Anyone tested Open Site Explorer backlink numbers ?
-
Hi,
I am new here and I have noticed that open site explorer reports about half of the links on my page.
I am really interested in knowing your perspective on this.
cheers,
Vishal

OSE is based upon the Linkscape crawl of the web. Linkscape is designed to crawl the top 25% of web pages based on their importance (i.e. links). The crawl process takes 2-3 weeks, and then it takes 1-2 weeks to process the data. About once per month the Linkscape data is updated.
The first reason your links may not appear is it can take up to two crawls for a link to be seen. Depending on when the link was added, it can take 2 months to be visible in OSE. The Linkscape update schedule can be seen here: http://apiwiki.seomoz.org/w/page/25141119/Linkscape%20Schedule
The other reason a link would not be seen is if it is on a page with low PA. A page with low PA wont pass any real link value so it is not included in the link profile.

Suite Numbers and Schema
A potentially stupid question. Is the suite number included within the tag, or should it sit outside of it? The reason I ask is because (a) I've seen it where the suite number sits outside that tag and (b) Google My Business best practices, I've been told (by Google support), is to include the suite in the second address line. I'm wondering if that translates in some way to the local schema on your site. On the other hand, it makes sense to include your suite number within the streetAddress span tag, but sometimes what makes sense doesn't really make sense when you know more, so I'm just covering my bases. Thank you!

New site - http or https?
Hi. We are currently in the process of creating a new website. We will be using our old domain name. However, the current website is currently live on both http and https protocols, with no re-directs in place. When we launch the new website, we would like to redirect everything to one or the other. Would the preference be to use https as the preferred protocol?

Keyword targeting by page, site, or both?
Hi, We recently discovered that a product we sell has a misnomer, and that a ton of people take to Google and use variations of that misnomer while trying to find us. Unfortunately we don't rank in Google for this keyword, and its costing us thousands in lost sales. I've been slowly building the misnomer into the content of our site in hopes that the spiders will pick up on it. It has started to work in the last couple weeks, but we're nowhere near the top (and we are #1 and #2 for most of our other prime keywords.) The site which sells the product is specialized, and only sells this specific product (in different models, but they're all the same product essentially.) With that in mind, I'm trying to figure out the best way to attack a new keyword. I know that normally you would dedicate a specific page (in an eCommerce store probably that product's own page) to employ your SEO tactics. However, because this site specializes in this product and offers different models and information about it I'm confused about the best approach. Does Google take into consideration the entire site a s whole, or are the pages within my site competing against each other for rank?

Google Custom Site Search
I am an admin on a google custom site search account. I am also the owner of a verified webmaster tools account for the same site. The Custom Search control panel will not let me add URL's or a Site map for on demand indexing, but says "you must submit a sitemap of your own verified sites". Has anyone else has this issue? Does the Owner of the custom search account have to be the owner of the webmaster account, or can the logged in admin be? Thanks
