Are there any disadvantages of switching from xml sitemaps to .asp sitemaps in GWT
-
I have been using multiple xml sitemaps for products for over 6 months and they are indexing well with GMT.
I have been having this manually amended when a product becomes obsolete or we no longer stock it.
I now have the option to automate the sitemaps from a SQL feed but using .asp sitemaps that I would submit the same way in GWT.
I'd like your thoughts on the Pro's and cons of this, pluses for me is realtime updates, con's I percieve GMT to prefer xml files.
what do you think?

Automation of this has been problomatic because of the way our CMS paginates URL's, It was sending xml generators crazy.
looks like I am still going to have to have some involvement with this on an ongoing basis.
Thanks for mentioning BING..

Sitemaps are a relatively simple process and there are many tools which offer the ability to automate XML sitemaps. Why do you feel limited to using asp for automation?
I am 99% sure Google would work with any format of sitemap just fine. They worked to create the sitemap.org standard with Bing and Yahoo, which is an XML standard. Even if Google accepted your ASP sitemap I am not sure Bing would, so I would recommend XML.
I was surprised to not find any solid confirmation that Google accepts ASP sitemaps. The closest I could find is they accept sitemaps in "many formats" but recommend XML: https://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=183668&ctx=cb&src=cb&cbid=-1e1qm3yl3gxen&cbrank=1

301's - Do we keep the old sitemap to assist google with this ?
Hello Mozzers, We have restructured our site and have done many 301 redirects to our new url structure. I have seen one of my competitors have done similar but they have kept the old sitemap to assist google I guess with their 301's as well. At present we only have our new site map active but am I missing a trick by not have the old one there as well to assist google with 301's. thanks Pete

How to switch brand domain and address previous use of domain
We recently acquired a new domain to replace existing as it better fits our brand. We have little/no organic value on existing domain so switching is not an issue. However the newly acquired domain was previously used in a different industry and has inbound links with significant spam scores. How can we let Google know that these links are not valid for our business and start rebuilding reputation of the domain? Disavow tool?

GWT, Editing URL Parameters for Ecommerce Features
I have had the setting of "let googlebot decide" on managing my URL parameters on an Ecommerce site in Magento. The products I sell come in different sizes and colors and finishes etc. These parameters are showing up in Google Webmaster Tools and set for "let googlebot decide". Some of them have as many as 8 million urls monitored. I changed the editing option to clam these parameters as "narrow searches", but still left the option to "let googlebot decide" (versus block urls). Will blocking these erroneous urls serve any benefit? Does blocking these help with the crawl/seo?

Domain Name Switch Considering Special Circumstances
Thank you kindly for taking the time to read this. The company I work with is a wedding chapel in Las Vegas. They've had the same domain since about 2001. Their organic placement has been stellar since about 2008. With the most recent Panda update some results did slip, but they are still strong & I feel that the SEPRs that slipped will be back up shortly (hopefully!) The company recently bought the url www.VegasWeddings.com which happens to be a generic key phrase, BUT ALSO IS THE NAME OF THE BUSINESS. They want to switch, but I am in a bit of a conundrum of this. It seems really risky, but also makes a lot of sense. Help? Insight? Anything? Thank you dearly!!!

Why extreme drop in number of pages indexed via GWMT sitemaps?
Any tips on why our GWMT Sitemaps indexed pages dropped to 27% of total submitted entries (2290 pages submitted, 622 indexed)? Already checked the obvious Test Sitemap, valid URLs etc. We had typically been at 95% of submitted getting indexed.

Should sitemap include https pages?
Hi guys, Trying to figure out some onsite issues I've been having. Would appreciate any feedback on the following 2 questions: My homepage (http://mysite.com) is a 301 redirect to https://mysite.com, which is under SSL. Only 2 pages of my site are https, the rest are http. Should the directory of my sitemap be https://mysite.com/sitemap.xml or should it be kept with http (even though the redirected homepage is to https)? Should my sitemap include the https pages (only 2 pages) as well as the http? Thanks, G

Impact of SSL - switching from http: to https: on organic rankings?
Hello, just paranoid, but thought i'd ask. We are installing an SSL certificate on a site ranking very well organically in all the engines. This will change our site from http:// to https://. Is there an risk to our rankings in doing so? What might I need to consider? Changing my htaccess redirects to https: instead of http;? Any ripple effects from switching to a secure site? Thanks,
