Page Title Optimisation
-
We have a fairly large client for which I look after the analytics, and just recently the SEO also.
This celebrity client already recieves near a million visitors per month, 96% of the time for her name.
I'm using Googles keyword tool and search trends for insights as to what people are searching for
As I get further and further into optimising different pages, I'm running out of ideas for Unique page titles to drive additinal traffic as they have all been covered. {high volume exact searches that is}
I'm not sure if I'm over using her name also: for example most of the clients pages start with:
"First name last name Keyphrase" should I be using her first name last name on every title?
Thanks in advance for what seems like a simple task, however when your up against it for the first time, it's a "Do I Don't I situation!"
Kind Regards
Sean

Very interesting topic and awesome answers, thanks!

In short, using the client's name in the title (in my opinion), could be completely unnecessary.
It sounds like this site is so highly related to the celebrities name as it is, that this "premium retail space" could be better utilized to capture longtail keywords.
Just my quick two cents

Hi Gianluca,
Your cheeky. I could tell you who she is, but I'm afraid i'd have to kill you :¬)
You can have a look at our website Gian, and work it out from there: http://www.greatfridays.com
Take care
Thanks for the advice though.

I agree with Richard, take the content from the page. I don't think its just about using or not using the name, its about creating a descriptive content for that page, if the title fits better with the name on it, it should be there, also I would not remove the name from "Daniel Radcliffe organic clothing", if it is a famous person, that's how people will look for it.

If her name is her brand... therefore use it for branded searches. For instance: "her" movies, "her" songs, "her" humanitarian activity...
that way you can also work on an aspect she is surely very paying attention to: reputation.
Anyway... give us tips about who's her?

Thanks again Richard, great help mate

Thanks. Great to know it was helpful.

If the site is authoritative and you are already exhausted your bank of keywords, then just pull the main topic off the page and fill with that.
The problem seems to be that you already rank for the keywords that are important, so other could just draw poor traffic. Such as using the directors name or other actors. This could draw traffic, but poor traffic.
In short, you are simply trying to fill titles without duplication and you already have exhausted your keyword list on other pages? Then use page topics as keywords.

Hi Richard,
She is quite a big film start, but she has done modelling too. I've covered all these really Richard, as she does so much.
I'm going down the Non client name for a few pages now , just to see if we can pick up some broader terms. The site has great authority, but I'm presuming that to get these broader terms to rank we are going to need some exact match back-links pointing at the page?
Thanks Richard

Hi again Sean,
You can work on some longtail keywords. Try some social keywords like actress, or model, or something along those lines. There are always related words to what people do, or their industry. Pick a main theme of the page and work from there.
Is there a page in which you are having more trouble in than not?
I do not think you are overusing the name as the site is all about this client correct?
What industry is this for?
-
Hi Sameer, He does have a forum, and I think your spot on with leaving the name out. For me Sameer I included the name as I wanted each page to be relevant, but I see your point. So instead of Daniel Radcliffe organic clothing range" I could just put " Organic Clothing" Thanks for your time again Sameer Kind Regards Sean

Sean,
Is there a blog or forum or any form of UGC system in place? The title issue can be resolved by adding a forum/blog since all the titles for each new page will now be the QA text or blog titles with unique content.
I don't think excessive usage of full name + text in title is a good practice because it does not look natural. Google is smart enough to show pages on the website as long as the domain name or the site content shows a match or correlation to the celebrity name.
You could also create new pages related to the industry, lifestyle, hobbies, favorites, and many other aspect of celebrities life and each could have titles with or without his/her name depending on the keyword you are trying to target.
Thanks
Sameer

Question about brand name in title
I know this has been covered a million times but I cannot find one related to mine as far as brand goes. We have a 3 word company name (brand) and all three words are excellent keywords. We rank decent in google and other search engines, but I did not know if I should put our brand all together, or keep them spaced since I am using the keywords in the title in other places. Our company name is ex. A B C Title page is as follows and I am showing where our company name appears in the title for our pages. I am just not wanting to stuff the keywords in the title, although it is hard not to with our brand. I do not want to give out our company name. Below I am showing where part of our name appears in the title of pages. The (C) in the first part of the title is singular. Our name and brand for C is plural. I hope you understand. After 10 years in business we are redoing some things to make it even better. Moz Pro has been wonderful tool for us, the last 40 days. Main Keyword B C | Secondary Keyword | A B C Should it be Main Keyword B C | Secondary Keyword | ABC Thank you all!

