Moving Shopify from a Sub Domain to the Full Domain
-
Apologies if this has been asked before.
Currently we have a Shopify shop on a subdomain shop.lucybee.com a blog on subdomain blog.lucybee.com and the full domain of course.
We'd now like to move everything onto Shopify on the full domain. Therefore the blog rolls into Shopify.
We'll manually move pages into Shopify.
Any advice or links to resources on how to manage would be gratefully received.
Thank you ,
Jim

Hi Alex,
Apologies for taking so long to reply to your thorough answer (I work one day a week for this client).
This is very useful and clarifies the procedure we have to go through.
I did contact Shopify, it is a great platform and they were quite helpful concerning the apps that the platform uses but not helpful when it came to arranging the redirects.
So, thank you again for your reply, it's going to make a difference to our SEO!

Hi Jim,
The key thing, as I'm sure you're aware, will be to manage all of your redirects! It looks to me that there will be quite a lot of duplicated/similar content from across the three existing domains that you'll want to combine, and then ensure that old pages redirect to the new content; this makes it quite complicated and will require lots of custom redirects rather than a simpler bulk https://blog.lucybee.com/* -> https://lucybee.com/blog/*
Depending upon the new structure for the shop element of your site, you might be able to use wildcard redirects (E.g. https://shop.lucybee.com/collections/* -> https://lucybee.com/products/*) but you'd obviously need to be very careful to make sure they all match up.
I'm not familiar with Shopify, but I would suggest getting in touch with them and explaining what you plan to do. If I were carrying out your project I would want to set up a dev site to make all the content and structure changes, and then prepare my redirects, before then putting the whole thing live.
A crawl of the existing three sites before you start and then a map of your redirects is probably best. You can then bulk check the old URLs once you go live to make sure you haven't missed anything. (https://httpstatus.io/)

Does having a sub-domain on a different server affect SEO?
I'm working with a company that has a hard-coded website on the root domain, and then a WordPress blog on a subdomain on a separate server. We're planning on implementing a hub and spoke model for their content, hosting the main hubs on the root domain and the linked articles on the blog. Is having the blog on a different server going to hinder our SEO efforts?

Moving content to a new domain
I need to move a lot of content with podcasts and show notes to a new domain. Instead of doing redirects, we want to keep some content on the current domain to retain the link value. There are business reason to keep content on both websites but the new website will primarily be used for SEO moving forward. If we keep the audio portion of the podcast on the old website and move the show notes and the audio portion of the podcast to the new website, is there any issues with duplicate content?Long-term, I presume Google will re-index the old and the new pages, thus no duplicate content, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I was planning to fetch pages in Search Console as we migrate content. Thanks for your help!

Domain Structure - without www.
I'm working on a new project and we would prefer to not use the www. - for name/branding reasons. Are there any SEO ramifications from setting the domain without the www and using 301 redirects for all home page extensions to forward to -> domain.com(without the www)? Furthermore, we will be hosting many profiles on this site and would like to structure them for optimal SEO. Would there be an issue with using sub domains - user.domain.com, or would sub directories be more optimal? Thank you in advance!

Blog.domain or domain.com/blog
My client can't do domain.com/blog because he's on wix. I'm thinking blog.domain.com. Do you have any resources for the pros and cons of this? I understand that google looks at them very similarly now, is that true for google +?

Will Links to one Sub-Domain on a Site hurt a different Sub-Domain on the same site by affecting the Quality of the Root Domain?
Hi, I work for a SaaS company which uses two different subdomains on our site. A public for our main site (which we want to rank in SERPs for), and a secure subdomain, which is the portal for our customers to access our services (which we don't want to rank for) . Recently I realized that by using our product, our customers are creating large amounts of low quality links to our secure subdomain and I'm concerned that this might affect our public subdomain by bringing down the overall Authority of our root domain. Is this a legitimate concern? Has anyone ever worked through a similar situation? any help is appreciated!

Preferred domain
In GWT it gives an option to do the following but which is best? and why? If you specify your preferred domain as http://www.example.com and we find a link to http://example.com, we'll consider both links the same. | <label for="no_assoc">Don't set a preferred domain</label> |

Domains
My questions is what to do with old domains we own from a past business. Is it advantages to direct them to the new domain/company or is that going to cause a problem for the new company. They are not in the same industry.

Is Buying Domains Good For SEO? Can I 301 redirect domains to an Original website?
I have a friend that purchased multiple domains related to their website. Each of these domains have the back ground of the original website and irrelevant content on them. Is is possible to redirect the various domains to certain pages on the original website. For example if the website is www.shoes.com and they purchased domains such as www.leathermensshoes.com and a few others related to the website. Is it SEO friendly to link the domains purchased to the original website?
