Removing GWT Geo-Targeting
-
Hi, if I have a website in Google Webmaster Tools > Geographic Target set to United States, but I want to promote it in other specific countries,
1. Do I have to change the geo-targeting in GWT so it does not target a specific country? (discarding the option of adding sub-domain to GWT)
2. If I remove the GWT geo-targeting would it affect my rankings in the US?
Thank you

Hi Kevin, after reading the post and watching the video I am very clear on what I should do next, I didn't even knew that GWT allows you to add sub-directories. thank you very much!

Your settings in Google supplements existing information, so setting a geographic target won't impact your appearance in search results unless a user limits the scope of the search to a certain country. Do you have a top level domain or a country specific domain? That will also single to Google where to list your site in search results. Lots of info at http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=62399 Hope this helps!

Geographical targeting with Magento
We have a Magento store, with multiple stores/domains setup. There is only really one reason that we have the multiple domains; we use an automatic GEOIP store switcher to send a customer to the right store, so that they pay the proper shipping, see the proper pricing etc, and a couple small differences in the design templates. But all the content is identical. So we have: domain.com (main website)

domain.ca (where most other countries are directed to based on GEOIP)
domain.eu Since the content is the same, what is the best strategy here? I looked at several options: 1. Custom canonical urls, making each page on the .ca and .eu use canonical url of the .com
2. Completely block the .ca and .eu from robots.
3. Leave it the way it is0 -
Manual Action - When requesting links be removed, how important to Google is the address you're sending the requests from?
We're starting a campaign to get rid of a bunch of links, and then submitting a disavow report to Google, to get rid of a manual action. My SEO vendor said he needs an @email domain from the website in question @travelexinsurance.com, to send and receive emails from vendors. He said Google won't consider the correspondence to and from webmasters if sent from a domain that is not the one with the manual action penalty. Due to company/compliance rules, I can't allow a vendor not in our building to have an email address like that. I've seen other people mention they just used a GMAIL.com account. Or we could use a similar domain such as @travelexinsurancefyi.com. My question, how critical is it that the domain the correspondence with the webmasters be from the exact website domain?

GWT Images Indexing
Hi guys! How does normally take to get Google to index the images within the sitemap? I recently submitted a new, up to date sitemap and most of the pages have been indexed already, but no images have. Any reason for that? Cheers

HELP! Google Business listing removed - check out my SERP free fall!
Hey Moz Community, I need your help. I have (had) a google local business listing. I made some changes last week to clean it up. Now it's gone and I've had a massive fall in my rankings (see images). Changes I made: I changed the business name from a spammy name: BYOL Graphic Design & Web Design Courses. TO: **Bring Your Own Laptop PTY LTD. ** I added Local business schema to my website. I added my telephone, address etc. Previously it was all an image. I tinkered with a few other things while I was there too but I can't remember them all. Other notes: Initially I blamed the dramatic drop on Hummingbird but after doing some research I'm not so sure. I think it's because I was messing around with Google Local. My listing is/was here: https://plus.google.com/111689574762050943425 (though it doesn't work any more). My website is www.bringyourownlaptop.com.au Questions: Do you think the loss of my Google local listing could be the cause of such a big drop? If it is my Google local listing - Is there a way to find out what I did wrong? Is there a place to ask for it to be re-checked? Is it better to just start again with a new listing? Do you think it's tied together with a Hummingbird change some how? What else can I check? What would you do? Thanks for your time. Dan

Keyword Targeting with Dynamic Pages
We have a large e-commerce website made with .net. so all of our category and item pages are made dynamic. Most things like title, some of the words and a few other things are done with scripts. I want to be able to target certain words and have more customized words on certain pages. Has anyone dealt with this? I know .net is pretty common so I can't be a unique case.

Duplicate content on the one domain (related to country targetting)
Hi - We have a client who has a TLD that they wish to target several markets using .com/au .com/us .com/sg Each will use duplicate content with slight variations to cater for the local market (spelling, industry jargon). They seem reluctant to register a TLD for each target market (which was our suggestion) and I am wondering what SEO penalties would apply for having a majority of duplicate content on the same domain – perhaps using subdomains would be better? Thanks!
