Ranking keyword ecommerce product
-
Hi guys,
I run an ecommerce store footdistrict.com. We sell sneakers. My question relates to the name of some of my products and how to rank for them.
This concerns to the shoes from New Balance
The name of this products follows this format: New Balance XXNumberXXX .
But actually I have realized I am ranking for New Balance XXNumber XXX . Note the space between the number and the last 3 characters. All my titles, h1, keywords follow this format.
Example: New Balance WL574 RUP vs New Balance WL574RUP
My questions are:
1. How would you determine which keyword to rank for: New Balance XXNumberXXX or New Balance XXNumber XXX? I have thought of using analytics data to see the pattern of the users search or maybe the difficulty of the keyword? I am receiving a decent amount of traffic for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I wonder if it'd be higher ranking for New Balance XXNumberXXX
2. Does the algorithmn take into account this space? According to the On page Grader, I have an A for New Balance XXNumber XXX and a F for New Balance XXNumber XXX but I assume the engine doesn't work this way
3. What would you do?
Thanks very much
Kind regards

I recommend you do some keyword research using the Google Keyword Tool or Planner and see what people are searching for. See how many people are searching for it with the space vs without the space. That should give you a good idea. You also need to see if you'll be able to rank without the space by checking the competition level, but also the keyword difficulty using Moz tools.
There may also be other alternative formats that people are searching for that you can take advantage of. For example, maybe there's a bunch of people that aren't using the last 3 numbers? Or maybe there are a lot of people who just type in the model number without "New Balance" in front of it. Doing good keyword research will help you decide what keywords to target.
You can also use Moz's SEO Beginner's Guide where they will show you all about keyword research and what to do afterwards. There is also a great post on the 3-tier keyword system, along with a video at Moz.com/academy. I highly suggest you check those out.

How to track ranking in local area?
When I track a keyword ranking with the Ranking Tool, are the results for my geographic area? So, how would I track a keyword in another location? As in, another state? Thanks,

Remove geographic modifiers from keyword list
I just pulled a search term report for all of 2013 from my PPC account. What I got was 673,000 rows of terms that have garnered at least 1 impression in 2013. This is exactly what I was looking for. My issue is that the vast majority of terms are geo-modified to include the city, the city and state or the zip code. I am trying to remove the geographic information to get to a list of root words people are interested in based on their search query patterns. Does anyone know how to remove all city, state and zip codes quickly without having to do a find and replace for each geo-modifier in excel? for example, if i could get a list of all city and state combinations in the US and a list of all zip codes, and put that list on a separate tab and then have a macro find and remove from the original tab any instances of anything from the second tab, that would probably do the trick. Then I could remove duplicates and have my list of root words.

Why did my rankings drop so fast?
Hi Mozzers, One of my clients have suffered from a sudden ranking loss that started beginning of August. A little background: My client is a big cleaning company that has many franchises nationwide and had very good rankings for the past few months. Generally the busiest time of the year is summer and the 4th quarter is the slowest. Organic Traffic generally drops by 5 to 10% between Q3 and Q4 of each year. 2 things have caught my attention while investigating these ranking losses The latest recent Update from the moz index evaluated the website's DA of 48 when in the summer we had a DA of 56. Never seen such a drop before!! My first question is how accurate is the moz index? How can I make sure this data is accurate? I am very surprised because we have been working hard on getting good quality links for the past year and a half. If the DA is accurate then that could explain the ranking loss Google updating its search engine to the Hummingbird version. Do you guys think this has anything to do with the drop in rankings? The content on the website is not the best but is fairly decent. I am still not sure how the ranking drop could be related to Hummingbird? I have also checked webmaster tools to see if I got hit somehow by penguin and it seems fine. Thanks mozzers

Page Ranking by URL / Keyword
Needing to know how to find out the page rank of a URL that is NOT within the top 50 or top 100. Need to know that specific page's rank, not what our overall site's ranking for the keyword is. Can't seem to find any tool that goes beyond the top 100. Any ideas?

SEOmoz tools: Keyword Difficuty + On-page Analysis
To analyse the current KWD situation. I would want to see the top 10 results link metrics (as in Keyword Difficulty & SERP Analysis) and each page's On page score (as in On-page Analysis) for the keyword. Those two figures would give me a pretty good picture of the current situation. Kind regards,

Keyword Self-Cannibalization Message
Hi, I am receiving the following message in my on-page report card: Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization However, I cannot find a link with the relevant anchor text on that specific page? I am using Wordpress and it is a page not a post so there are no tags. Hmmmm.... I'm confused - too many glasses of red wine?

Still Getting Keyword Self-Cannibalization
I used the onsite optimization and made some changes to my post, but am still getting the Self-Cannibalization mention in my results. It lists this: "Real Estate Careers | Keller Williams | Career In Real Estate" as the link that is not supposed to be there. This is not a link, but the title of the post. What am I missing?
