Similar pages on a site
-
Hi
I think it was at BrightonSEO where PI DataMetrics were talking about similar pages on a website can cause rankings to drop for your main page. This has got me thinking.
if we have a category about jumpers so: example.com/jumpers but then our blog has a category about jumpers, where we write all about jumpers etc which creates a category page example.com/blog/category/jumpers, so these blog category pages have no index put on them to stop them ranking in Google?
Thanks in Advance for any tips.
Andy

I'm simply going to re-emphasize what others have said here: it's more important how similar the content is than anything else. "Jumpers" is certainly broad enough that you can attack it from several different content angles. If your website sells jumpers, it's not unusual to have multiple pages about jumpers.
The key is that every page should serve a specific purpose. If this isn't the case, work to find ways to either:
- Consolidate or
- Make the purpose of each page uniquely valuable.
Hope that helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Is the content the same though for the two sections?
For me if one is about jumper products you sell and the other about reviews of jumpers, I think they do very different things, but I can see there will be an overlap and you want to elimate this to Google has a clear definition of both.
Could you not implement to different schema types. One for blog related listing articles etc and one tailored towards product schema, hopefully this will help google to determine the sections a little better.
If however, they are in effect the same pages and content why not implement a series of rel canonicals to the preferred more important pages.
Hope that helps

I think the concept is more geared towards content than it is the URL but if you've got a jumper category with short descriptions and a blog focused on just expanding those descriptions, I can see how it might not be a safe route.
If it's a more informative "how to" type blog, I don't see any risk of detrimentally similar content, but it's best to keep URLs unique. It wouldn't hurt to make the blog categories/posts a bit more specific in the URL and title tags.
For example:
example.com/blog/category/jumpers-installation-how-to
VS.
example.com/blog/category/jumpers
That helps keep URLs clearly unique.

Container Page/Content Page Duplicate Content
My client has a container page on their website, they are using SiteFinity, so it is called a "group page", in which individual pages appear and can be scrolled through. When link are followed, they first lead to the group page URL, in which the first content page is shown. However, when navigating through the content pages, the URL changes. When navigating BACK to the first content page, the URL is that for the content page, but it appears to indexers as a duplicate of the group page, that is, the URL that appeared when first linking to the group page. The client updates this on the regular, so I need to find a solution that will allow them to add more pages, the new one always becoming the top page, without requiring extra coding. For instance, I had considered integrating REL=NEXT and REL=PREV, but they aren't going to keep that up to date.

Duplicate Page Title for multilingual wordpress site
Hello all, I have received my first crawl reports and I find a lot of errors of duplicate page title. In the wordpress site I use the qtranslate plugin in order to have the site in 2 languages. I also use the Yoast SEO plugin in order to put titles, description and keywords to each web page. By looking deeply in the duplicate page title errors I think I found that the problem is that every web page takes the same SEO Title for each language. But I am not 100% sure. I tried to use some shortcodes of the qtranslate plugin like the following ABOUT [:en]About in order to indicate and give different titles per language for one web page but that doesn't seem to work. Does anybody here has experienced the same problem as me? Do you have any suggestions about how to ressolve the problem of the duplicate page title? I can give you the URL of the website if you need it to have a look. Thank you in advanced for your help. I really appreciate that. Regards, Lenia

Double problem: mobile friendly site and shopping cart page duplication
I have a website that has two issues related to SEO: 1) the main website (product.com) is not mobile-friendly and 2) I have a shopping cart site (buymyproduct.com) using Magento that basically duplicates our product pages that exist on the main marketing website. Uses click "buy now" on a product page and are sent to the checkout at "buymyproductnow.com". The company cannot overhaul product.com website right away and our shopping site (buymyproduct.com) uses a responsive theme and works well for iphone and iPad so I am thinking of making buymyproduct.com the mobile-friendly version of our website by using a sniffer on product.com and forwarding users to the mobile friendly version. If I add canonical references from the shopping cart product pages and articles back to product.com associated pages, will this lessen the blow to any seo issues? What other factors am I missing/need to consider Complicated and painful. Maybe doing nothing right now is best. Thanks for any feedback.

Dynamic page
I have few pages on my site that are with this nature /locator/find?radius=60&zip=&state=FL I read at Google webmaster that they suggest not to change URL's like this "According to Google's Blog (link below) they are able to crawl the simplified dynamic URL just fine, and it is even encouraged to use a simple dynamic URL ( " It's much safer to serve us the original dynamic URL and let us handle the problem of detecting and avoiding problematic parameters. " ) _http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2008/09/dynamic-urls-vs-static-urls.html _It can also actually lead to a decrease as per this line: " We might have problems crawling and ranking your dynamic URLs if you try to make your urls look static and in the process hide parameters which offer the Googlebot valuable information. "The URLs are already simplified without any extra parameters, which is the recommended structure from Google:"Does that mean I should avoid rewriting dynamic URLs at all?

That's our recommendation, unless your rewrites are limited to removing unnecessary parameters, or you are very diligent in removing all parameters that could cause problems" I would love to get some opinions on this also please consider that those pages are not cached by Google for some reason.0 -

What I am trying to do is find all the URLs along with their titles and description tags. Thank you very much for your help
