Over 40+ pages have been removed from the indexed and this page has been selected as the google preferred canonical.
https://studyplaces.com/about-us/
The pages affected by this include:
https://studyplaces.com/50-best-college-party-songs-of-all-time-and-why-we-love-them/
https://studyplaces.com/15-best-minors-for-business-majors/
As you can see the content on these pages is totally unrelated to the content on the about-us page. Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve.

It seems like Google only has a handful of distinct pages indexed at the moment - whereas bing has about 10x as many. So that seems to indicate something wrong specifically for Google.
I'd start by checking your search console - are there any errors? If you use the URL inspection tool and visit the URL in question (studyplaces.com/15-best-minors-for-business-majors/) does it tell you why it has been canonicalised? What happens if you view the page as Google saw it? Is there any chance that you are blocking googlebot / cloaking in any way? Have you had any website outages or downtime?
As others noted, your about page is now missing - did you do that deliberately to see if it resolved this issue?
-
My Friend,
I don't have access to the backend and to search console, so it is hard to make a precise determination of what's causing your issue.
I think this article might be helpful to you. https://www.signalogic.com/index.pl?page=google_canonical_page_algorithm_problems
Also, the pages they deindexed have mobile issues as you can see here
https://search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly?utm_source=gws&utm_medium=onebox&utm_campaign=suit
And I see on brings catch that some pages are blocking the content with a popup.
The about page is now 404 (maybe you did that on purpose to get the index for the others back? )
I am sure you will figure it out when you do, please come back here to share your experience.
I wish you all the best in resolving this soon!
Regards,
Joseph Green

Should We Index These Category Pages?
Currently we have marked category pages like http://www.yournextshoes.com/celebrities/kim-kardashian/ as follow/noindex as they essentially do not include any original content. On the other hand, for someone searching for Kim Kardashian shoes, it's a highly relevant page as we provide links to all the Kim Kardashian shoe sightings that we have covered. Should we index the category pages or leave them unindexed?

How Does Google's "index" find the location of pages in the "page directory" to return?
This is my understanding of how Google's search works, and I am unsure about one thing in specific: Google continuously crawls websites and stores each page it finds (let's call it "page directory") Google's "page directory" is a cache so it isn't the "live" version of the page Google has separate storage called "the index" which contains all the keywords searched. These keywords in "the index" point to the pages in the "page directory" that contain the same keywords. When someone searches a keyword, that keyword is accessed in the "index" and returns all relevant pages in the "page directory" These returned pages are given ranks based on the algorithm The one part I'm unsure of is how Google's "index" knows the location of relevant pages in the "page directory". The keyword entries in the "index" point to the "page directory" somehow. I'm thinking each page has a url in the "page directory", and the entries in the "index" contain these urls. Since Google's "page directory" is a cache, would the urls be the same as the live website (and would the keywords in the "index" point to these urls)? For example if webpage is found at wwww.website.com/page1, would the "page directory" store this page under that url in Google's cache? The reason I want to discuss this is to know the effects of changing a pages url by understanding how the search process works better.

Mobile Google Not Indexing Mobile Website
Google currently does not index our mobile website. It has the WWW website in it's index. When a user from a mobile phone clicks on a mobile search result for WWW we redirect them to our mobile website. This is posing problems for us as our mobile website is a fraction of the # of pages/sections as our WWW. So for example, mobile search results show that we have a "careers" section; but that's not the case for the mobile website. As a result a user gets a 404. How do we force mobile Google to index our mobile website instead of our WWW?
