Location-based Keyword Targeting
-
We are located in Denver, Colorado. I want the majority of the site to be focused on Denver keyword terms but I also think we should branch out to other cities around Denver, as well as around the keyword "Colorado."
What's an appropriate way to do this? I've seen site that have a page for every city in the area but it looks terrible and doesn't really fit into the site. How do I cross link to these new city pages (I don't want them in the main navigation)?

Good judgement prevails on these types of decision. Google does not offer a handbook that says "60% of the content must be original to the page". There isn't even any guideline offered.
What I would share is most of a web page should be original content. You can provide a paragraph on your services, additional information on your coverage area which would be unique to the page, testimonials from customers in that area, andspecific examples of customers in that area such as "we provide services for Washington Elementary School located in Denver".
User generated content such as comments are very helpful. Engage your customers and ask for feedback.

How original does content have to be? I mean say we have a page for Denver and one for Colorado -- The services we offer will be exactly the same. Do I basically just need to make sure I'm not copying and pasting the entire page? What if there is 1 paragraph that is exactly the same?

Kyle, like many parts of SEO your decision would differ based on your goals, resources (time, money, content) and competition.
If you are working on a plumber's website who's service is identical in each location and has a relatively small budget and site, you can offer a single page and mention your service area. You can provide testimonials from "Bob in Denver" and "Joe in Boulder" to capture some city names. Building links from satisfied customers in the area would be a great way to associate your page with that area.
If you are working on a larger site with more resources you can provide a detailed page on locations you have in the area and offer custom directions. "From Hwy 1 use Exit A then go 1 mile and turn left of Main street...." You can further detail service needs related to the area such as "clearing the snow out from the Mile High city...".
These are ways you can fill out otherwise thin content while making your pages potentially helpful and relating to your readers without appearing spammy.
-
One way to do that is create a "Service Areas" page where you list all the cities you service. From there link from the city to a city-specific page that lists your services. Make sure the content is original! On that page you can add location-specific anchor text such as "Denver plumbing services" or "Denver heating repair."

How to leverage keyword research on-page.
I'm a newbie and I'm a little embarrassed to ask this question, but here it is. Let's say I've done my keyword research and have 200 keywords. How do I use that for on-page/site optimization? Or do I not use it for on-page/site optimization? I guess I'm unclear about the relationship of keyword research and on-page/site optimization. Thanks.

Is my copy too keyword rich?
www.heartwavemedia.com - Wordpress - All in One SEO Competitors: photonsf.com, h2video.com, corduroymedia.com, thehivestudios.org I've spent the last week writing and tweaking my landing page copy along with my SEO page titles and descriptions. I think I finally feel pretty good about it but I'd like your professional opinions. Is it too keyword rich? Does it flow naturally? Is the voice fresh? Do my SEO titles vary enough? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Where to start with keyword research for a telecom company?
Hey, I'm a brand's person with no SEO experience, yet I'm in a position where I have to carry out an SEO audit of our telecom company's website. Though our website is up and running for some years now, nobody bothered to undertake keyword research. From the little I've read over months on SEOmoz, I've just done the following: took out keywords bringing organic traffic on to our website and checked our rankings for those keywords on major search engines. My observation is that most of these words are long-tail keywords. Since we only have product/service information related to our offerings, most of the head terms we've used for packages/offers/services pages are branded keywords. My understanding is that we need to rank top for our branded keywords (a must) and try to rank as high as possible for long tail. In addition, we can use those keywords in our copy so that the right page ranks top for the respective keyword. Am I missing anything here? What else do I need to do?

Keyword Analysis Tool
Can someone please enlighten me on the Keyword Analysis tool Matrix. Does Domain Linking refer to the number of links back to that domain as a whole? Also why is it that a page with a lower page ranking can be way ahead of one with a domain ranking that is way higher or vice-a -versa? What is a good number to go after? what is actually attainable? Thanks

Keyword search tool or API
Anyone have a suggestion for a simplistic (scaled down) version of a keyword research tool that I can put on our website? We need our clients to be able to perform some basic keyword research on their own without getting lost in the details of something too robust. We would like to control aspects of the tool, capture the data from the site visitor and move those results (from their searches) into a database or other web application.

What's the best keyword tool for discovering regional/metropolitan area keywords?
Generally I use the Google Keyword Tool for my keyword research, but given the fact that the data is either country specific or global, I was wondering what others use for regional/dma-specific keyword discovery. Regional traffic is very important to my site, so I'm hoping to find a tool that I can use to find keywords germane to my audience.

Google keyword tool
Hey anyone noticed Google's keyword tool seems to be returning weird data for search volume compared to just a few days ago? "iron fist clothing" exact match was returning around 1,000 local monthly searches and a monthly trend of approximately the same over the past year. As of yesterday it has zero searches for exact match and even the monthly trends have all been set to zero for every month going back a year Now I suppose this could happen in theory but the fact that the trend is showing up as zero for each month over the last year makes me think this could be a bug. I've also noticed this for one of my keywords on my SEO site, again suddenly gone to zero searches and monthly trends going back a year. However a quick check on webmaster tools shows the impressions going back a few months at the average of 1,300 that the old trend suggested it should be. Anyone else noticed this?
