Why do people rarely give each other Thumbs Up?

I just don't understand. If a question or an answer is decent, I give people a thumbs up. I don't think I've really seen anyone else give a thumbs up. Why not?

Honestly, I think a lot of people probably read, but just don't take the time to hit the thumbs up button because they don't know what the point is, or don't care.

I give a thumbs up when someone answers a question in a very accurate and understandable way. Also I tend to thumb up something that really makes me stand back and think - or just makes me laugh

As someone who has just spent three hours today going through the public Q&A entries (I'm an SEOmoz associate), I have seen responses with multiple thumbs. I think the most I've seen (or noticed) is 3-4 thumbs, but I do see two thumbs quite often. The Public Q&A is fairly new, and the most recent two weeks are restricted to pro members (I don't know if free members can add thumbs after two weeks, or just view the answers), so it may be just a lack of people so far. I do thank you for your thumb usage and participation!

How do I get into the People Also Ask section?
Hello there, My client is not appearing in the People Also Ask section on Google for their brand name and I'm not sure why. Can anyone help or explain how you get featured into these snippets? What's weird is when you google their brand name, the People Also Ask section comes up, but they only appear in one question. The other three are from their competitors which is obviously annoying for them. Do you know how to get into the People Also Ask bit? Do I have to markup the page or is it simply based on popular questions and the best answers?

What are risks people are seeing with Widget links?
This September, Matt Cutts announced a new crackdown on widget links. But they clearly still work so it's a matter of scale and usage in IMO. Years ago I started recommending changing links within widgets to use branded anchor text instead of keyword rich anchor text so as not to create an unusual amount of keyword focused anchor text. It's also clearly more natural. So far this has been working very well. The new warning is concerning and I recognize the "best practice" according to Google would be to no-follow these links, but I'm not quite ready to do this unless a risk of unrecoverable penalty is apparent. My thoughts are it's a matter of scale. If there are tens of thousands of widget links and they dominate the link profile that would be a serious matter. If there are only thousands of widget links and they are a small part of the total link profile it is much less of a concern. Does anyone have any direct experience with getting warnings on this matter?

Blogpost Authorship. Should we give credits or not?
We have been paying for getting the content written from writers. Is it a good move to give authorship to writers for writing the articles in terms of SEO. Some writers now have started to demand for authorship from the articles they have written. Should I give them authorship credits from each & every blog post they have written or it will be just a bad move to do so?

Shall I use a 301 or 302 redirect when people leave the company?
Hello, At my company, we have instances where client-facing people leave the company and so we need to remove their profile page from the website. As opposed to people receiving a 404 when they search for them, I thought it would be best to divert visitors to a generic landing page to explain that the person they are looking for has left the company with details on how to get in touch. I'm tempted to use a 302 redirect so the person they are searching for stays in the search results longer. But longer-term, will this cause any harm? Should it be eventually be turned into a 301 redirect? Or should I just use a 301 in the first instance. Thanks in advance, Stu

Impressions Fell off a Cliff, No Manual Action, What Gives?
Hi Moz crew, We've got a bit of a riddle on our hands here at Flightpath. You see, we're an agency that specializes in digital services like web design, social media and SEO. Unfortunately, we seem to have been hit by an a algorithmic penalty on February 28th, 2014. This is a first for us - we've never had to deal with a penalty (manual or algorithmic) for our site or any of our client sites. Here's the situation: We were averaging around 1,500 impressions per day before the drop. Since 2/28, we see closer to 250 impressions per day. No manual action notice in WMT Branded keywords did not lose rank. It was primarily our the service-oriented keywords that we lost rank on (ex: "digital agency", "digital agency nyc", "social media agency nyc", "web agency new york" - we were page 1 for all of these, though "digital agency" wasn't as secure as the others). Backlink profile looks ok. We did a clean-up (disavowed a few hundred domains) as soon as we noticed the drop, but there wasn't anything in there egregiously offensive. There definitely wasn't anything NEW that was problematic. Not a lot of non-branded anchor text at all. No major changes to the site in 2014 Any ideas? WMT Screenshot: http://imgur.com/V1fI1MQ During our brief recovery, we did lose a small amount of rank (just a few positions, only for a handful of keywords) compared to where we were pre-crisis. That makes sense though, we were pretty ruthless in disavowing domains and almost surely caught a few "positive" links along with the bad ones. Aside from that, it appeared to be a full recovery - every single one of our generic keywords was back for just over 48 hours. Any ideas? Was Google rolling out a new algorithm tweak, only to pull it back due to bugs? Or was it the opposite: Google rolling back the update that hurt our site to fix a few bugs before pushing it live again?

Huge Google Dance For Some Rankings. What Gives?
I've got a relatively new website (launched at the beginning of June 2013). For some keywords I'm targeting, it first ranked around page 15. It made huge jumps to finally rank on page 2 or 3. Since then, it goes back to page 15 and then back to page 3. It does this every now and then. Any ideas?

Do EMD's give the boost everyone says they do?
Hi, I have used a few myself and if I was targeting UK search with a [emd] .co.uk, every time the domain has hit page 1 with little effort. I have done this maybe 4-5 times, my moz stats show 0 but I rank above results on page 1 with moz stats of DA:45+. Can I now say basically any EMD I buy will rocket through the serp's?
