I consult in the dental industry. Many professionals in this industry are operating in the dark ages when it comes to marketing.
Any ideas about using research tools data to create client interest in dedicating marketing spend on SEO services vs their other current antiquated marketing methods?
I am approaching potential clients to pitch SEO. They aren't necessarily seeking SEO services currently but have a strong marketing budget. I would like to use seomoz tools data about their site and competitors as way to show possibilities/potential of SEO services to gain interest in further discussion of SEO benefits.

Thanks for the help and insight Stephen!

Thanks for the insight. Great point about not putting in too much initial work. Many of these clients that I am speaking of have large budgets but are sending all the spend to yellow pages and mailers but lack any insight to the benefits and return of proper online marketing and conversion.

dentistry is a tough area, and actually making them money will require more than just seo (web dev, converison optimisation etc) so be careful what you sell.
However i find a spreadsheet with keywords against search volume, current position, volume at various rankings mapped back to $ terms per position is a good way to go

You need to have a real knack for direct sales if you want to pursue it. However if you do, in my experience with direct sales, the person who is empowered with having researched the prospect's company and competitive market will be more successful than the person who just uses generic sales tactics.
The trick is to know how much you're willing to do up front without having done any pre-qualification of prospects. Two or three key metrics is probably all that makes sense at that point, with the offer to provide more if there's real interest in going to the next level.

Where is the link prospecting tool?
I feel like last year when Moz was still SEOMoz I used a beta tool that would help you build a bunch of queries for link prospecting. You would tell it what your sites about and a few other pieces of information, and it would give you a list of google queries to get you started (ie inurl:directory <industryname> +"add site"</industryname>). However, I'm having a hard time finding this tool, or any reference to it on the web. It's also possible that it wasn't a moz tool but I'm misremembering where I found it. Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Keyword Difficulty Tool Ranking
I'm using the keyword difficultly tool to help me create a a list of 5 keywords (out of approx 50-60) to optimise pages for on a site. However I don't want to just choose the top 5 if 3 of them are too competitive and not worth targeting. From anyone's experience, for a small, new web company who has no pages optimised at this point, do you think there is a keyword difficulty score that I should create a hard limit on? So for instance, with a group of keywords, to only target keywords that have a difficulty score of 60 or below because anything higher would be too difficult to optimise the pages for in this stage of the sites development. Thanks in advance for your help Michelle 🙂

Could SEOMOZ make a tool thats connected directly to Webmaster Tools?
Could SEOMOZ make a tool that Crawls Internal Links that's connected (or crawls) directly from Webmaster Tools? (So link metrics on our domains would get updates more often) This would eliminate the cost of crawling the entire internet. I hate having to wait a month to see updates on my domain metrics and links. I would like to see updates regularly on my own domain. I understand you can just look at Webmaster tools to see your latest links but they don't have any link metrics. So it’s difficult to see your best links. If this already exists please refer me? Otherwise please show your support for this being developed?

Using the PA metric from the mozbar
Hey guys, just a quick question about page authority. Often I'll be on a page with a high domain authority but the page authority is 0 as it says there are 0 links from 0 domains to the page. This is despite the fact there is a followed link from the homepage to that page. Is this just a bug in PA, and can I assume that the page will have at least some authoirty as a link from the homepage is pointed to it? Or is there some other factor that may be preventing the page to not have any PA. Thanks

Any tools for scraping blogroll URLs from sites?
This question is entirely in the whitehat realm... Let's say you've encountered a great blog - with a strong blogroll of 40 sites. The 40-site blogroll is interesting to you for any number of reasons, from link building targets to simply subscribing in your feedreader. Right now, it's tedious to extract the URLs from the site. There are some "save all links" tools, but they are also messy. Are there any good tools that will a) allow you to grab the blogroll (only) of any site into a list of URLs (yeah, ok, it might not be perfect since some sites call it "sites I like" etc.) b) same, but export as OPML so you can subscribe. Thanks! Scott
