Duplicate Content Errors new website. How do you know which page to put the rel canonical tag on?

I am having problems with duplicate content. This is a new website and all the pages have the same page and domain rank, the following is an example of the homepage. How do you know which page to use the canonical tag on?
http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php
Would this be the correct way to use this?
Here is another example where Moz says these are duplicates. I can't figure out why because they have different url's and content.
http://medresourcesupply.com/clutching_at_the_throat
http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=detailed_specfications &category=Main

Thanks for the response Ruth, that was very helpful.

It looks like for that second link, there is no text content on the page - only one big image with the specifications of the item. That brings the unique text content on the page down to almost 0. The picture of the man clutching his throat is also just a page with one image on it, and no text. Since neither the Moz Crawl Test tool nor Googlebot can see pictures, they are left with the impression that these pages are almost identical.
It's important to remember that the canonical tag is only one way to address duplicate content concerns - "duplicate content" doesn't always mean "canonical tag." Sometimes, when pages have very little content, they appear to be identical or near-identical even if their intents are different. In that case, I recommend seeing what you could do to make the pages more unique. With image pages, I wouldn't worry too much about adding content, but for pages like http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=detailed_specfications &category=Main, where there is content, but it's contained within an image, I would recommend recreating the text contained in that image, but in HTML text. You could also expand upon the specs to make them more detailed, which will add to the unique content of the page and help users figure out if this is the item they really want.

Thanks for the response. So I would want to put the canonical tag on all other versions of the homepage except the /index.php one?
"for e.g., this page
http://medresourcesupply.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=detailed_specfications &category=Main
should have this rel canonical tag
"
The first link is a different page from the homepage. Why would I want to place the canonical tag for the hompage on this one?

Duplicating content from manufacturer for client site and using canonical reference.
We manage content for many clients in the same industry, and many of them wish to keep their customers on their individualized websites (understandably). In order to do this, we have duplicated content in part from the manufacturers' pages for several "models" on the client's sites. We have put in a Canonical reference at the start of the content directing back to the manufacturer's page where we duplicated some of the content. We have only done a handful of pages while we figure out the canonical reference potential issue. So, my questions are: Is this necessary? Does this hurt, help or not do anything SEO-wise for our ranking of the site? Thanks!

Location Pages On Website vs Landing pages
We have been having a terrible time in the local search results for 20 + locations. I have Places set up and all, but we decided to create location pages on our sites for each location - brief description and content optimized for our main service. The path would be something like .com/location/example. One option that has came up in question is to create landing pages / "mini websites" that would probably be location-example.url.com. I believe that the latter option, mini sites for each location, would be a bad idea as those kinds of tactics were once spammy in the past. What are are your thoughts and and resources so I can convince my team on the best practice.

Help with duplicate pages
Hi there, I have a client who's site I am currently reviewing prior to a SEO campaign. They still work with the development team who built the site (not my company). I have discovered 311 instances of duplicate content within the crawl report. The duplicate content appears to either be 1, 2, or 3 versions of the same pages but with differing URL's. Example: http://www.sitename.com http://sitename.com http://sitename.com/index.php And other pages follow a similar or same pattern. I suppose my question is mainly what could be causing this and how can I fix it? Or, is it something that will have to be fixed by the website developers? Thanks in advance Darren

Does it make sense to create new pages with friendlier URLs then redirect old pages to new?
Hi Moz! My client has messy URLs. does it make sense to write new clean URLs, then 301 redirect all old URLs to the new ones? Thanks for reading!

Duplicate Content Question
Brief question - SEOMOZ is teling me that i have duplicate content on the following two pages http://www.passportsandvisas.com/visas/ and http://www.passportsandvisas.com/visas/index.asp The default page for the /visas/ directory is index.asp - so it effectively the same page - but apparently SEOMOZ and more importantly Google, etc treat these as two different pages. I read about 301 redirects etc, but in this case there aren't two physical HTML pages - so how do I fix this?

What constitutes duplicate content?
I have a website that lists various events. There is one particular event at a local swimming pool that occurs every few months -- for example, once in December 2011 and again in March 2012. It will probably happen again sometime in the future too. Each event has its own 'event' page, which includes a description of the event and other details. In the example above the only thing that changes is the date of the event, which is in an H2 tag. I'm getting this as an error in SEO Moz Pro as duplicate content. I could combine these pages, since the vast majority of the content is duplicate, but this will be a lot of work. Any suggestions on a strategy for handling this problem?
