Rank Loss Analysis Tool
-
I did a detailed analysis of the loss in rankings for about 100 pages on my site over the last 6 months.
For few pages the SEO clicks have dropped by 40%.
This is not due to algorithm penalty but one of the following reason
- Competitor with a higher DA created a similar article
- Existing Competitors get more backlinks
- Search volume itself is down - (Don't care)
- Loss in long tail traffic
can you guys recommend a system to automatically track this and make a report? Also what would be corrective action in case of reason 1 and 4
-
Hello Janki99,
While I cannot recommend a system to track those metrics, I will suggest building backlinks to the content that your competitors with higher DA are now beating you at. If they have higher DA, one of the reasons is because of the number and quality of back links. They may even be able to garner more backlinks on the articles they wrote that displaced your ranking. So i would personally start a backlink campaign. First analyze the hanging fruit, then your competitors. Use OSE to find what backlinks to oyur competitors may be valuable to you.
Thanks,
Don Silvernail

Rankings drastically changing
I monitor our positions for a few keywords but they are very unstable. One day they will be at position 1, 2 or 3 and then all of a sudden not even on Google. We use an IP redirect to guide users to the correct site and I suspect this may be a cause. Could anybody shed some light? Thanks

Removing .html from URLs - impact of rankings?
Good evening Mozzers. Couple of questions which I hope you can help with. Here's the first. I am wondering, are we likely to see ranking changes if we remove the .html from the sites URLs. For example website.com/category/sub-category.html Change to: website.com/category/sub-category/ We will of course make sure we 301 redirect to the new, user friendly URLs, but I am wondering if anyone has had previous experience of implementing this change and how it has effected rankings. By having the .html in the URLs, does this stop link juice being flowed back to the root category? Second question: If one page can be loaded with and without a forward slash "/" at the end, is this a duplicate page, or would Google consider this as the same page? Would like to eliminate duplicate content issues if this is the case. For example: website.com/category/ and website.com/category Duplicate content/pages?

Erratic Rankings Earlier This Month - UK
Can anybody tell me what happened here? http://5lx.co.uk/images/searchconsole2015-12-22 13.37.16.png That is the ranking pattern of my UK site on Google UK for my main keyword. It reached number 1 on 7 December but three or four days later, dropped like a stone. It has been very erratic ever since, slumping as low as the mid-30s. I checked the search console but there were no manual penalties. There is an update signalled on the chart but I can't find any info about it and anyway it seems to have happened after the drop began. I barely touched the site between its top ranking and the slump and certainly didn't do anything to deserve that roller coaster (as far as I know). Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Can someone please help me understand my sites recent loss of rankings?
My site has been top 3 for 'speed dating' on Google.co.uk since about 2003 and it went to below top 50 for a lot of it's main keywords shortly after 27 Oct 2012. I did a re-submission request and was told there was 'no manual spam action'. I have a Page Authority of 53, a regular blog http://bit.ly/oKyi88, a KLOUT of 40, user reviews and quality content. I did discover that another URL I using was set to a 302 instead of a 301 for some reason. I don't necessarily think this was an issue as Google should know which is the trusted URL and therefore which content to list. I removed this redirect completely about 3 weeks ago, but I've seen no improvement. I'm looking at improving various things, but I'm still not sure why I've been hit and wonder if I'm missing something obvious? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

How to rank for difficult terms
I am helping launch a new business venture that sells oak furniture in the UK. The key product terms are along the lines of; oak bed
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | pretige12
oak dining table
oak chairs etc which are very popular search terms. Im used to being able to hang of local or branded search which arent available in this project. The domain is around 12 months old, it has few inbound links which we are working on now with an overseas freelancer (keeping an eye on them). The pages of the site are unique-content rich and the titles and other meta boxes are ticked. What else would the experts recommend?0 -