Remove poor performing pages, or leave for google?
Hi - we have a few old pages on our site which were created for SEO purposes a long time ago. They are pretty poor pages and we are rewriting them. However some are no longer relevant. We score "F" on those pages and I imagine google won't like them. Should we delete the page and redirect nicely to the home page, or leave the page there, but remove it from our site? What is best practice for removing old content? Many thanks

Content on Category(esque) Pages
Hey all, Just a quick question related to content on classifieds sites. If I were to add a small amount of content (say 2 or 3 sentences) that were totally unique to all car brand and model pages and contained anchor text pointing to internal pages... Would that have a positive effect? Or would it be a wasted effort? Thanks a lot in advance 😄

For an e-commerce page with more than 2,000 products, how should I conduct my initial keyword research?
Hi all, A confused and frustrated SEO noob needing a little guidance here 😞 I'm a bit lost on how I should conduct my keyword research for a start-up e-commerce site selling dietary supplements (~200 brands and ~2000 SKU's). From my understanding, there are two different types of pages I have to optimize for other than the Homepage & CMS pages: Category pages and product pages. As part of the fundamental on-page optimization, I'm planning to write unique category/product descriptions for better visibility (as well as to avoid duplicate content issues) on SE. Consequently, this process has prompted several questions related to my keyword research. My questions are: How would I determine which keywords to optimize for? How many keywords should I target per product page? per category page? Should I include product / brand name as keywords? The site isn't live yet, but is set to launch in mid-August. Any ideas on how I can conduct my keyword research to be used for category/product level pages? Thanks all.

Can I get your input on keyword usage in the title tag
Hello fellow mozzers! I've been struggling with my title tag and would like to get your opinion. We provide IT services in the Los Angeles area. I've been doing keyword research for the past week and found about 400 keywords from various sources. I then looked at my top 5 competitors on Google and analyzed their homepage title tags, the most common keywords that they use in their title tags are: IT Support Los Angeles

Computer Support Los Angeles
Network Consulting Los Angeles
Network Support Los Angeles
IT Services Los Angeles Since it is recommended to have your title tag under 70 characters I've compiled the following title tag for my home page: IT Services, Network Consulting, IT and Network Support in Los Angeles which is exactly 70 characters, however my company name is an additional 9 characters, I think it would be wise to include in the title tag of the home page however I can't decide if I should exceed the limit by including the company name to the title tag or should I remove something from the title tag and then add the company name? 1. What do you guys think, is that a good title tag to use as is? 2. Should I add the company name without removing any keywords or remove a keyword? 3. I'm trying to target local traffic since I can't compete with the big dogs yet, so I want to be in the SERPs when someone searches IT Services Los Angeles, IT Support Los Angeles, etc... Do I need to add Los Angeles after each keyword, or I can use a single instance of Los Angeles like in the example title tag that I have? 4. For the other remaining 400+/- keywords I want to use some of them to create static pages and some for blog posts, is that the way to go? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!!!0 -
Image Description & Image Title
Our site allows us to update via WYSIWYG editor. When adding photos to our pages it gives us the option to add (Image Description) & (Image Title). When optimizing a single page how should we properly be filling these in? Should Image title be keyword we are trying to rank for? If so, should we be following proper keyword density ratio to avoid keyword stuffing? Thank you

Should i change title tags?
I want to change all of the title tags on my website by adding a couple of more keywords (not keyword stuffing) but our previous media company chose words that were not aas relevant as ones I found. However I was warned this is a bad idea, it will make traffic drop and if it works we will only see about 5% increase to pages. Please advise. Should I change them and hwo should I do it? One by one slowly while changing content to match or all at once?
