Where is this SERP listing of a product description coming from?
-
Google is showing a manufacturers product description below the ads and before the organic listings that I have not seen before, see the attached image. The bad part is instead of attributing it to the manufacturer it is attributing to one of our competitiors and placing thier link with the text.
1. Why is this happening? I can't find any schema or other mark-up on the page explaining where this content is coming from.
2. How do I combat this? I have not seen this type of SERP before.
Any help is appreciated.

Yes you are 100% right in my opinion. The whole reason I believe for the shift in brand preference is a play on generating more ad spend via Adwords. The search results are so unhelpful for so many searches nowadays.
For example, search for "Trademark Registration" on Google. That SERP used to be full of attorneys and websites offering that service. Now it's mostly government websites forcing the attorneys to buy ads for this highly searched term.

I confirm this is currently a test - but there isn't anything you can do about it. They are always looking to show the most relevant web pages and in their eyes the manufacturer is the one of the best sources of info.
More importantly (and this is me guessing), you are going to pay more on Adwords if your natural listing are pushed down - hence they are driving you to spend more on Adverts. The more they can get you to spend on Adverts the better - in my opinion manufacturers rarely spend money on advertising so by pushing these further up the rankings, the more retailers have to spend on Adwords.
If they start pushing manufacturers to the top of natural search - even the best SEO, good DA, quality links, relevant unique content (all the things good SEOs have been doing for years) will have been wasted if suddenly manufacturers start appearing in position 1.
A little tip maybe if this is what Google does decided to do - contact the manufacturer and see if you can get listed on their recommend reseller listing, then you may not having to worry about getting number 1 listing, if you can get traffic from the manufacturers page that Google ranks in position 1.

I'll give you my opinion but it isn't a definitive answer.
I believe what you're seeing is a Google SERP test and they are pulling that from the content on the manufacturer's page but I agree there is no rich markup on the page like Schema to point Google to use it.
A quick search of
lacrosse monkey
shows me no Google ads on the page which is a pretty sure signal Google recognizes this manufacturer as a brand entity. That in and of itself would suggest Google might also understand the products as entities and be pulling content from the product page and testing it in the Knowledgegraph to see how searchers interact with it.Unfortunately I don't think there's much you can do about it.

SERP Cannibalization Issue
Hi Moz Community, Glad to be here with you. I need some help from you guys. I have a new client website: [https://deluxemassage.co.uk/](link url) My client runs this type of business offering professional therapeutic health services. It offers massage services on demand ("mobile", therapists visiting clients at home). The client has his business registered, and the therapists listed on the website are carefully vetted, all having training in different types of massage. The client's problem is that until 2 months ago the site was in position 3-4 in Google (somewhat stable) with the main page for the keyword "mobile massage London". Recently I noticed that another page on the site that lists all therapists - i.e. this page [https://deluxemassage.co.uk/therapists/](link url)- is on the first page of Google for the above keyword, although both the title tag, meta description and the page on the site do not target the above keyword.

I notice that both pages have serious fluctuations in the SERP for the mentioned keyword, sometimes appearing both in the results.
The Home page is marked as rel=canonical Of course the position in SERP fluctuates from 8, 11, 12, 7. What should I do to solve this problem? Any thoughts here would be appreciated. Thanks0 -
Ctr question with home page and product pages
do you believe that the advantage of targeting a search term on the home page is now worse off than before? as I understand it ctr is a big factor now And as far as i can see if two pages are equal on page etc the better ctr will win out, the issue with the home page is the serp stars cannot be used hence the ctr on a product page will be higher? I feel if you where able to get a home page up quicker (1 year instead of two) you still lost out in the end due to the product page winning on ctr? do you think this is correct?

