Any advice for a bootstrap retail website trying to grow our backlinks?
-
Hi there,
Our online business https://www.irishcelticjewellery.com is based in Ireland but targets USA and European markets.
We have been heavily focused on Adwords as the primary traffic source, and a few months ago attempted to revamp and fine-tune this, which negative results. I believe we moved too fast and changed too many configurations too quickly.
Organic traffic has been neglected, and so has stayed flat at approx 10% of traffic, however analytics suggests that the majority of these visitors have less than 30% bounce rate, view more than 6 pages/visit, and have been the source of more than 50% of our sales over a 2 year period.
Based on this, I see a huge need to focus on organic now, and I'm wondering if you have any advice on building back-links. I have begun listing the website in as many relevant business directories as I can find, and we recently began pushing the website on social media as much as our budget allows.
I'm mainly considering targeting complimentary websites, asking them to link to us in exchange for a 4-5% of each sale originating from their backlinks to us. Is that a realistic approach to building backlinks? and do you think this kind of arrangement will be well-received generally? We're a small operation, with a tight budget.
Also, Is social worth pursuing?
Thanks in advance, any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Alan,
Firstly, do you have different variations of the site targeting different languages? Or by European do you mean English speaking nations, such as the UK and Germany (surprisingly most Germans browse in English). If the former, are you targeting them properly with href lang? From my initial scan it doesn't look like that is the case.
With regards to backlinks, it might be worth researching as to whether or not you could reach out to websites targeting Irish living abroad. For example, here in Australia we have IrishAroundOz, so an awareness in such a community could have positive effects (especially if they have a good reader base). I'm friends with a large number of Irish people and they'd all be more than willing to help out a fellow Irish person if they asked. Try and avoid paying any kind of fee for now, outreach to the right people should increase revenue without cost.
Social is worth pursuing and doesn't have to cost much/anything. Make sure you are targeting all platforms, but Instagram is a must these days and you'd be surprised at how quickly you can build a following and start converting.

Affiliate website redirection concern
First of all i want to say hi to everyone here since im a new guy! The issue: My website is a price comparison website. I create products and inside these products i list several shops with their priced offers from the lowest to the highest. When a customer clicks the "shop now" button to go to the desired shop a new window pops up telling the user that he is being redirected to that shop. Check the website here and click "shop now" to understand what i mean: https://www.pccdkeys.com/product/buy-world-of-warcraft-legion-cd-key-for-battlenet/ This pop up page is a custom .php called redirect.php. In order to create a unique url for each shop, we add parameters in every URL like this: /redirect.php?id=5030917189616&merchant=CDKEYS&game=4117. The redirect.php right now is under this setting: custom header 301 without destination URL (which probably is wrong) it is noindex, follow in meta robots the parameters: **id, merchant, game **are set to NO URL's in URL parameters in webmaster tools. If i remove the 301 redirect from the header it will lead to 200 OK but then its a soft 404 error because the page is small and for sure i dont want 8000 of soft 404 errors because google phantom will destroy me. Another setting was: No custom header so it was 200 OK noindex, nofollow (which was for extra protection from the disallow) disallowed in robots.txt Thi setting kept giving soft 404 errors in audits. I also had it with this setting: custom header 301 without destination URL meta robots in index, follow without disallow in robots This setting gave me Not followed errors in google webmaster tools. The question: Which is the proper setting for this php page? Maybe a combination of the above? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Advise about Social Sharing between two loosely affiliated website - (retweets/fb cross sharing)
So basically, I have two websites. One being my Primary website and another which is very Niche/Seasonal. Now the Niche website received a penalty, and was later re-included however google traffic has been extremely limited since being reindexed. (bing never had a problem, still top ranked) I don't directly link back and forth between the two websites because its not worth hurting my primary websites ranking. I'm sure google knows I own both anyway, as they are on the same webmaster tools but the Niche site was kicked for spammy link building & its been an endless process removing them all. Anyway, with that being my concern. Would it be acceptable to cross share facebook posts, retweet and do things like that on occasion? My primary reason for asking is because the Niche website has a very large social following, so I would like to share post/tweets from my Primary site when its relevant and vice versa. Appreciate any suggestions/comments. Thanks!

Income potencial of a website from ad platforms in terms of the daily traffic?
Hello all, I would like to have an idea of the potential monthly income for traffic generation (I mean just for visits to the website and not considering the sales of any given product or service) in a website, in the case I am using ads&marketing platforms for ads diplays. I know it can be very variable, depending on sales achieved, leads generated,etc...but just focusing on traffic on the website, what would be a reasonable figure? 1000 visits per day?= $1 dollar? 100,000 visits per day?=$??? Thank you very much for the help and support, Antonio

Why Does This Website Rank?
Hi, I was looking over some mobile phone deals today and after search for Blackberry Torch Deals in Google UK I came across this site - http://www.phoneslimited.co.uk/Blackberry/9800+Torch.html When I hit the page I was amazed it was ranking #1 because it literally just lists affiliate link after affiliate link. The page has next to no unique content and keyword density is non existent. In fact, the whole on page seo is just whack. So why does it rank so well? The site seems to rank well for a variety of similar keywords? I think we could learn a lot breaking it down
