Do old website files in the public_html effect SEO?
-
My client has about a dozen old folders filled with old websites including index files, robots, htaccess files. They are all located in separate files with in public_html. Does this effect them negatively?
-
Ohh, I understand what you mean. Thank you!

Hi,
It depends, if they're affecting the current visibility + indexation on the site then yes they will. Otherwise they won't as they're just there. It would probably be best to check your servers log files to see if these files still get any visits from Google. If they do/don't that will be the answer on if anything is being influenced. How you wrote it down in your original question, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Martijn.

Launching Website
We are developing a new website and thinking google would not find it because of the directory we put it in (no homepage yet) and because there are no links to it. For example, we are building it in this directory example.com/wordpress/ but somehow google found it and indexed pages not ready to be indexed. What should we do to stop this until we are ready to launch? Should we just use a robots.txt file with this in it? User-agent: *

301 an old URL with a ? in the URL?
I am redoing a site and the URL's are changing structure. The client's site was in magento and in the store they would get two URLs, for example: /store/categoryname/productname and /store/categoryname/productname?SID=dslkajsfdoiu947598whouieht983hg98 Do I have to 301 redirect both of these URL's to their new counterpart? Both go to the same content but magento seemed to add these SIDs into the navigation and Google has both versions in the index.

Domain Forwarding and SEO
I have looked around and only saw older and contradicting responses to this question but what effect does having a domain with VALUABLE-KEYWORD.com forward to MAINSITE.com or COMMON-MISSPELLING.com forward to MAINSITE.com in terms of SEO and is it considered spammy or looked down upon