Duplicate Content on Product Pages with Canonical Tags
Hi, I'm an SEO Intern for a third party wine delivery company and I'm trying to fix the following issue with the site regarding duplicate content on our product pages: Just to give you a picture of what I'm dealing with, the duplicate product pages that are being flagged have URLs that have different Geo-variations and Product-Key Variations. This is what Moz's Site Crawler is seeing as Duplicate content for the URL www.example.com/wines/dry-red/: www.example.com/wines/dry-red/_/N-g123456 www.example.com/wines/dry-red/_/N-g456789 www.example.com/wines/California/_/N-0 We have loads of product pages with dozens of duplicate content and I'm coming to the conclusion that its the product keys that are confusing google. So we had the web development team put the canonical tag on the pages but still they were being flagged by google. I checked the of the pages and found that all the pages that had 2 canonical tags I understand we should only have one canonical tag in the so I wanted to know if I could just easily remove the second canonical tag and will it solve the duplicate content issue we're currently having? Any suggestions? Thanks -Drew

Bounce rate seems to decrease as site climbs the SERP but SERP ranking always drops down after a few days - WHY ?
Like quite a few sites recently we've seen some large fluctuations for our domain the SERPs over the past 6 or so weeks. One thing ive noticed, is that when the site seems to rank higher in the SERPs we get a lower bounce rate. If the sites average across all of its main keywords in #5 the bounce rate is c. 40% (this site is a creative portfolio site, so i guess the niche has a slightly higher bounce rate than normal as you will get some people who click through an notice straight away that the style of the portfolio isnt what they where looking for) But when the sites ranking averages #2-3 the bounce rate tends to be about 25%. (The thing is that we tend to always drop back down after a fews days or so) Has any one else noticed this ?

Same Meta description is being shown on Google?
Not sure why this is happening but when you this command into Google site:"mywebsite": + "key phrase" It brings up pages from my website which have the key phrase but I have noticed that Google is using the wrong meta description for all of them even though these pages all have their own unique meta description Does anyone know why this would be happening? Thanks

Losing rank to Scholarly Articles and Keyword Description Stuffing
I began reviewing the rankings this week and noticed that many of our #1,#2, etc rankings had been bummed down as a whole. After reviewing many of the search terms it seems Google has begun to rank a group named Scholarly Articles in the #1 position. Has anyone else noticed this change? Secondly, many of the rankings we have lost are due to some competitors stuffing their descriptions with keywords. #1 Rank Description Failure Analysis; Scanning Electron Microscopy & EDS Analysis. Paint Chip Analysis and Evaluation; Paint Tests Physical Testing of Paints. #1 Rank Description NACE certified coatings inspector, paint inspector, coating inspector, coatings inspector, lining, failure analysis, survey, corrosion, rust, evaluation, testing, expert Is this a possible glitch occurring with the new humming bird release and has anyone else noticed an issue like this? It dropped our #1 ranks from 37 to 23 overnight. Thanks

Privacy page ranking above home page in serps
I'm using OSE to try and get some clues as to why my privacy page would rank higher than my home page. Could anyone help me figure out which metrics to review to rectify the issue? My key word is: Mardi Gras Parade Tickets The url that is ranking is <cite>www.mardigrasparadetickets.com/pages/privacy</cite> I'm happy to be ranking in the top 3 for the keyword, but I'd rather hoped it wouldn't be my privacy page. Any help would be awesome, Cy

Major SERP Fluctuation
I'm working on iDeal Chooser, a Comparison Shopping site and we've been having a weird problem with some of our major keywords on Google for the past couple of months. We keep moving between the first page of the results to disappearing completely. For example a Google search for "price drop alerts" returns idealchooser.com as result 3-5 for a while and suddenly doesn't return us at all, then we are back to the top results only to disappear again later. We can't figure out what causes it, we didn't see any pattern and it seems completely random. We can be the 4th result for 2 weeks and suddenly we are gone for another 2 weeks. SEOmoz PRO had some good SEO suggestions which we implemented, however nothing that could explain this and even after fixing these issues this weird behavior continues. Any idea will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
