Would you consider these website designs an upgrade?
-
Hello everyone, I've asked a few questions in here regarding website design, etc. So first I want to thank you guys for the responses, and second I want to apologize I hope I am not boring you guys. I just feel like this is a forum of qualified people and I value your opinions greatly.
Now to my question, I am considering a redesign as we are not happy with our current site located http://www.studentdebtrelief.us/. We think it feels outdated, not structured well, no good call to actions, ten different fonts, blurry images, does have good integration with social media, boring and bland news page, etc.
I just wanted some opinions on these other sites that were designed by the fellow we are considering hiring. I've gotten some feedback from a friend that he doesn't think they would be an upgrade from our current site, which I totally disagree with. Though I am the first to admit design/creativity is not my strong suit, so I don't value my own opinion on this very much either, lol. I am hoping I can get some insight from you guys here. Do you think the designs below are of higher quality than our current site? Would you be more inclined to continue reading these sites than our own? Is there one in particular you think is the best?

Anyone else with some feedback?
-
Yes - his website homepage has a short excerpt on SEO, so I'm assuming he has a working knowledge of it.
-
Bradley thanks for the response. When you say 'he has a working knowledge of SEO', you mean the new designer, correct?
-
I agree with you that the designs presented are much more appealing than your current design. While your current site is outdated and has a "responsive" (sort of...) design, there is a lot of room for improvement.
It looks like he is an experienced designer that has a working knowledge of SEO, which is really important when considering developing or designing a new site. URL structures, page layout, and usability all play into SEO.
As far as what design to go with, you'll probably want to sit down with your management team and first determine the following:
- Who is using your site?
- Why are they using it?
- What are potentials users looking for?
- What are we offering potential users?
After defining these answers (you probably already have done this), you'll have a better idea of what type of design you want, what type of call-to-action's you'll have, the layout and structure, etc., etc.

How to properly setup a website for the first time
Good morning, I am fairly proficient at SEO and understand a lot of the required elements - but am in no way an expert, which is why I am here now. We are in the process of setting up a brand new website (true PHP -Laravel) This will be for a nationwide website and will need to attract from the north, south, east and west. Although I have no worries about putting my domain out here, the site is not live and I don't want to possibly have a broken link pointing to me before I even launch - so I will give you an example URL and work from there. I will tell you it is a DOT Rentals website and we will call the business Widgets. So the URL is Widgets.Rentals There is no .com, .net - nothing. It is an exact match domain. The site operates as peer to peer - meaning customers will upload their widgets, photos, etc. of their widgets for rent. Now, having said that, let me ask this. If you were setting up this website - how would you recommend we do this right - right from the beginning? Since the customers (not the vendors) will search for widget rentals in a specific location - would you recommend that we maintain Geo Location with Google with a URL like this? Widget.Rentals/Orlando-Florida-beautiful-widgets-for-rent-at-a-great-price Or is it better to not Geo Locate? Widget.Rentals/beautiful-widgets-for-rent-at-a-great-price

What is the best way to handle annual events on a website?
Every year our company has a user conference with between 300 - 400 attendees. I've just begun giving the event more of a presence on our website. I'm wondering, what is the best way to handle highlights from previous years? Would it be to create an archive (e.g. www.companyname.com/eventname/2015) while constantly updating the main landing page to promote the current event? We also use an event website (cvent) to handle our registrations. So once we have an agenda for the current years event I do a temporary redirect from the main landing page to the registration website. I don't really like this practice and I feel like it might be better to keep all of the info on the main domain. Wondering if anybody has any opinions or feedback on that process as well. Just looking for best practices or what others have done and have had success with.

Website Traffic Drop After Switch
Hey guys, two weeks ago we switched over to the new website, however we've experienced about a 20% drop in Google Organic traffic and it does not appear we are getting indexed correctly by Google. On search results it's not using the meta description and the links still point to the old pages. Robots is fine We are using the same IP address Re-directs are in for the pages in question. Sitemap was submitted to Google in Webmaster tools What else do we need to do?

Looking to remove SSL because it is causing very slow website download speeds. Does WP have a plugin that redirects SSL urls to non SSL urls?
After some extended debate with our web development team we are considering dropping the SSL from our website because it is adding almost 2 additional seconds to our download speeds. We know there is a SEO boost from having a SSL but we believe the extended download speeds maybe outweighing the benefit. However we are concerned about the SEO implications of having no method possible of redirect SSL to non SSL webpages. Does anybody know of a Wordpress Plugin that can force redirect SSL urls to non SSL urls?

Will google penalize a website for using a table layout?
I just got a new client today and his entire website layout and structure is using tables instead of divs. This client is on a tight budget and wants to avoid unnecessary hours for re-coding the website, but at the same time he wants me to improve his SEO organically. This is the first time I've been asked to do work on an existing website that uses pure tables for the entire layout and I'm wondering if this effects the SEO in any way. So my question is, will tables effect rankings and SEO in any way?

Website Redesign - Will it hurt SERP?
Hi - I am planning to redesign my blog and I was wondering if this will affect my rankings? The new website template (custom designed) is much more user and seo friendly. The content, url structure, internal linking structure, meta tags, and site structure will remain exactly the same, but the visual design will be different (new sidebar widgets, and slightly different layout on inner pages). The current website is ranking very well (mostly top 5), has a healthy backlink profile, strong social media presence, and great traffic. I have heard that switching to a new template will dramatically hurt the rankings. Is this true? Are there any exceptions? Any ways I can prevent the rankings from dropping? Would really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance. Howard
