I've just started managing a site that serves over 50 different countries and the entire web enterprise is being flagged for duplicate content because there is so much of it. What's the best approach to stop this duplicate content, yet serve all of the countries we need to?

It may be a bit of an effort but is it possible that you can work your way through the pages and make the content, titles and descrptions unique so that they don't get flagged as duplicate content.
This has the added advantage of having a large number of pages targeted at your various keyphrases whereas other apporaches involving 301 redirects or rel="nofollow" reduce the duplicate content issue but also reduce the number of pages on which to target keyphrases across all of these pages. If they are acorss 50 countries is there a local spin that can be put on the content so that all the relevant terms are targeted for in their regions but so that Google doesn't see 50+ versions of the same site.

Yes the content is on different servers due to the different countries they serve as well as the languages. The client's US site is what I am working to improve and they currently have over 2,500 Duplicate title tags and Meta-Descriptions out there. Would modifying the robots.txt file to instruct the SE's to simply crawl the one main site and ignore the others be the best solution? My train of thought is going back to a previous case I had with a previous company where their product list pages were seen as duplicate pages due to the fact that each of the "sort" parameters were being recognized as duplicates by the SE's. We had to write an instruction to only crawl the first sorted results.

Hi Ken,
Is the content actually exactly the same but running on different domains? That will determine how to approach this issue. If all the the content is the same you can either utilize 301 redirects or rel=canonical tags to help the engines view the multiple sites as a single site and combine any link juice that's associated with each of the 50 sites. If the content isn't actually duplicitous then it or the page titles are extremely similar. In the long run I would recommend localizing your content so as to not only help from an SEO perspective but to also improve the user experience and hopefully the conversion rates as well.

To my understanding in many Asian languages city names are transcribed as they sound and this can cause confusion especially in the case of lesser known American city names. So I was planning to put in our international website versions (Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc. ) the English name in brackets after the translated city name in meta title and H1.

Ranking in Different Countries - Ecommerce site
My client has a .com ecommere site with UK-based serves and he wants to target two other countries (both English speaking). By the looks of it, he wouldn't want to create separate local TLDs targeting each country, I therefore wanted to suggest adding subdomains / subfolders geo-targeted to each country that they want to target, however, I'm worried that this will cause duplicate content issues... What do you think would be the best solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

3 month old site lost almost complete traffic overnight
Hi All, I started a Indian coupon and deal site http://www.couponspy.in/ around 3 month ago and traffic increased almost daily. But yesterday my site lost almost all of its traffic. Keywords which ranked 1-5 lost around 4-15 places and keywords which ranked 6-20 lost ca. 20-50 places. The Moz Crawl Diagnostics doesn't indicate any mayor issues. Has there been a Google Panda update in India? Reasons why my site has been affected? Please help!!!! 😉 I have seen the same traffic decrease on other coupon start ups, eg https://www.cuponation.in/ and https://www.cuponation.in/ Did we all make the same mistake? Any guesses?

Interlinking 60 ccTLD country versions of website
We will be launching 60 new ccTLD country versions of an established core website.

We have a CSS dropdown menu with the 60 country flags and country/language name as anchor text. Formatted as deeplinks to the corresponding pages in the 60 country versions, that we planned to add on each page. How would you recommend to implement the interlinking between these 60 ccTLD? My concerns are: won't we dillute the link value of our links in the main page content too much with links to 60ccTLD on each page? may we trigger a google penalty as the new ccTLD have no other links yet and each page will have the same anchor text and links from exactly the same 60 domains. would you place the country dropdown rather at the bottom of the page (e.g. footer) to avoid that google will not crawl all links in main content page. Impact of Japanese .jp site duplicate content?
Our main website is at http://www.traxnyc.com and we just launched a Japanese version of the site at http://www.traxnyc.jp domain. However all the images used on the .jp site are linked from the .com site. Would this hurt me in Google at all for hotlinking images? Also there is quite a bit of duplicate content on the .jp site at the moment: only a few things have been translated to Japanese and for the most part the layouts and words are exactly the same (in English). Would this hurt my Google rankings in the US at all? Thanks for all your help.

Multinational Sites - The main SEO issues
I currently work for the UK arm of a Company with headquarters in Germany - The have outlets in half-a-dozen European countries, and up until now each country has had it's own website. The group has decided that from next year they will close all the individual country sites and then run new sites each from a central .location, I guess with a shared database of products. I see the sense in having central stock control etc, but I'm worried about the SEO impact. I have searched Q&A and the blog but could not find much to help me. What I would like to do is to provide some advice and pointers at to what they should be aiming for, both in terms website structure and on-going SEO for each country. Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.
