What is the impact of an off-topic page to other pages on the site?
We are working with a client who has one irrelevant, off-topic post ranking incredibly well and driving a lot of traffic. However, none of the other pages on the site, that are relevant to this client's business, are ranking. Links are good and in-line with competitors for the various terms. Oddly, very few external links reference this off-topic post, most are to the home page. Local profile is also in-line with competitors, including reviews, categorization, geo-targeting, pictures, etc. No spam issues exist and no warnings in Google Search Console. The only thing that seems weird is this off-topic post but that could affect rankings on other pages of the site? Would removing that off-topic post potentially help increase traffic and rankings for the other more relevant pages of the site? Appreciate any and all help or ideas of where to go from here. Thanks!

Ecommerce Site homepage , Is it okay to have Links as H2 Tags as that is relevant to the page ?
Hi All, I have a Rental site and I am bit confused with how best do my H Tags on my homepage I know the H1 is the most important, Then H2 Tags and so on.. and that these tags should really be titles for content. However, I have a few categories (links) on my homepage so I am wondering if I could put these as H2 Tags given that it is relevant to the page . H3 Tags will my News and Guides etc , H4 Tags will the whats on the footer. I am attached a made up screenshot of what I propose for my homepage if someone could please give it a quick look , it would be very much appreciated. I have looked at what some competitors do a lot of them don't seem to have h2's etc but I know it's an important factor for rankings etc. Many thanks Pete dJSFQwI

Changing the relevance of the homepage
One of my new clients is hell bent on changing the content of their homepage. They are one of the world's largest resort companies. The site is graphics-heavy (with embedded text), and barely contains any content. I haven't started any of the on-page optimization yet, but when I do, it will be a major overhaul. Despite the poor on-page of the site, they are getting great rankings and a ton of traffic due to number and quality of their backlinks and domain authority. My concern is this: they want to change the homepage and make it into a "vacation sweepstakes" type of page. Their logic seems to be that they will generate a lot of interest on the site and get people excited about winning an expensive dream vacation, which is all fine and dandy, however, my feeling is that this will change the relevance of the page. So, instead of pitching their ownership-based program, now, they will be promoting vacation contests. So here's the stupid question: would this have the potential to negatively affect their search engine results or the Domain Authority? I'm thinking of suggesting to them a less drastic approach. Perhaps something like the lightbox sweepstakes overlay on marshallsonline.com. At least, this way, we can keep the current homepage and improve on it, rather than going into another niche. Any feedback or suggestions on this is greatly appreciated!

On blog structure and topic [Advanced]
What if you run a university website with 20 faculties, how would you approach building a blog for them? Would you do it like most universities do - put all blogs in a subdomain and each individual faculty in a subfolder. Like this: https://blogs.monash.edu/ Would you put the blog in a subfolder and create categories for each faculty - like Mashable does for tech, entertainment, etc. Or, create separate subfolders for each faculties? If you have other ideas, please share. For argument's sake, the goal of the blog(s) is to generate leads. It's part of a larger content marketing effort and they want to maximize the blog's SEO benefit. And by the way, please state what you think are the advantages/disadvantages of your chosen option. NOFOLLOW in Forum Topic External Links?
We run a busy aviation website, with lots of members who post external links within our forum. Currently, we implement NOFOLLOW tags on all external links or links to external sites not in our domain portfolio. Would we benefit from removing the NOFOLLOW attribute? Would we benefit from keeping it? Your thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
