Name change to include a keyword?
-
Hello All...Just signed up for the 30 day trial with Moz.
I am a wedding photographer here in the UK. If I was to change my company name to Simon Cook Wedding Photography from Simon Cook Photography, will this help my presence in anyway?
-
Good choice. You would have to start all over again if you chose to use a new domain name. You would go through a period where you are not visible at all. Also, domain age is a factor google takes into account. It looks like its as long as it is short to change your domain.

I think I will stick to Simon Cook Photography for now!
-
Yes. But, again, don't rely just on that. It's 1 of thousands signals, and it's surely not the strongest one.

Thank you Dimitrii.
Since November I have spent hours on my site keywording and just about everything on the site is focused and dedicated to wedding photography. I do not do portraits of any kind (studio, family etc) just weddings! Down the line I may set up a totally different website dedicated to other stuff I do a little bit of (event, conference, school, theatre). At the this present time I want people who find me be looking for wedding photography. If I did set up a new site im thinking of Simon Cook Event Photography.
So in a nutshell.....If I just want to attract potential wedding clients then Simon Cook Wedding Photography is better than Simon Cook Photography?

Hi there.
Yes, it will. However, if you just rely on having "wedding" in your name to rank, it's not gonna make that much difference. Also it will limit you in terms of brand associativity, so, if you also do portrait photography, you surely can target it, but if i see your name, which says "wedding photography", i most likely gonna think that this is what you specialize in, therefore you are not good in portrait photography (even though it's pretty much the same, it's just psychologically different).
Hope this helps.

Keyword Rich Domain
We purchased a keyword rich domain name to use with an existing website. What is the best way to use this domain? Below are some thoughts, I welcome any input. Use this domain as an add-on to the main domain, but only have it load one page off the main domain? Would that cause duplicate content issues? Create a single static page of content for the domain (separate from main domain) Redirect domain to page on master domain, would we loose any benefits of the keyword rich domain? Thank you!

We have set up our H1 to contain the product name - it used to be our Company name all the time - would this affect our sales
We noticed recently on our site - that our H1 tag was the Company Name - we changed this to be the product name - our products would be searched for by all or part of the description. Our sales have dropped of the days since we changed it, could it be a result of this change ? Is it best to have the H1 tag as the product name ?

Confused with rankings for keywords that are not on the actual page?
Hey Guys, So I went to search a keyword, my competitor came up, when I looked for that keyword on their page i didn't see it at all, and the page is content thin, how is it they are ranking for the keyword at all? Bit confused at how this works. So having the keyword in your content is not necessary a ranking factor? Please advise and sorry if this question is really amateur, I'm sure based on this search there is more to it then that.... could you other ranking factors as to why they rank for a keyword that is not in their content? Does the whole exact keyword have to be in the content to rank? Thanks all

No matter what the keyword, only the homepage shows in the SERP
Hi, wondered if someone could help. My clients website shows up well for terms but its always the homepage rather than the targeted landing page. For example, if you search for "teeth whitening anglesey" they appear http://goo.gl/ohJdua however, its the homepage rather than the tooth whitening page http://goo.gl/uVI8gK Thanks Ade

To include in Sitemap or not to include?
Hello all, A bit of a confusing one but please bear with me... On our website we have a Used Cars section where each morning a feed is loaded onto our site with any changes to the stock. Some cars may have been sold and removed, some new cars may be added, some prices may be changed, every day every morning this very large section of our website is updated. The question I have is, should I be including these urls in my sitemap? The Used Cars section is a huge portion of our website content and is our most important area, the Used Cars overview is our most frequently visited page. The reason I ask is because of course Google might crawl and see car X, but tomorrow car X could be gone and be replaced with car Y. Should I be even mentioning these pages to Google if by tomorrow some of those urls could be gone? It's always changing and it's something we don't have control of. Thanks!

Should I redirect secondary keyword page
I have a reasonably high authority home page and have decided to optimise the home page to target a competitive keyword that previously had a specific page that was optimised on an internal page of my site that I have spent time building links to. The internal page has over 200 links to it so should I 301 redirect this internal page to the home page. Will that increase the auhority of the home page further? Or should I keep the internal page as a 'secondary' page for that keyword?. If I do have two pages don't I risk confusing google?

What to do with keyword specific domains
I have a few domain names with the keywords I'm trying to target for my website. My website currently has been in operations for a couple years, and while not hugely authoritative, has built some value. Now, are these domain names with keywords any use to me? Is there any point to forward them to my site? Do I try to build up a page (or a few of content) and then have a link to my main site? Any insight would be mucho appreciated! Thanks!
